Amateur footballer died after sliding off a wet pitch following a tackle


So sad! An amateur footballer died after he slid off a wet pitch following a sliding tackle and smashed his head into the clubhouse wall, UK Mail reports.

Striker Ben Hiscox, 30, who played for Stoke Gifford United in Bristol, was knocked unconscious after hitting the wall, which was just six feet behind the goal.

He suffered two seizures and died in hospital two days later.

Boko Haram sends ThisDay Editor a threat mail after writing article against sect


Thisday newspapers Editor Adeola Akinremi reportedly received a threat mail from members of the Boko Haram over his anti-Boko Haram articles. According to the report, Akinremi received the threat mail in May after his visit to Adamawa state to investigate the plight of Internally Displaced Persons and the activities of the sect in the state. Akinremi afterwards wrote a piece titled, Why Boko Haram don’t deserve our amnesty?.

The Imo State Government has reacted to reports credited to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Mike Ahamba that Governor Rochas Okorocha is threatening his life.

Ahamba is the lead counsel to Emeka Ihedioha, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, who is challenging the election of Okorocha at the State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

We had earlier reported that Chief Ahamba in the press statement that he personally signed, claimed that during the last meeting the Governor had with traditional rulers in the state, he had stood up traditional rulers from Mbaise area and sent a threat to him through them, among other disturbing claims.

Bomb Blast Kills 20 People At Government Lodge In Kaduna



Another bomb blast has reportedly gone off at the Government Lodge in Sabon Gari, Zaria, Kaduna State. According to the report, the lodge is the centre for the on-going verification exercise for civil servants in that state.

Eyewitness says the explosive went off about 9 a.m., adding that the area has been taken over by security personnel.

A Malaysian court has ordered the detention of five Nigerian students in Malysia for their alleged involvement in a N125.2m (RM2.4 million) internet fraud in Selangor & Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

According to local media reports, the 5 Nigerian students who are between the ages of 20 and 30 are undergraduates pursuing a degree in Information Technology in a leading University Kuala Lumpur. They were arrested on June 30, 2015.

President Buhari approves N400bn to pay workers’ salaries


President Muhammadu Buhari has approved a comprehensive relief package of over N400bn for the payment of workers’ salaries in the country.

According to a recent report of the Nigeria Labour Congress Task Force, 18 states are owing employees salary arrears of at least six months.

The debtor states include; Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Benue, Cross River, Ekiti, Imo, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Kogi. Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers and Zamfara.

182 suspected Boko Haram members freed by Nigeria Military


The Nigerian military on Monday released 182 Boko Haram suspects detained for alleged link with the terrorist group in Borno State, the army authority said.

Nigerian army chief, Lt. Gen Kenneth Minimah, who handed over the suspects to the Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, at a military base, said the suspects have been cleared by military authorities after necessary investigations.

Manchester United winger Nani has finally completed a transfer to Turkish giants Fenerbahce after  he under went a medical with the club before signing a deal believed to be in the region of £4.25 million.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Monday Akpan, Bright Agbojule, Jafaru and Baba Ibeji. Baba Ibeji was reportedly arrested in Ondo State while the three other suspects were arrested in Ikorodu.

President Buhari fires his Chief Security Officer orders him to be redeploy out of the presidential villa



President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday fired his Chief Security Officer, Abdulrahman Mani, and requested the State Security Service to redeploy him out of the presidential villa, sources in the presidential villa and the State Security Service reported.

 It was learnt that Mr. Mani has since been replaced by Bashir Abubakar, who, until his appointment was an assistant director in the Bayelsa state command of the SSS but the presidency has yet to officially announce the development.

Suicide Bomber hits RCCG Church in Potiskum, kills 5 persons


A suicide bomber attacked a RCCG church in Potiskum, Yobe State, killing at least five worshippers, a police officer and witness have said.

The bomber entered the uncompleted Redeemed Christian Church of God on Sunday, in the Jigawa area on the outskirts of the city, and detonated his explosives, killing the worshippers, including a woman and her two children as well as the pastor.

10 months old baby found alive One Mile Off The Coast of Aegean Sea


A 10 months old baby girl was rescued by Turkish coast guard rescued who found the baby drifting more than half a mile out to sea in a flotation device.

On Friday, winds pushed Melda Ilgin far out into the Aegean Sea, off the western coast of Turkey, without her parents’ noticing, The Telegraph reported.

Beachgoers unsuccessfully tried reaching the girl before the rescue boat arrived, The Guardian reported.

Nigeria Banks makes Global List of Top Banks


Some of our new generational bank including Access Bank, First Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank and Zenith Bank are among the nine Nigeria banks that made this year’s list of top 1,000 global banks released yesterday by the Banker magazine in London.

Others are Ecobank, Diamond Bank, UBA, Fidelity and FCMB. All of them are among the top 25 banks in Africa.

According to the Banker, Zenith Bank placed first among Nigerian top banks in terms of tier 1 capital but 6th in Africa with a capital of $3.162 billion. It was followed by Eco Transnational which is second in Nigeria and 7th in Africa with a capital base of $3.030 billion.
