Louis van Gaal has confirmed David de Gea will not start Manchester United's Premier League opener against Tottenham due to the distraction of his potential transfer to Real Madrid.

De Gea has continually been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu throughout the transfer window, and Van Gaal revealed on Friday that he does not think the Spain goalkeeper is in the correct frame of mind to play at Old Trafford on Saturday.

TRAGIC! Nigerian man allegedly pound his own mother to death in Texas

Hauwa Esther Kadima, 61, a Mother of four and who also was an accomplished professor of languages, and a published author, was bludgeoned (beat with a stick with heavy end) to death at her home in Longview, Texas, on July 28th. Her last child, 31 year old Daniel Kadima (left) has been arrested in connection with her death.

Police was called to her home on July 28th and found her beaten to death - a bloody chair was lying next to her body. Police believe it was the murder weapon. She had fractures to her skull with laceration of the brain because of blunt impact to the head, according to autopsy findings. Daniel, who had called police to report a person lying dead in the apartment, was arrested the next day.

British actor George Cole is dead

British actor George Cole has died at the age of 90, his rep has confirmed.

The much-loved star, who was best known for his role as Arthur Daley in Minder, is thought to have been battling a long-term illness.

Cole's career spanned more than 70 years after landing a role in a touring musical at the age of 15, but is most recognised for playing Daley in the long-running series.

Officials say a drone dropped a package of drugs into an Ohio prison yard while inmates were outside, sparking a fight - according to Huffington Post.

The package was dropped July 29 at the Mansfield Correctional Institution, in Ohio. A spokeswoman for the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction says it contained almost a quarter of an ounce of heroin, over 2 ounces of marijuana and more than 5 ounces of tobacco.

Malaysia confirms plane debris washed up on Reunion Island is from Flight MH370

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak confirmed that the wreckage found on Reunion Island last week belongs to the Malaysia Airlines plane that went missing with 239 passengers and crew on board in March, 2014.

"The international team of experts have conclusively confirmed that the aircraft debris found on Reunion Island is indeed from MH370," he said in a televised statement

Lagos State Government releases N11bn to pay pensioners

The Lagos State Government has released N11bn to pay off pension liabilities in arrears in the state since 2010 to date.

The Head of Service, Mrs. Folashade Jaji, on Wednesday in Alausa, Ikeja, said the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, had directed that the sum should be used to pay the pension liabilities of the Lagos State Government mainstream retirees and the retirees in local governments areas.

Lecturer rapes 18- year-old female seeking admission in UNILAG

A part-time lecturer at the University of Lagos, Akoka, Afeez Baruwa, has been arrested by the police in Lagos for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl, identified as Caroline (not her real name).

It was learnt that the victim, who was reportedly raped inside a study room, was seeking admission into the University.

Baruwa who was arrested by the Surulere Police Division on Monday, August 3 told the police in his statement that the sexual intercourse was by mutual consent, insisting that he did not rape the victim. 

Caroline got to know the lecturer through her Dad because they both belonged to the same landlords’ association in the Abesan, Ipaja area. 

NEMA warns Nigerians to prepare for drought all over the Country

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) yesterday advised Nigerians to prepare for possible drought all over the country.

NEMA’s warning followed the prediction of heavy rainfall by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET). The North West coordinator of NEMA, Musa Illalah, gave the advice in Kaduna during a workshop on liquid and solid waste management in the context of flood mitigation.

Represented by the director, Administration of the agency, Amina Ahman, Illalah said the implication of the NIMET alert was because there may be excessive rainfall hence, states in the North ought to anticipate drought.

Boko Haram gun down Nine Nigerian fishermen by Lake Chad

Boko Haram Islamists shot dead nine fishermen in a village near the shores of Lake Chad in northeastern Nigeria according to a leading fisherman who survive the attack.

According to report obtain by AFP, the men were heading towards the fishing town of Baga on Tuesday when they were stopped by the militants, dragged out of their van and gunned down, said Abubakar Gamandi, head of the fishermen's union in Borno State.

Senate Summons CBN Governor Over Depreciating Naira

The Senate has summoned the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, to explain the depreciation of the Naira and its implications for the Nigerian economy.

Federal lawmakers expressed concern that the Naira had depreciated in the last few months at a much faster rate than it had appreciated over the last two years.

The federal lawmaker, who moved the motion raised an alarm that the illicit fund flows and money laundering going through the Nigerian financial system is contributing to weakening the value of the Naira.

President Buhari Fires All NNPC Group Executive Directors (SEE FULL LIST)

President Buhari has sacked the Group Executive Directors (GEDs) of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation according to report.

The Miss Bum Bum Brazil 2015 saw women flock to Sao Paulo to take part in an annual pageant which judges them on their behinds.

Fashion designer excretes 44 wraps of cocaine (PHOTO)

Okechukwu Kingsley Ajaero a 29-year-old fashion designer,  has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over allegations of unlawful importation and possession of 44 wraps of substances that tested positive for cocaine weighing 850grammes.

According to a statement by NDLEA, Okechukwu who hails from Abia state was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos during the inward screening of passengers on a Qatar Airline flight arriving from Sao Paulo.
