Abuja: Residents lament increased disruption caused by herdsmen and cattle grazing along major roads

Residents in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory have reported an increase in disruptive encounters by herdsmen and cattle grazing along major roads. One resident who spoke to Sahara Reporters said the illegal grazing activities by herdsmen which have been obstructing vehicular and pedestrian movement, is just one of many problems facing Abuja. Street hawkers, unemployed youth, and street urchins have taken over every nook and cranny of the city.

Crown Prince of Benin concludes traditional rites for his Coronation

The Benin Traditional Council declared Wednesday that His Royal Highness, Crown Prince (Amb) Eheneden Erediauwa, Edaiken N’Uselu has successfully performed all the required traditional rites including Emwinekhuan (the Royal funerites).

The Iyase of Benin Kingdom, Chief Sam Igbe, who made the announcement at the palace, explained that the conclusion of the rites “completed all the requirement” by the Crown Prince “to ascend to the throne of the Oba of Benin”.

Turkey's president on Wednesday declared a three-month state of emergency following a failed coup. Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the measure was being taken to counter threats to Turkish democracy and wasn't intended to curb basic freedoms. "The aim is to rapidly and effectively take all steps needed to eliminate the threat against democracy, the rule of law and the people's rights and freedoms," Erdogan said. The Senate on Wednesday resolved to begin consideration and screening of 47 ambassadorial nominees sent by President Muhammadu Buhari for approval. 

Concerns were again raised on Tuesday over the non-inclusion of candidates from Bayelsa, Plateau, Ondo, and the Ebonyi States on the list of career Ambassadors forwarded to the Senate for screening by President Muhammadu Buhari.

This follows the presentation of report of the Committee on Foreign Affairs by Deputy Chairman, Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Shehu Sani (APC), Kaduna Central Senatorial District where it was revealed that the process of nominating career Ambassadors by President Buhari was duly taken into consideration, pointing out that the affected States actually did not meet the criteria.
