Our democracy under threat, Senate says as SGF shuns invitation


The Senate on Wednesday raised the alarm that the failure of the executive to answer legislative summons would end democracy in the country.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Sabi Abdullahi, stated this in an interview with The PUNCH, while reacting to a letter written by the Secretary to the Government of the  Federation, Mr. Babachir Lawal.

DRAMA! Man Pays Prostitute With Fake Currency After Having S*x With Her in Lagos


A man who dared to compensate a prostitute with fake currency after having s*x in Lagos, has gotten himself into serious trouble.

Frank Igwe, a 30-year-old man, who allegedly used some fake Nigerian currency to pay a  s*x worker for her services, was on Wednesday charged before a Yaba Chief Magistrate Court in Lagos.

According to Vanguard, the accused, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of unlawful possession of fake currency.

Governor Amosun: Wife-beaters in Ogun will be treated as criminals


The Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has declared war on men who beat their wives in the state.

The Governor on Wednesday said any man found guilty will face prosecution and be treated as criminals in the state, going forward.

Amosun gave this declaration when he spoke at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, after an advocacy walk against gender-based violence organized by Women Arise in conjunction with the state government.

A 28-year-old housewife, Olotu Chizoba, who allegedly assaulted a co-tenant by beating her to a pulp, was on Wednesday arraigned before Magistrate O. Sule-Amzat sitting at Ogudu, Lagos.

Twitter shut down 636,000 accounts


Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) said on Tuesday it had suspended 636,000 accounts since the middle of 2015 as the company steps up efforts to tackle “violent extremism” on its microblogging platform.

The company shut down a total of 376,890 accounts in the last six months of 2016, Twitter said in its latest transparency report.
