Chelsea's Nemanja Matic threatens to quit international football after criticising Serbia teammates


Nemanja Matic has threatened to quit the Serbia national team after criticising his teammates following their 4-1 thrashing by the Czech Republic on Friday.

The defeat in Ostrava handed Serbia their second consecutive loss and came after the nation failed to qualify for the 2016 European Championships following their fourth-placed finish in their group.

And Matic admitted after the friendly game against the Czech Republic he had warned Serbia coach Radovan Curcic he could retire from international football because of concerns about his compatriots' attitude both on and off the pitch.

ISIS claims credit for Paris attacks


ISIS has reportedly claimed credit for the attacks separately in a statement it released in Arabic and French. Another statement claimed to be from ISIS reads: "Our brothers who carried out these miracles in Gaul, the day of 29th and 30th Muharram."

The dates mentioned are related to the Islamic calendar and correspond to Nov. 12 and Nov. 13, respectively. The statement is being credited to the official media wing of ISIS, known as the Al-Hayat Media Center, which warns: "Today we bring you your death, and tomorrow we will do the same." 

French President blames Islamic State group for Paris attacks


French President Francois Hollande on Saturday blamed the Islamic State group for the attacks in Paris that left at least 128 dead, calling them an "act of war"

The multiple attacks across the city late Friday were "an act of war... committed by a terrorist army, the Islamic State, against France, against... what we are, a free country," Hollande said.

Exclusive: How I met Bola Tinubu - Fashola


In an excerpts from an interview published in “Asiwaju: Untold Story of The Leader”, a special publication of TheNEWS the newly appointed Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola explains how he first met his mentor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Q: When and how did you meet Senator Bola Tinubu? What was your first impression of him?

A: That is an invitation to walk down memory lane. I think it must have been 1990 or 1991. He was treasurer in Mobil, then. His office was at the Bookshop House at CMS on Odunlami Street. I didn’t directly meet him. I had seen him at parties, but we never met. At that time, I was a senior associate at the law firm of Sofunde, Osakwe, Ogundipe and Belgore, where I was practising. Wale Tinubu, his nephew, came to join the law firm, then. He was always mentioning “Uncle Bola”, and one day, he said: ‘’let’s go and see my uncle.” We got there and went out to
lunch with him. That was then I could say we formally met.

Police Report : At Least 120 Dead, 200 injured In Paris Attacks


It's a sad day in France as at least 120 people and as many as 160 were killed in a series of coordinated terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday, including at least 100 in a packed concert hall. Coming 10 months after a dozen people were killed at the offices of satire magazine Charlie Hebdo, It was the deadliest violence in the French capital since World War II.

Reports on the number of casualties vary, but French police have confirmed at least 120 dead and more than 200 wounded.

Lagos State Governor threatens clampdown on errant motorists, okada riders


Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, on Friday read the riot act to commercial motorcycle operators, popularly called Okada riders, commercial buses and street hawkers, saying the state government would no longer tolerate their nefarious activities on the streets and highways which has caused untold hardship for the people of the state in recent times.

Addressing Government House Correspondents shortly after an emergency Security Council Meeting which he chaired, Ambode said it had become evident that traffic crimes and robbery are mostly as a result of the menace of Okada riders and street hawkers, while recalcitrant commercial buses have become lawless and reckless on the road.

President Muhammadu Buhari has received the list of confirmed ministerial candidates from Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

Saraki personally submitted the list to Buhari today, November 3, 2015, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

He was accompanied to the Villa by the President’s two Senior Special Assistants on Legislative Matters, Ita Enang (Senate) and Suleiman Kawu (House of Representatives).

BVN: You won’t be able to make any cash withdrawals if you haven’t got your BVN - CBN


The Bank Verification Number (BVN) will be the only passport to making cash withdrawals from any bank accounts henceforth, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has warned.

The CBN also extended the deadline for bank customers outside Nigeria to get enrolled on the BVN to January 31, 2016.

CBN Corporate Communications Director, Alh Ibrahim Mu’azu, said in a statement that the extension was to enable the customers in the diaspora complete the enrollment exercise as well as link the BVN with their respective accounts.

Shehu Sani: Biafra activists are working for Former President Goodluck Jonathan


Senator Shehu Sani, believes that the agitators of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra, working for former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Sani, who represents Kaduna Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, said on Monday, that the new Biafra agitators were carrying out the ‘Plan B’ of Pro-Jonathan loyalists.

EFCC: How pension scam syndicate defrauded FG of N1.2bn


The trial of Ibrahim Ahmed Mazangari, Muhammed Sani Sulaiman, Hajia Fatima Mazangari and Saleh Yerima Tsojon, who allegedly ran a syndicate that defrauded the Federal Government to the tune of N1.2 billion in a pension scam, continued on Monday, November 2, 2015 with the prosecution witness giving insight into how they carried out the fraud.

Led in evidence by prosecuting counsel, O. A. Atolagbe, the witness, Roukayya Ibrahim, an investigator with the EFCC and member of the Pension Fraud team, told the court that the fraud was uncovered in 2010 while the Head of Service pension board was being probed.

Presidency: Civil servants to receive their OCTOBER salaries today


The Nigeria Federal Government has confirm that civil servants under its payroll will get their October salaries today November 3rd.

A statement from the Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on media and publicity, Shehu Garba, states that the delay in the salaries was due to the crashing of some computers that were being used when the salaries were to be disbursed last week. The salaries were meant to have been paid a week before the end of October.

Football is a game and there must be a winner and the referee are humans and even their mistake at times makes the game even more interesting to talk about. In a recent match between Sunshine Stars and Lobi Stars was force to an end in Akure, Ondo State yesterday after football enthusiasts alleged to be loyal to Sunshine Stars, stormed the football field and attacked the referee and other football officials for failing to award their preferred team two penalty kicks which they believed they deserved. Some others allege that the irate fans were of Lobi stars.

President Buhari Sympathises With Late Emir of Borgu’s Family


President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with the family of the late Emir of Borgu, Alhaji Haliru Dantoro, Nkitoro III, who died on Friday in a German hospital.

Alhaji Dantoro, aged 77, was a former minister and a former federal lawmaker.

The body of the Late Emir was laid to rest amidst tears at his Palace in New Bussa, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State in Nigeria’s north-central region.

Should Nigerian entertainers pay tax? - By Etcetera


For the record, this article is not meant to give celebrities who don’t pay their taxes a pass. I think we all should pay what we legally owe, including those whose work puts us on the big screen, the sports field or in the recording studio.

But I do have an understanding of the multitude of reasons celebrities give for not paying tax. And I think you should too.

The Nigerian tax system is totally messed up… yes, messed up in all ramifications. I concur with the argument that monies generated from taxes in Nigeria are not judiciously used by the government. Or we haven’t seen what the money is being used for.

Two Women Strip & Naked By MobsFor Stealing N100,000 In Abuja Market


Two women were on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 stripped totally naked by a raging mob for allegedly stealing N100,000 from a wine shop at Dutsen Alhaji market, Bwari Area Council in Abuja.

According to Daily Post, the women who pretended to be buying some items entered into the shop at the market and while one of the women approached the shop owner and negotiating the price of a bottle of wine, her accomplice dipped her hand into the drawer and removed N100,000.

Business Tycoon, Aliko Dangote Set to Unveil World's Largest Petrochemical Refinery in Lagos


The management of Dangote Petrochemical Company, has said their new refinery would commence commercial operations at the beginning of 2018 following the speed at which contractors are delivering on their mandate, as the company is set to unveil the world 'Largest Single Refinery'.

The Refinery which was initially designed to handle 450,000 barrels per day, has been expanded to refine 600,000 barrels a day which comes on stream early 2018 and will make Nigeria self-sufficient in petroleum products refining and also become a major exporter of such products.
