Erstwhile member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Haruna Yerima, has disclosed that former president Olusegun Obasanjo gave N50m bribe to every member of the fifth National Assembly who supported his third term bid.

The Borno-born former lawmaker, who stated this at the 34th Aminu Kano Annual Memorial Symposium held in Kano, revealed that while some members turned down the money, others collected it.

Troops rescue 1,623 persons held captives by Boko Haram


Nigerian troops of 3 Battalion, 22 Brigade Nigerian Army on Operation LAFIYA DOLE, assisted by ten civilian JTF, rescued a total of 1,623 persons held captive by members of the Boko Haram terrorists group. 

According to a statement released last night by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Usman, the successful rescue operation was based on information received, yesterday by the troops by the civilian JTF intimating them to act for the safety of the captives.

APC blasts Wike, Fayose, Fani-Kayode for linking Amaechi to the $43 million recovered by EFCC


The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has blasted the state Governor, Nyesom Wike; his Ekiti State counterpart, Ayodele Fayose; and a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, for linking the recovered $43 million to Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

The party in a statement issued by its Chairman, Chief Davies Ikanya, through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, described the accusation as mischievous, wicked, diabolical, evil and a desperate attempt to run down an innocent man.

MEND wants Reps to summon Former President GEJ over Malabu oil deal


The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) on Monday hailed the decision of the House of Representatives to summon former President Goodluck Jonathan on the controversial Malabu oil deal.

MEND, in an online statement issued by its Spokesperson, Jomo Gbomo, alleged that ex-President Jonathan received $200 million as kickback from the oil deal while urging the federal lawmakers to compel Jonathan’s appearance

A former governor of Benue State and serving senator of the Federal Republic, George Akume, has fired back at those criticising President Muhammadu Buhari for failing to deliver on his campaign promises.

Akume said anyone who is saying Buhari has achieved nothing since he assumed office is either blind or too myopic to see anything good about the current government.

Rotimi Amaechi threatens sue Fani-Kayode, Fayose’s aide


The Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has given a seven-day ultimatum to the former Aviation minister, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode; and Mr. Lere Olayinka, the media aide to Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State, to publicly apologise and pay the sum of N1.25 billion to him (Amaechi) for linking him to the seized Ikoyi N13 billion.

Amaechi had through his lawyer, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), written to Fani-Kayode and Olayinka, claiming that he (Amaechi) had been defamed by messages on the duos Twitter timeline concerning the controversy surrounding the recovered money.

Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, former Minister of Transportation has replied the Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi over his threat to sue him for 750 million naira.

Fani-Kayode in an email to newsmen said that he was not losing any sleep over Amaechi’s threat to sue and that when he gets any letter from Amaechi’s lawyer he will respond.

North Korea to continue missile test


North Korea will continue to test missiles, a senior official has said in Pyongyang, despite international condemnation and growing military tensions with the United States.
“We’ll be conducting more missile tests on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis,” Vice Foreign Minister, Han Song-ryol, told the BBC.
He said that an “all-out war” would result if the U.S took military action.

Popular James Bond actor dies


Actor Clifton James, who appeared as Sheriff JW Pepper in two James Bond films, has died at the age of 96. He died on Saturday due to complications from diabetes, close to his childhood home in Gladstone, Oregon.

James was best known for appearing alongside Sir Roger Moore in the Bond films Live and Let Die and The Man with the Golden Gun during the 1970s.

Seized N13bn: Tender evidence of ownership – Sagay tells Wike


Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), has asked Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State to tender tangible evidence to prove ownership of the $43.4m, £27,000 and N23m (about N13bn) uncovered in a house in Ikoyi, Lagos, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission last Wednesday.

Wike had on Friday claimed the money belonged to the Rivers State Government and that it was stolen and stashed in the Ikoyi house by his predecessor and current Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
