Hoodlums kill policeman in beer parlour, steal rifle

A police officer have been attacked and killed and riffle stolen by unidentified hoodlums in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, this is coming barely one week after a policeman lost his service rifle to unknown gunmen.
The unnamed policeman was reportedly killed in a beer parlour in the state capital.
It was learnt that the hoodlums stole a police AK47 rifle after murdering the policeman at one of the relaxation spots on Hospital Road area.

Prof. Zhang Yong-Peng, a research fellow at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), in Beijing, China on Tuesday said that for more Chinese development assistance to be extended to Nigeria, both countries should become active partners.

The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, has reopened after a closure for repairs on the runaway which lasted six weeks.

Authorities arrests two suspects allegedly planning attack during election in France


Judicial and police sources said on Tuesday that two men were arrested in Marseille, southern France, on suspicion of planning an attack during presidential elections which open on April 23.

The police source said authorities have been hunting the pair since on Saturday.

The source said that they were seized a few minutes apart in the southeastern port city.

A 34-year-old woman, Ada Ikart, on Tuesday appeared in an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly beating her neighbour, Justina Oke, and used a razor blade to cut her finger.

Ikart, a resident of Baba Sule Str. Ajegunle, Apapa in Lagos, is standing trial on a charge of assault.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Olusegun Kokoye, told the court that the accused committed the offence on December 24, 2016, at her residence.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Intelligence Response Team (IRT) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, has arrested a ‘high-profile thief’ identified as Augustine Joseph, who specialises in impersonating journalists to steal gadgets and defraud dignitaries at events.

The suspect who posed as an employee of Linda Ikeji blog, with an identity card bearing the name Michael Mordi, was arrested and paraded last week for robbing unsuspecting members of public of their belongings at public events.

Five Occupants of Osborne Towers Where EFCC Discovered N13 Billion Under Probe


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is on the trail of some high-profile tenants of the Osborne towers where it found $43.4 million, £27,000 and N23 million at House 6, Apartment 7B, The Nation reveals. So far, four of the tenants have been quizzed while a petition is pending against the fifth.

According to the report, the building, it was learnt, had been under surveillance because of the tenants. Sources said a whistle-blower alerted the EFCC about the apartment in which the huge cash was recovered. When the EFCC moved in, a source said, it was unaware that the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) had a Safe Apartment there.

Troops rescue 1,623 persons held captives by Boko Haram


Nigerian troops of 3 Battalion, 22 Brigade Nigerian Army on Operation LAFIYA DOLE, assisted by ten civilian JTF, rescued a total of 1,623 persons held captive by members of the Boko Haram terrorists group. 

According to a statement released last night by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Usman, the successful rescue operation was based on information received, yesterday by the troops by the civilian JTF intimating them to act for the safety of the captives.

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has blasted the state Governor, Nyesom Wike; his Ekiti State counterpart, Ayodele Fayose; and a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, for linking the recovered $43 million to Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

MEND wants Reps to summon Former President GEJ over Malabu oil deal


The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) on Monday hailed the decision of the House of Representatives to summon former President Goodluck Jonathan on the controversial Malabu oil deal.

Rotimi Amaechi threatens sue Fani-Kayode, Fayose’s aide


The Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has given a seven-day ultimatum to the former Aviation minister, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode; and Mr. Lere Olayinka, the media aide to Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State, to publicly apologise and pay the sum of N1.25 billion to him (Amaechi) for linking him to the seized Ikoyi N13 billion.

Amaechi had through his lawyer, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), written to Fani-Kayode and Olayinka, claiming that he (Amaechi) had been defamed by messages on the duos Twitter timeline concerning the controversy surrounding the recovered money.

Fani-Kayode in an email to newsmen said that he was not losing any sleep over Amaechi’s threat to sue and that when he gets any letter from Amaechi’s lawyer he will respond.

North Korea will continue to test missiles, a senior official has said in Pyongyang, despite international condemnation and growing military tensions with the United States.
“We’ll be conducting more missile tests on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis,” Vice Foreign Minister, Han Song-ryol, told the BBC.
He said that an “all-out war” would result if the U.S took military action.
