Magistrate Court frees man that named his dog 'Buhari'

A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Sango, yesterday, dismissed charges filed against the man who named his dog ‘Buhari’ in a community in Ogun state. Magistrate O. O. Adebo said the prosecutor failed to substantiate his case against Joachim Iroko and consequently struck out all charges preferred against him. Mr. Iroko’s lawyer was ecstatic, yesterday, praising the court for the verdict.

Mr. Iroko, 41, was arrested in August 2016 for causing a breach of peace after he was reported by his neighbour, for alleged insensitivity in Mr. Iroko’s action of naming his dog after the President.

Men of the Nigerian Police have arrested a notorious Boko Haram commander who escaped from Sambisa forest.

A fleeing Boko Haram deputy commander, Seth Yakubu has been arrested at Gwako Village in Gwagwalada area of the Federal Capital Territory.

Yakubu who is 20-year-old insurgent hailed from Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, was nabbed at about 11.30am on Sunday after a tip-off, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Musa Kimo, told journalists on Monday in Abuja.

'Universal cure for HIV, Cancer close' – Scientist who discovered the HIV virus says

A Nobel Laureate, Prof. Francoise Barre-Sinoussi, says efforts are ongoing to develop a universal cure for HIV and cancer through collaboration.

Barre-Sinoussi, a co-discoverer of the HIV, said this in Paris while conducting some select journalists on a tour of the sophisticated laboratories at Institut Pasteur. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Barre-Sinoussi and Luc Montagnier co-discovered the HIV in 1983. She also stated that the HIV Cure and Cancer Forum would on Saturday be inaugurated at the Institut Curie in Paris.
