President Muhammadu Buhari suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal and National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Director-General Ayo Oke after two meetings with his kitchen cabinet.

There were indications last night that the Presidency may not recall the officials. Besides, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited the wife of the suspended DG for questioning.

El-Rufai under fire over anti-Southwest, Tinubu comment

Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai was under fire yesterday for denigrating the contributions of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Southwest base to the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2015 elections.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, Senator Shehu Sani, took a swipe at El-Rufai, describing the governor’s remarks on the APC stalwart as the height of ingratitude.

Presidency to extend whistle-blower policy to illegal weapons

Apparently encouraged by the string of successes recorded in the war against corruption and unaccounted wealth, the Presidency yesterday spoke of a plan to extend the Whistleblower policy to illegally acquired arms and ammunitions.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, who confirmed the development to reporters at the State House in Abuja, said plans are underway to strengthen the mechanism of the policy.

SaharaReporters has obtained the full list of occupants of a swanky apartment building in Lagos where operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) found close to $50million last week.

The building, located at 16 Osborne Road in Ikoyi, has nine floors of 19 Apartments and two penthouses.  It is owned by a former Peoples Democratic Party chairman, Ahmed Muazu, who retained for himself the penthouses, 10A and B; as well as Apartments 11A and 11B.

Ebonyi State | Government bans consumption of Coke, Fanta, Sprite at its events

Apparently worried by reports alleging that some soft drinks in the country could be dangerous to health, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State on Tuesday banned the serving and consumption of Coke, Sprite and Fanta at government functions in the state.

The governor gave the directive during a meeting with traditional rulers and town union executives in the state.

Meningitis death toll hits 745

The death toll from the meningitis outbreak in the country has reached 745 since November 2016.

According to the update released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday, 8,057 suspected cases of meningitis have been reported across the country so far.

Of the 8,057 cases, 7,519 (93 per cent) occurred in five states that had reached outbreak levels for Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) serotype C.
