Obasanjo’s wife cries out over threat to her life


The wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Taiwo, has raised an alarm over plans by some people to assassinate her, following a suit she filed last month seeking to postpone the wedding between her son, Olujonwo and Miss Tope Adebutu.

Her allegations are coming four days to the hearing of the case at a Lagos High Court, before Justice Lateefa Okunnu.

Aisha Alhasan, minister of women affairs and social development, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government led by President Muhammadu Buhari has neglected members of the party in Taraba state.

Ita Enang, the senior special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on national assembly matters (senate)‎, says Nigerians should be worried if the executive and legislative arms of government “work hand in gloves”.

Addressing state house correspondents on Thursday, Enang said the disagreements ‎between the two arms of government are necessary for democracy to thrive.

He said though there could be tension between both arms, there is no indication that they are at loggerheads.‎

Members of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State who dumped the party for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have claimed that the former governor of the State, Rotimi Amaechi made them leave the party.

Many of the APC members from Asari-Toru and Degema Local Government Areas of the State who dumped the party for the PDP, claiming they had bad experience while under the leadership of Amaechi.

Lagos PDP Chairman: Fayose is biting the fingers that fed him


Segun Adewale, factional chairman of the Lagos state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused Ayodele Fayose, Ekiti state governor, of biting the fingers that fed him.

In a statement released on Thursday, Adewale said Fayose had been causing distractions in the party.

He also refuted the claim that he was plotting to unseat Fayose and replace him with Kayode Fayemi, his predecessor.

JAMB to hold mock UTME exams Saturday


The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has confirmed that candidates that registered for the 2017 computer-based Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examinations (UTME), would take mock tests tomorrow (Saturday).

JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, made the announcement at a meeting with internal stakeholders in Abuja yesterday (Thursday).

El-Rufai says North-west states as backward as Afghanistan


Nasir el-Rufai, Kaduna state governor, on Thursday, said that some states in Nigeria’s northwest region were as backward as Afghanistan.

Speaking at the Kaduna Economic and Investment Summit, he said such states were backward in terms of education, health care, and opportunities.

El-Rufai said the northern region had major challenges which its leaders have to tackle.

Police discovers an 8-year-old girl living with monkeys


An 8-year-old girl who cannot speak and behave like normal humans has been rescued by the police in India, The Times of India reported.

Police personnel in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh rescued the girl from the monkeys after one of them, a sub-inspector, who was on patrol near the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary spotted her with the monkeys.

Nigerian couple arrested for fracturing 3-month-old baby’s bones, skull in US


A Nigerian couple in the United States have been arrested after their three-month-old baby was found with fractures in his arms, legs and skulls.

Arinola Olawusi, 33, and Olalekan Olawusi, 40 were arrested in by the police in Providence, Rhode Island after officers responding to the father’s 911 call found the baby critically injured and unconscious.

Late Mrs Mary Onuekwusia, according to Austin Ejide, died in Chicago, United States of America, USA, at the age of 67 years. Although Ejide did not disclose when his mother passed away, he told newsmen that the family was making arrangements to fly her corpse back home, Agulu, Anambra State in eastern Nigeria, for burial.

A report by Premium Times has revealed that the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, has allocated a total of 95,000 seats to the State Pilgrims Welfare Boards/Agencies/Commissions, SPWB, the Armed Forces and the Private Tour Operators for the 2017 Hajj exercise.

Arms Deal: Ex-NSA, Sambo Dasuki Granted Bail Again by Abuja High Court


The incarcerated former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, was on Thursday granted bail by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday over the charge of unlawful possession of firearms and money laundering brought against him by the Federal Government.

According to Premium Times, Justice Ahmed Mohammed affirmed the bail granted by the former NSA shortly after taking Dasuki’s plea in the amended seven-count charge.

The judge said that since the prosecution counsel, Oladipo Opeseyi, did not object to the bail of the ex-NSA, the court has to affirm same.

Veteran broadcaster and former Director-General of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Patrick Ityohegh is dead.

He died at the age of 76  on Wednesday evening in Makurdi, the Benue state capital. Sympathizers are besieging the Makurdi home of the late Ityohegh.
