Buratai says No Local Government territory under Boko Haram control


The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has restated that no local government area in Borno or any territory in the North East Zone is being occupied by the Boko Haram sect.

Buratai spoke on Saturday while responding to questions at a special congress of the FCT Council of the NUJ.

The army chief, who said the military had routed the insurgents and was currently securing the region, noted that terrorism was complex and called for patience.

It was a great disaster yesterday as four persons lost their lives in a boat mishap on their way to the burial ceremony of the late Tunteriwei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, High Chief Thomas Osen Ekpemupolo, father of Ex-freedom fighter, High Chief Oweizide Government Ekpemupolo on Friday.

According to reports, the four victims were on their way from the Miller Waterside, Warri for Kurutie, venue of the burial rites in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State when the incident happened.

Okada Man who raped an 8-year-old says his P*nis was too big for her


On Wednesday,an okada rider identified simply as Daniel in Otukpo, Benue State was arrested, after he allegedly raped an eight-year-old girl in his room on Ogiri Okoh Street, to a point where the girl became unconscious.

It was learnt that after the girl became unconscious, the suspect poured water on her to resuscitate her, after which he sent her home.

59-year-old HIV-positive man, Monday Ekpade has been arrested by the Delta state police command for sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl in Agbor on Sept 4th. According to Monday, he had sex with the minor because he believed that sleeping with her would cure him of HIV.

EFCC allegedly traces N5bn in account of an Army General's daughter


EFCC operatives have reportedly found N5 billion lodged in an account operated by the daughter of an Army General. According to an official in the antigraft agency who spoke on condition of anonymity to The Sun, investigations so far carried out into the account showed that N10 million was sometimes deposited 5 to 6 times within a day.

The source stated that the Army general's daughter is under 30 and recently got married. The accounting officer, a lady who manages the account was subsequently invited by the EFCC. She gave useful information which led to the invitation of the Army General’s daughter towards the last week of August. The source stated that she pleaded for more time to enable her to attend to her infant child.

Not less than three weeks after the discovery of three new polio cases in Borno State, there is growing concern and anxiety among residents of Takai and Tofa Local Government areas of Kano State over the disease.

This development followed the discovery of what health officials described as “compatible polio” cases in each of the council areas. The officials made the discovery during polio immunisation in the state.

Police says Army lied over Niger killings


The Niger State Police command yesterday said the Nigerian Army was being economical with the truth in its reasons for the invasion of Kpaidna and four other villages in Bosso Council of the state.

During the invasion last month, over 20 people, 11 of them soldiers, were killed, while several others were injured and property valued at millions of naira destroyed.

Following the incident, the state government set up a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to look into the remote and immediate causes of the disturbance and proffer recommendations on how to forestall future occurrence.

Around five thousand men from Bama in Borno State will secure the town against attacks by Boko Haram insurgents, it was learnt yesterday.

The people said that they had also contributed money to support the state government’s effort in reconstructing the town.

Bama, the second largest town in Borno, was the worst hit by the Boko Haram insurgency at the height of the terrorist group’s attack in the country as majority of the structures in the town were destroyed.
