Grant Presidential pardon to treasury looters - Dino Melaye to Buhari


Senator Dino Melaye had called on President Muhammadu Buhari to give presidential pardon and amnesty for treasury looters .

Melaye in statement on Sunday said “Though an unrepentant advocate for integrity and forthrightness especially from public office holders, I however sincerely want to recommend that Mr. President grant Presidential Amnesty/Pardon to all those who looted our treasury provided they return all proceeds of their loot to the government within six (6) months of the declaration of the Amnesty. 

David Oyedepo urges leaders to be selfless


Chancellor of Covenant University (CU) Ota Dr. David Oyedepo has advised leaders to be selfless to move the nation forward.

He spoke at the first David Oyedepo Leadership Symposium to celebrate his 62nd birthday at the university’s African Leadership Development Centre over the weekend.

Oyedepo called for a repositioning of minds to achieve change.

EFCC says 43 high-profile corruption cases between 2007 and 2015 still held up


Forty-three high-profile corruption cases filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) between 2007 and 2015 are still pending in courts, the anti-graft agency said yesterday.

The cases include those involving 16 former governors.

The other pending matters are related to oil subsidy scandal, money laundering and violation of the Public Procurement Act.

HIV cure on the way as British Man to be cured of the virus after Breakthrough Treatment


A 44-year-old man in England may be the first person to be cured of HIV following a breakthrough new treatment.

Following therapy designed by a team of scientists from five UK universities, the virus has disappeared from his blood.

According to Telegraph, the 44-year-old is one of 50 people currently trialing a treatment which targets the disease even in its dormant state.

Benue State | Unknown Gunmen invade police station, kill 3 officers, cart away arms


Gunmen stormed Igumale Police Station in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State, yesterday morning, killing three police officers and leaving another in critical condition. 

It was learned that the heavily-armed men also broke into the armoury of the station and carted away all the arms. The attack is coming few days after Benue State Police Commissioner, Bashir Makama, directed heads of Police Commands and Divisions to intensify patrols of the state ahead of the coming yuletide celebration. According to a senior Ado council staff, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the armed men stormed the police station, which was the only one in the area yesterday at 12:35a.m.

Kumuyi advices Nigerians to look at the brighter side of the country


The General Superintendent, Deeper Life Bible Church, Williams Kumuyi, has urged Nigerians to look at the brighter side of the country as it celebrates its 56th independence anniversary. Kumuyi made the call when he spoke to journalists at the Benin Airport on his way to Delta State for a Church programme on Sunday. 

The cleric also urged the Federal Government to look elsewhere for oil for the country’s economic growth. He said there was hope for the country with the pace of democratic development. He carpeted the recent upsurge in several cases of men of God indulging in undignifying activities and lifestyle. On the nation’s 56th independence anniversary, he said “I would say to start with, we need to thank God in everything, that we got independence that political leaders fought for independence and we got that independence 56 years ago.

Pres. Buhari institutes 24-man Electoral Reform Committee


Perturbed by the current state of affairs in the country’s electoral system, President Muhammadu Buhari, has constituted a 24-man Electoral Reform Committee to be headed by a former Senate President, Dr. Ken Nnamani.

The Committee, whose members were drawn from the Civil Society Organisations, academia, legal profession, traditional institutions, as well as former legislators, will be inaugurated on Tuesday by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN.

NFF asks Super Eagles Players to buy their own Flight tickets for Zambia


Europe-based Super Eagles players have been advised to purchase their flight tickets to Nigeria for the World Cup qualifier against the Chipolopolo in Ndola, Zambia onOctober 9.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has promised to refund the players when they fly into Abuja, even as it was gathered that the players are owed several match bonuses and other allowances.
“This is not good for our morale going into a big game lie the one in Zambia,” lamented one of the invited players when offering his reaction to the latest order from the NFF.

Ebonyi State | Govt increases workers’ salaries by 5%, free 32 prisoners


Engr. David Umahi, Ebonyi State Governor, has announced an increase in the salaries of workers in the State.

This was announced by Engr. Umahi during the 56th independence day celebration and Ebonyi at 20 held at the Abakaliki Township Stadium on Saturday.

Engr. Umahi also pardoned 32 prisoners and commuted the death sentence of 14 others to life imprisonment, was full of praises for the founding fathers of the state.

Hillary Clinton campaign donations hits record $154m in September


Hillary Clinton said Saturday she raised a record $154 million in September in her race for the White House against Donald Trump.

In August, Clinton raised $143 million and Trump $90 million. It is common for campaign donations to increase as the election approaches. This year the voting is on November 8.

The money is in fact divided between Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic Party.

Patience Jonathan dragged to Code of Conduct Bureau over $22m accounts


Nigeria’s former First Lady Patience Jonathan has been dragged to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to explain how she got the $22.3 million she is claiming.

Mrs Jonathan had approached court to claim the money found in the accounts of four illegal companies domiciled in Skye Bank.

The accounts and the money had been frozen by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).

Police killings of Kenyans on the rise - Newspaper reports


Police killings of Kenyans are on the rise, a Kenyan newspaper said on Sunday, as it published the country’s first comprehensive database detailing hundreds of such alleged killings in the past two years.

The Daily Nation, one of Kenya’s top selling newspapers, said it hoped the database covering 262 killings since the beginning of 2015 would help policymakers tackle police impunity. Kenya’s struggle to track such killings has many parallels with the United States, the paper’s data editor Dorothy Otieno said. In both countries, the lack of official information about police killings prompted the national media to begin compiling their own statistics, she said.

CBN Governor praises Buhari, security agencies over wife’s rescue


Central Bank Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has expressed gratitude to God, President Muhammadu Buhari, and security agencies for the rescue of his wife, Margaret, from the hands of kidnappers.

He was, however, silent on whether any ransom was paid to secure her release.

Mrs. Emefiele was abducted last Thursday by kidnappers along Agbor-Benin road and taken to an unknown destination.

24 soldiers allegedly captured by Niger Delta Militants


Members of the Concerned Militant Leaders (CML) of Niger Delta region have declared that 24 soldiers captured during their encounter with military men on Friday morning would not be released.

Also, the CML debunked the claim by the military that seven suspected militants were shot dead during the exchange of gunfire, which occurred along Bakassi Peninsula waterways.

Spokesperson of the dreaded militant group, simply identified as General Ben, stated yesterday, that he did not lose any of his combatants, adding that members of the public should discountenance the report.

Photos of Nigerian Students detained in Turkey over failed Coup


These are some of the alleged photos of over 50 Nigerian students and other students arrested in Turkey over the attempted coup.

They were arrested alongside some citizens of the country. The detained Nigerians were all escorted to a room and their passport confiscated by Turkish police, according to Thisday.

The detainees are mainly students of Fathi University, a private university in metropolitan Buyukcekmece district of Istanbul.
