Rock in Abeokuta crushes mother, three children to death


Abeokuta which is the capital of Ogun State is famous with many rocks from which it derived his name from, but it was a different story on Friday night as one of the rock came crashing down on crushing a family of four to death.

According to the Nation, the victims killed were a mother (Silifat Lawal); two of her children (Raaheedat,15, Semia,4); and a grandchild  (Mariam).

DSS, NPF to Re-Examine Buhari’s Ministerial List


Any nominee with any challenge capable of creating image crisis for the government or unfit to be a minister may be dropped after screening by the DSS and the Nigeria Police Force according to a report by Nigeria’s Nation newspaper.

The Department of State Security Services (DSS) on Friday invited all the 21 candidates named by President Muhammadu Buhari for security checks.

The verification includes scrutiny of educational certificates, checks for any past prosecution, among others.

The Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) group have joined the rest of the world to mark the day of ‘The Girl Child’.

This was revealed in a statement delivered by a representative of the group, Abubakar Yusuf in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

They noted that the continuous captivity and prolonged inability of the government to rescue the girls clearly portrays a breakdown of the social contract between the government and the citizenry.

The former Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu has reacted to reports of feud between him and the Senate President.

A statement Sunday from Conakry signed by Sunday Dare, the former Lagos governor’s media director said: “The idea of an alleged conspiracy between Tinubu and Saraki against the President is an execrable lie.”

Chibok girls not pregnant for Boko Haram - Defense HQ


The Defence Headquarters has debunk media reports that many of the over 200 schoolgirls, who were kidnapped in April, 2014 from the Government Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State, have been impregnated by members of the Boko Haram sect.

According to report, the Acting Director, Defence Information, Col. Rabe Abubakar, said the publication by a national newspaper that one of the girls, who escaped from the insurgents and handed over to the military at Baga, made the claim, was misleading and spurious.

Nigerian Air Force plane crashes in Yola


Director of Defense Information for the Nigerian Armed Forces, Col Rabe Abubakar has confirmed that A Nigerian Air force plane crashed in Yola Adamawa state today October 10th. By the time of this report the cause of the crash is yet to be ascertain.

Felix Okugbe, Veteran Sports Journalist is Dead


Okugbe died on Saturday morning at the Lagos State Teaching Hospital. He passed away after a long battle with cancer, says his family.

Okugbe was the Head of Sports communication at Africa Independent Television and RayPower.

Diepreye Alamieyeseigha is dead


Former Bayelsa state Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha is dead according to report. Alamieyeseigha reportedly died at a private hospital in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The former governor had reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest earlier in the week. 

Channels Television reports that the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information, Esueme Dan-Kikili, confirmed that Alamieyeseigha died of cardiac arrest on Saturday.

Amaechi to Wike: "Take me to court and stop throwing childish tantrums"


Its no longer news that there is a standing feud going on between Governor of Rivers state, Wike Nyesom and his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi.

Amaechi has described the committee set up by Wike to probe his administration, as a silly and sickening distraction. The former governor dared Wike to go to court if he has any case of alleged corrupt activities against him.

Amaechi, who disclosed this in a statement released by his media office, said it was obvious that Wike’s panel was on a mission to indict him.

355 Nigerians involved, 99 confirmed dead in Mina stampede


The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) today said that 355 Nigerians were involved in the Mina Stampede that occurred on September 24th and that out of the 769 people that died, 99 of them were Nigerians. 

The Commissioner in charge of Information, Research and Library Service of NAHCON, Dr Saleh Okenwa said 214 Nigerian pilgrims were still missing, 42 were injured and 7 are still on admission getting treatment.

President Buhari says Improving National Security Remains Topmost Priority


President Muhammadu Buhari has said that significant improvement in national security remains the topmost priority of his administration.

The President made the disclosure on Thursday in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media & Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, stressing that other socio-economic initiatives cannot be successfully implemented without adequate security in the Nigeria.

President Buhari, who was speaking at an audience with Britain’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Sir Nicholas Houghton, reaffirmed his administration’s determination to end the Boko Haram insurgency as quickly as possible.

Nigerian House of Representatives to commence investigation of $470 Million CCTV Contract


An ad-hoc committee of the Nigerian House of Representatives is to investigate the $470 million contract for the installation of CCTVs in Lagos and Abuja, which was awarded in 2010. The committee is expected to report back to the house in four weeks time.

This is in the wake of recent bomb blast in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Rihanna was there as Ibrahimovic becomes PSG all time goalscorer


Rihanna was one of the thousands of spectators that watch at Parc des Princes as the Ligue 1 champions faced Marseille on Sunday night.

Rihanna who was in French capital for Paris Fashion Week decided to spend some time out to watch the match which saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic become the club's greatest ever goalscorer. The match ended 2-1 in favor of PSG

Younger Brother to MKO Abiola dies at 74


Mubashiru Abiola, the younger brother of Moshood Abiola, winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, is dead. He was 74 years old.

Family sources said Mr. Abiola died on Friday at his home in Gaa Sabo area of Abeokuta after a protracted illness. He was buried Saturday.

At the burial ceremony at his residence, family members and sympathizers were seen weeping over their loss.

Nigerian man sentenced to 12 years in jail in Vietnam for conning with false promises of love


Oshanugo James Anyasi, 35, was sentenced by a Hanoi court to 12 years in jail Tuesday, September 29, for two separate fraud convictions, including one for pretending to love women and conning them out of money. Oshanugor was convicted of cyber fraud for appropriating other people’s assets.

The love con involved three others, including a Vietnamese woman who is serving a 3-year sentence given in February for the crime.Two other Nigerian men, the alleged masterminds, are still at large.

The four met each other in September 2012 and decided to cheat Vietnamese women by hooking up with them online, pretending to become their lovers and promising them expensive gifts, then faking phone calls and emails from customs and shipping agencies to ask them to transfer shipping fees to certain accounts.

Diezani Alison-Madueke Granted Bail


Nigeria’s former Petroleum Minister, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, who was arrested in London on Friday, has been granted bail.

This was after she had been detained for several hours. The London Police also confirmed that she is to be charged to court for money laundering.

Mrs Alison-Madueke was arrested in London on Friday along with four other persons in relation to corruption allegations being investigated by the UK National Crime Agency.

Ex Pertoleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke Arrested In London


Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday carried out a search of the Asokoro, Abuja, residence of Diezani Alison-Madueke as part of a multinational investigation of the former minister of petroleum resources.

The former minister was arrested in London, UK, on Friday by the newly formed International Corruption Unit of the country’s National Crimes Agency.

The agency announced on its website on Friday that it had arrested five people “across London” as part of an investigation into suspected bribery and money laundering offences but stopped short of naming the suspects.
