Okezie Ikpeazu remains Governor of Abia state after victory in Supreme Court


The Supreme Court, Friday morning, affirmed Okezie Ikpeazu as the Governor of Abia State. The case was filed by Uche Ogah who had accused Ikpeazu of allegedly submitting false tax information to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Ikpeazu defeated Ogah in the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, primaries ahead of the 2015 gubernatorial election in the state.

Tragic accident on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway resulting to gridlock


An accident which occurred at the Magboro end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has caused serious gridlock.

The accident which involved a truck and a Hyundai Accent car was caused by reckless driving according to eyewitnesses. No life was however lost.

A 39-year-old housewife, Yemisi Akinwunmi, has told a customary court sitting in Agege, Lagos, how her husband ordered her to kneel down and stretch forth her hands before flogging her. She is seeking to end her 20-year-old marriage and free her from the pangs of daily corporal punishment meted out to her by the husband.

She told the court, “My husband constantly beats me and whenever he wants to do so, he tells me to kneel down and stretch my hands like a pupil before caning me.

David Beckham makes acting debut in ‘King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword’


Former footballer and England national team captain, David Beckham has made acting debut in a new classical movie “King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword.”

The ex-international made cameo appearance in the trailer of the highly awaited blockbuster released on Tuesday ahead of the film’s premiere on May 19. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Beckham, who also played for Manchester United , having conquered the world of football, now appears to be turning his attention to acting.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki reveals how herdsmen get their weapons


Senate President Bukola Saraki has revealed that some of the armed herdsmen in the country acquire their weapons from neighbouring countries.

Saraki, therefore, said there was a need for the Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States to find ways to deal with the growing insecurity in the region, especially with the proliferation of small arms and light weapons.
He made these observations while delivering a speech at the opening session of the ECOWAS Parliament in Abuja on Wednesday.

The Imo State government on Thursday confirmed the death of the President of the customary court of Appeal in the state, Justice P. I Okpara.

A statement in Owerri, the state capital which was signed by the chief press secretary to the governor, Sam Onwuemeodo, stated that the jurist died after a brief illness.

Charles Soludo: Nigeria more divided under Buhari than any time in history

Former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has observed that Nigeria as at “today has never been more divided than any time in our history.”

The former CBN governor, who made the remark in Enugu, also noted that Nigeria is at the verge of breakup.

He said only big ideas can save the country from an impending doom.

Breakdown of National Assembly’s N125 billion budget


A total of N125 billion has been budgeted for the National Assembly in the 2017 Appropriation Bill.

Reports had said the lawmakers were pushing for increment of their budgetary allocation to N150 billion from N115 billion allocated to the National Assembly in 2016.
