More than 7m PVCs are yet to be collected - INEC boss reveals

Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Boss, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has lamented that there were over seven million uncollected Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs, across the country, saying it posed a challenge to future elections.


He said this, yesterday, at a one-day CSO strategy meeting to review elections in Nigeria post 2015, in Lagos.

How Militant group killed eight pirates, kidnappers in Bayelsa


The Niger Delta Revolutionary Council, NDRC, a militant group in the Niger Delta region, clashed with a gang of sea pirates and kidnappers at Azuzuama, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, leaving eight leaders of the pirates, including the leader, “General Thunder,” dead.

The group claimed that its strike force invaded the den of the sea robbery gang and engaged the members in a gun battle.

Sule Lamido: Buhari’s anti-corruption war is noise


Former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has described the anti-corruption war of President Muhammadu Buhari as a ruse.

Speaking in an interview with the Hausa Service of the BBC, Lamido wondered how a man who worked under Sani Abacha, the late military dictator, could be talking about fighting corruption.

Abacha appointed Buhari as chairman of the then Petroleum Trust Fund, PTF.

Borno State | Three soldiers killed by Boko haram IED

Not less than three soldiers have been killed by an Improvised Explosive Device planted by Boko Haram insurgents. The soldiers were attached to the 82 Division Task Force Battalion of the Nigerian Army in Borno.

According to reports, the soldiers were on patrol along the Ngoshe-Pulka Road when the IED exploded.

A man who survived the tragic incident that led to the electrocution of over 30 people at a football viewing centre in Calabar, capital of Cross River state, has his stars to thank. Over 30 people are feared dead at a football viewing centre in Calabar, the Cross River State capital on Thursday after a high tension cable fell on them.

Channels Television correspondent in Calabar reported that the live electricity cable broke from its mooring and fell on the viewers.

A Ugandan pastor has set his path of provoking Christians all over the world after he burnt thousands of bible.

According to the report, the Pastor, who is the Head pastor of House of Prayer Ministries, Kampala, Uganda ordered his members of his congregation to gather hundreds of Bible together.

A Gay wedding reportedly held in Zaria, where 53 people were arrested including young students. They were later arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court in Chediya, Zaria on Wednesday, April 19.

The wedding reportedly took place in a Zaria Motel between one Faruk and Sanusi on Saturday, April 15, where they were arrested.

Court orders forfeiture of N449 million found in Lagos shop


Justice Rilwan Aikawa of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday ordered the temporary forfeiture of N449, 750,000 found in an abandoned Bureau de Change shop on Victoria Island, Lagos.

He ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to advertise the order in a newspaper.

The judge said anybody interested in the money should report in court to justify ownership.

Meningitis death toll hits 745


The death toll from the meningitis outbreak in the country has reached 745 since November 2016.

According to the update released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday, 8,057 suspected cases of meningitis have been reported across the country so far.

Of the 8,057 cases, 7,519 (93 per cent) occurred in five states that had reached outbreak levels for Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) serotype C.

A plane full of passengers was delayed after a married couple started wrestling on the tarmac in a blazing row before take-off. The couple ended up brawling on the floor - with the husband pinning his wife to the ground and swinging his fists in the direction of her face - as they clashed.

The flight was delayed by around half an hour as airport staff struggled to bring the quarreling pair on the tarmac in to order.
