Federal Government explain why restructuring won’t work now


Their “agitation” and “provocative rhetorics”  cannot achieve their dream, Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami (SAN) said.

He warned those behind the quest for restructuring to avoid demonstrations because “it is a complex process”.

He said although Nigeria’s federal system had been experiencing challenges, its reforms could not be done in one fell swoop.

We’re teaching Chibok girls to speak good English – FG says

The Federal Government says it has begun teaching the rescued Chibok schoolgirls how to speak proper English.

The government has also employed 20 teachers to help the girls with remedial classes.

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Aisha Alhassan, said this in Abuja on Tuesday while receiving the recently rescued 82 Chibok schoolgirls.

Governors no longer sponsor NYSC camping - DG says

The Director General, National Youth Service Corps, Brig.-Gen. Zachari Kazaure, on Tuesday, raised the alarm that some state governors were no longer sponsoring the camping of corps members.

He stated that this development had impacted negatively on camp activities, adding that the governors were abdicating their statutory responsibilities by not supporting the NYSC in the area of camping.

He appealed to them to sponsor camping and ensure that the camp facilities were of good standards.

Nalongo Barbara Nvannungi, a woman in Nakawuka, Wakiso district in Ugandan, keeps a python at her home, but when wildlife authorities wanted to take it away, she claimed that “he” is her child, saying that she gave birth to twins in 2008, and reasoned that they cannot take her child away from her.

Residents are worried that the python could present a danger to the village and they went to Uganda Reptiles Village, Entebbe, asking them to take the python, but the mother is against taking away “her” child.

CAN backs Governor Ambode over sacking of Chaplain (PHOTOS)


The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lagos State Chapter on Tuesday denied the involvement of the wife of the State Governor, Mrs Bolanle Ambode in the sacking of former Presiding Chaplain of Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Venerable Femi Taiwo, saying that the allegation was not only untrue but unjust and erroneous.

A newspaper had alleged in its series of reports that Taiwo was sacked for allegedly disrespecting Mrs Ambode by failing to accord her due recognition during an anointing service.

Governor El-Rufai says he has fulfilled his promises in Kaduna


Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai on Monday said his government has fulfilled all the electoral promises he made to the people.

The governor said this in a state-wide broadcast to mark his two years in office.

El Rufai said ‎despite recruiting over 7000 personnel within the last two years, the state’s 2016 recurrent expenditures showed a N5bn reduction in personnel cost, as it moved from N26.8bn in 2015‎ to N21.8bn.

Former Panamanian dictator, Manuel Noriega, dead at 83

Panama’s former dictator Manuel Antonio Noriega died in Panama City late Monday, physically diminished after decades of imprisonment for crimes committed during his 1983-1989 rule.

Noriega, 83, passed away in Panama City’s public Santo Tomas hospital where he had been recovering from early March surgery to remove a brain tumour, and a subsequent operation to clean up cerebral bleeding.

Politician and NURTW boss, Rasaq Bello shot dead during APC primaries


A prominent member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos is dead. Rasaq Bello, popularly called Hamburger, was shot on Monday in the Shogunle area of Lagos during the local council primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He was shot by members of a rival gang allegedly led by Samson Agbetoye, popularly called Golden. Golden is said to belong to the MC Oluomo faction of the NURTW in the state.

Al-Shabaab militants in Somalia buried a man neck-deep and stoned him to death allegedly for cheating on his two wives. Dayow Mohamed Hassan, 44, was killed in the southern village of Ramo Adey in front of hundreds of onlookers.

Moalim Geedow, the regional governor representing the al Qaeda-linked insurgency, said Hassan was buried in a hole then pelted with stones.

Democracy Day: APC, PDP trade words over Buhari’s re-election in 2019

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has said President Muhammadu Buhari needs eight years to put Nigeria on a good footage.

The party noted that it cannot rebuild what has been destroyed for sixteen years within two or four years.

But the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state said President Buhari does not deserve another term of four years.

APC Chairman, Odigie-Oyegun faults Buhari’s appointments in last two years

The All Progressives Congress, APC’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has faulted some appointments made by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

Describing the appointments as improper, Oyegun said that such appointments had caused tension in the APC in the past two years of being in power.

Oyegun stated this yesterday in Abuja while reviewing the activities of the APC administration in its two years in office.
