I have no Twitter account and I wasn't deported - Chief James Ibori

Chief James Onanefe Ibori wishes to inform the general public that he has no Twitter Account at all. In a press statement signed by Chief Ibori’s Media Assistant, Tony Eluemunor, the former Governor of Delta State explained that reports reached him Sunday afternoon that a Twitter handle in his name (@ChiefIbori), with his picture too, has been trending on the internet.

His media office immediately reached out to some journalists such as to warn Nigerians not to fall victim to the fraudster who created that Twitter Account for whatever reason. We can only suspect that a confidence trickster must have created that account to lure incredulous Nigerians into a 419 trap. 

Lagos State plans to remove Yellow Buses (Danfo) from Lagos roads


Today, Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode revealed that plans are in motion to remove yellow buses popularly known as Danfo from Lagos roads for a more efficient, well-structured and world class mass transportation system that would facilitate ease of movement within the city.

Speaking at the 14th Annual Lecture of the Centre for Values in Leadership (CVL) held at Muson Centre in Onikan with the theme: “Living Well Together, Tomorrow: The Challenge Of Africa’s Future Cities,” Governor Ambode admitted that the present connectivity mode in Lagos was not acceptable and befitting for a mega city, and as such a well-structured transportation mode would soon be put in place to address the challenge.

Antonio Conte admits showdown with Diego Costa

The Suspects Zakari Isa, Nura Garba, Muhammad was Ibrahim, Ibrahim Rabiu and one Babawo now at large were arrested by EFCC operatives in Bauchi and Jos following a petition by one Alhaji Umaru Sabo of Pantami quarters, Gombe.

Libyan coastguards rescue over 1000 African migrants including women and children (Photos)


The spokesman for the Libyan Navy, Ayoub Qasim, said the Libyan coastguards rescued more than 1200 illegal immigrants off Sabratha shores in a week. He explained that the Libyan coastguards intercepted four dinghies, on board of which, there were 431 illegal migrants off Sabratha shores last Thursday.

Unknown Gunmen shot and killed a Police officer in Ondo state


Corporal Michael Olujimi, a policeman attached to the Okitipupa Police Division in Ondo State, is dead after he was shot by unidentified gunmen. The sad incident occurred Saturday, at about 5:30 a.m. Olujimi was heading to the station to resume duty when the gunmen opened fire on him and escaped, immediately leaving him in a pool of his own blood and fighting for his life.

He was still alive when help came and he was rushed to the hospital, sadly he did not make it.

Lagos State needs $30BN to execute 30 capital projects in five years- Governor Ambode


In a statement signed by Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday said that the State would require at least $30billion dollars to adequately deliver 30 most impactful infrastructural projects over the next five years. The Governor, who spoke shortly before inaugurating a 12-member Economic Advisory Committee at the Lagos House, Ikeja, said the projected figure represents about $6billion per annum,  whereas the provision for capital projects in the 2017 budget is pegged at N500billion (about $1.6billion).

Fani-Kayode denies agreeing to return N26m to EFCC


Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has denied the reports from MITV that he had agreed to return N26m to EFCC. He says that report is false and that the case was adjourned in the Abuja Federal High Court.

Ambode's wife charges women groups to speak up against Female Genital Mutilation


Wife of the Governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode, through the Asst. Director Public Affairs, Folashade Kadiri, on Monday, called on mothers, women groups and high-powered government organizations, to step up advocacy towards total eradication of female genital mutilation. She made the call in Alausa, Ikeja, while interacting with journalists on the occasion of the 2017 International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

Bolanle who noted that FGM constituted an extreme form of discrimination against women and girls, violating their rights to health, security and physical integrity, wondered why women should continue to suffer such level of dehumanization, just to get social acceptance or avoid social stigma.

Staff of Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, have decried non-payment of four months’ salary arrears owed them by the council, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

Ibrahim Kabi, Chairman, Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Kuje Chapter, who spoke on behalf of the workers, appealed to the council chairman to pay the arrears.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Kuje that non-payment of salaries had exposed the workers to hardship.

A laptop thief is to spend the next seven years in jail, according to an Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The court sentenced 28-year-old Gbenga Salako to seven years imprisonment for breaking into a woman’s apartment in broad daylight and stealing a laptop worth N70, 000.

Salako whose address was not provided was tried for break-in and stealing.

The accused was first arraigned on August 24, 2016 and he pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him.
