Estranged husband to Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe, Lanre Gentry, is blaming the government (who got him arrested for domestic violence) for not minding their business and directly/indirectly separating his home.

He also blasted government for making his ex-wife ambassador for widows. He condemned the government’s action while wishing men all around the world a happy father’s day in an Instagram post.

2017 budget: FG to release N350bn for capital projects


The Federal Government is set to release the first tranche of capital release of N350bn to Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government for implementation of the 2017 budget.

The Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun disclosed this during a public presentation of the 2017 budget on Monday in Abuja.

Berger Paints Allegedly Sacks All Staff


According to reports, all staff of Berger Paints has been disengaged. The staff are said to have been on strike for the past 2 weeks because of the new living wage the company implemented.

The new wage stops gratuity payment and adds the money to staff's monthly salary, so that upon retirement, you get no gratuity. The new policy was implemented in 2015, creating an impression that they had done a salary increment.

Policeman who Sustained Injury In The Cause Of Evans' Arrest, Thank God For Sparing His Life


Livinus Michael is a policeman who was part of the team that stormed the Magodo residence of notorious kidnap kingpin, Evans, on June 10th, 2017 and arrested him after an intense gun battle between that lasted several hours.

In a post on Facebook, Michael praised God for sparing his life after he got injured during the arrest process. He wrote:

Tragic! OAU student drowns in off-campus swimming pool


A 300-Level student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Fatile Emmanuel, drowned when he went to swim at a hotel outside the university campus.

Our correspondent gathered that the late student, who was studying in the Faculty of Pharmacy, died at OAU Teaching Hospital on Sunday.

It was learnt on Monday that the deceased went to the swimming pool with two of his colleagues when the incident happened.

Heavy downpour cuts off rail line connecting North, South

The heavy rain that fell on June 11, 2017 has cut off the rail line that links the Northern and Southern part of Nigeria at Ndafun in Niger State.

The downpour, which also led to the destruction of farmlands, houses and fruit-trees and vehicles, reportedly damaged 300 meters of rail tracks, thus halting the North-South locomotive service.

Metuh writes DSS to allow Dasuki to testify as witness over alleged N400m fraud

Erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, who is facing trial over allegation that he received N400million prior to the 2015 general election, on Monday, insisted on calling the detained former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki, retd, to testify on his behalf.

Metuh, via a letter he wrote through his team of lawyers, asked the Department of State Service, DSS, to allow Dasuki who is currently in its custody, to appear before the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court on Tuesday as his witness.

Pastor Bakare: I’ll lead nationwide protest against military coup in Nigeria


Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Latter Rain Assembly and Convener, Save Nigeria Group, SNG has said that he would personally lead a nationwide protest against any attempt by the military to oust the present democratic system of government in Nigeria.

The pastor said although a civilian government may be bad, it is however preferable to the military government which he said would only plunge the nation backward.

DRAMA! Angry residents prevent IEDC officials from disconnecting them from power supply


A mild drama occurred in Ajao Estate, a neighborhood in Ikeja area of Lagos State, as residents prevented officials of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, IEDC, from disconnecting them from public power supply.

In a video, the residents could be seen preventing IEDC officials from climbing ladders attached to some of the electric poles in the area.

An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Lagos, on Monday remanded a 61-year-old Islamic cleric, Taofeek Adams in prison for allegedly beheading a woman seeking spiritual help.

Adams, who resides at Masinowe compound, Ikoga in Badagry, was charged with conspiracy and murder.

Suspected female kidnapper apprehended in Ikorodu (Photos)


A suspected female kidnapper was apprehended on Remilekun Ayangade Street, Olayemi Estate, Agbele Area of Ikorodu today June 17th.

Although the details surrounding the matter is still sketchy, the lady has been locked up in the home of one of the chiefs of the community who is keeping her until the police arrive as members of the community were clamoring for jungle justice.

Lagos Apapa road to be shut down for one-year

A section of the Apapa Wharf will be shut down for one-year to enable its construction. The Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, said this at the official signing of Memorandum of Understanding and handing over of the project to the sponsors. 

The N4.34bn project is jointly sponsored by Dangote, Flour Mills companies and Federal Government. The two kilometres road construction between the Nigerian Port Authority and end of the bridge is expected to take one-year starting from Saturday.

Why Buhari has failed to create jobs he promised Nigerians

Ex-German chancellor, Helmut Kohl has died

Helmut Kohl, the former German chancellor, and architect of reunification in 1990, has died at the 87. Bild newspaper reports that he died today at his house in Ludwigshafen, in the western state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

A new survey conducted by NOIPolls and Business Day Media has shown that Nigerians would prefer middle-aged candidates for the country’s 2019 presidential elections.  

According to the poll, 64% of Nigerians say they would prefer to vote for a presidential candidate between the ages of 40 and 50 years; while 15% say they would make do with candidates whose ages ranged between 51 and 60 years.

Lagos state Govt denies plan to replace MKO Abiola's statues at Ojota


The Lagos State Government on Tuesday refuted reports that it was planning to replace the statues of the late Chief MKO Abiola and the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi at the Ojota parks with another monument.

Acting Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Hon. Adebimpe Akinshola, while reacting to a media report that the State was planning to replace the statues, said the ongoing remodeling of both parks was to accommodate bigger sculptures of the two prominent Nigerians.
