Senate bars Lottery Commission DG from office


As a result of the irregularity that surrounds the appointment of Director General, National Lottery Regulatory Commission, Mr. Adolphus Joe Ekpe, Senate on Thursday has barred him from office.

The decision which was taken through order 43 of the Senate rules by the Senate leader, Ahmed Lawan, confirmed that the DG has actually resumed office and was discharging responsibilities in that capacity.

MTN In Fresh Crisis, Fined $8.5m


Rwanda’s telecom industry regulator has fined MTN Rwanda, a division of South Africa’s MTN Group, 7 billion francs (8.5 million dollars) for running its IT services outside the country in breach of its licence.

The regulator said in a ruling posted on its website in Kigali that MTN Rwanda was hosting its IT services hub in Uganda, which it had prohibited.

NYSC: 2017 Batch A Orientation course starts 23rd May

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that the 2017 Batch A orientation course starts on Tuesday, 23rd May to Monday, 12th June, 2017 nationwide.

The NYSC further enjoined Batch A 2017 prospective corps members to start printing their call up letters and those who did not subscribe for online printing should go their institutions of graduation.

A woman was beaten to a pulp by her husband in Kwara state yesterday May 17th. Twitter user, M.A Olatoki shared a video of the man rushing his wife to the hospital after she fainted during the beating. He was arrested by officers of the Ganmo Police station in Ilorin.

Delta Governor, Okowa says Hausa/Fulani behind most kidnappings

Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, of Delta State, has asserted that Hausa/Fulanis are responsible for most of the kidnappings recorded in his state.

Okowa made the declaration on Wednesday during a Town Hall meeting in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.

Michael Flynn and other advisers to Donald Trump’s campaign were in contact with Russian officials and others with Kremlin ties in at least 18 calls and emails, current and former U.S. officials familiar with the exchanges told Reuters.

The sources said the 18 calls and emails, took place in the last seven months of the 2016 presidential race.

NSCDC arrests candidate with gun at JAMB centre

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Nasarawa State has arrested a 21-year-old suspected candidate for being in possession of firearms in one of the centres of the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in the state.

Mr Bashir Lawal-Kano, the state commandant of the NSCDC, told newsmen in Lafia on Thursday that the suspect was arrested at the Nasarawa State Polytechnic centre during a search at the entrance to the hall.

European Union Bars Nigerian Airline from Its Airspace

The European Commission has barred Nigerian airline, Med-View Airlines, from operating within its airspace over safety reasons.

The airline was one of those under the EU Air Safety List Annex A, which includes all airlines banned from operating in Europe.

The tragic news broke today that Nollywood actress, Moji Olaiya, the daughter of the legendary musician, Victor Olaiya, has sadly passed away.

Authorities in India nab two Nigerian involve in drug peddling, recovers 2kg heroin

Two Nigerian nationals identified as Celestine Ikeweta (37) and Edeh Sunday Chukwudi, 29, on May 17th, 2017 was arrested in Ludhiana, Delhi for supplying drugs in Punjab. In the process of their arrest, 2kg of heroin was recovered from two places in the district.

Deputy inspector general (Ludhiana range) Yurinder Singh Hayer said that during the investigation of a previous case in which an accused, Balvir Singh, was arrested with heroin, it was found that two Nigerians, residing at Vikas Puri in New Delhi, are the suppliers of the drugs.

Family, friends, and mourners gathered at Diepkloof Hall in Soweto on Wednesday for the memorial service of slain Karabo Mokoena.

The 22-year-old was found dead days after she was reported missing and her remains set alight in Lyndhurst‚ on April 29‚ allegedly by her boyfriend. 

Her family only learnt of her death last week‚ after searching for her and pleading for assistance in finding her on social media.

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has told the Nigerian Army to stop allocating soldiers to politicians.

Wike stated this while reacting to a comment by Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai, that some people were approaching soldiers for political reasons.

Speaking during the flag off of the construction of the Old Aba Road by Mbano Junction in Oyigbo Local Government Area on Wednesday, the Governor said the attachment of soldiers to politicians was a threat to national security.

82-year-old former minister passes exam in jail


A former minister, who is serving a 10-year jail term for corruption, has passed a school final examination at the age of 82, his son said Wednesday.

Prakash Chautala, a four-time chief minister of the northern state of Haryana, India, took the class 12 school-leaving exam conducted by India’s open schooling system at its centre in Tihar jail, said his younger son Abhay Chautala, a legislator in Haryana.

Maria Sharapova denied French Open wild card


Maria Sharapova will not play at Roland Garros this year, after the French tennis federation denied her a wild card, FFT president Bernard Guidicelli confirmed on Tuesday.

The two-time champion only returned from a 15-month doping ban last month.

Sharapova will now miss the French Open, which she won in 2012 and 2014, for the second year in a row.

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has stated that $3.2m (N1.08bn) worth of HIV drugs expired in storage.

Adewole made this disclosure while delivering a speech at the ‘Dissemination Meeting of 2016 National Health Facility Survey’ in Abuja on Tuesday.
