Aviation authority suspend 3 air traffic controllers for sleeping on duty in Vietnam


The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) on Wednesday suspended three air traffic controllers, including one who fell asleep while on duty, for causing delays of two flights.
“The crews on two flights of budget airline Vietjet Air, one departing for South Korea and the other arriving from the southern Ho Chi Minh City, could not contact the air traffic control.

Indian man slits 15-year-old daughter's throat in suspected ‘honour’ killing


Indian police Wednesday arrested a man for allegedly murdering his teenage daughter in a so-called honour killing after she was caught dating a local boy he did not approve of.

28-year-old housewife bites co-tenant breast, beats her to pulp

A 28-year-old housewife, Olotu Chizoba, who allegedly assaulted a co-tenant by beating her to a pulp, was on Wednesday arraigned before Magistrate O. Sule-Amzat sitting at Ogudu, Lagos.

Olotu, who resides at Bello Street, Ikosi Road in Ketu area of Lagos, is being tried for assault occasioning harm.

Nigerian allegedly planning terror attack in Germany to be deported


Germany said Tuesday it will deport two men arrested on suspicion of planning a terror attack, despite the fact that their parents are foreigners, they were both born in the country.

This is the first time in Germany’s history that such a decision has been taken, said a spokesman for the region’s interior ministry, quoted by the German news agency DPA.

Bill to prohibit tribal marks passes second reading


A Bill for an Act to provide for the Prohibition of Facial Mutilation, Offences, Prosecution and Punishment of Offenders on Tuesday passed second reading in the Senate.

The Bill is also for the Protection of victims under threat of facial mutilation and other related Matters.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said public servants and many in the private sectors who have questionable wealth are celebrated with alumni recognitions, honourary degrees, chieftaincy titles and sometimes higher religious titles in the country.

Twitter shut down 636,000 accounts


Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) said on Tuesday it had suspended 636,000 accounts since the middle of 2015 as the company steps up efforts to tackle “violent extremism” on its microblogging platform.

The company shut down a total of 376,890 accounts in the last six months of 2016, Twitter said in its latest transparency report.

INEC cancels manual transfer of 2019 results


As part of its preparations for the 2019 election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has canceled manual transmission of results from polling units.

It will now use e-Collation and Result Transmission System in all the 120, 000 polling units.

The commission opted for the new result transmission system after a three-year trial or test run during by-elections and rerun elections.

Governor Fayose demolishes three filling stations in Ekiti


There was tension in parts of Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, yesterday as three filling stations under construction were demolished allegedly on the orders of Governor Ayo Fayose.

The incident happened few hours after members of the state chapter of Petrol Dealers Association of Nigeria (PEDAN) suspended their two-day strike, following the intervention of traditional rulers.

The uncompleted filling stations were demolished for allegedly being located in residential areas.

Makarfi accuses Sheriff of plotting to hijack PDP for 2019 presidential bid


The Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has warned that the party’s court-backed National Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, cannot be trusted to conduct a convention for the PDP.

Justice Olabisi Akinlade of a Lagos state High Court sitting at Igbosere will tomorrow, deliver judgment in the case of four men who were charged with the murder of Cynthia Osokogu. Justice Akinlade had on January 12, 2017, during the adoption of the final written addresses by all the counsel in the case fixed March 23, for judgment on the case. So sad! 3-siblings electrocuted in Delta


There was pandemonium in Eku, in the Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State after three children of a woman, identified as Ms Elohor Gabriel, were electrocuted on Saturday, following a power surge in the community.

It was learnt that the children were electrocuted when the covering of the cable connecting power to their apartment burnt, and the live wire came in contact with some burglar-proof bars while the children were playing at the veranda of the house they lived in.

SSS, Police says Nigerian military ignored intelligence before deadly Boko Haram attack


Security operatives have said that Nigerian soldiers based in Magumeri village of Borno State received early warning about a deadly Boko Haram attack in the community last Wednesday.

A number of soldiers and police personnel died in the attack. The army initially said two soldiers were killed, but the Borno government said the figure was “far higher”.

At least two police personnel also died in the attack.

According to reports, many persons have been confirmed dead after three suicide bombers attacked the Gulumba temporary IDP camp which is opposite Muna garage in Borno state at about 3am today. 

NEMA officials are already on ground to rescue the victims of the attack.

The Edo State Police Command has paraded suspected killers of former Etsako east local government area chairman, Hon Suleiman Afegbua,  Pastor Godwin Akpoguenabor and Patient Omo-Osagie a business woman who were recently murdered in the state.

Briefing newsmen yesterday, the state commissioner of Police, Mr Haliru Gwandu confirmed that the former council chairman was killed by Fulani herdsmen who are already in custody and are helping in their investigation.

Senator Dino Melaye in certificate scandal


Senator Dino Melaye who is an ally of Senate President and well known for his controversial stand on national issues as well as a lasting political battle with his former friend and governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello, recently alerted Nigerians that there were plans to carry fictitious allegations against him.

Melaye thinks this move was being planned to get him to face the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) because he was a major factor that stood against the confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as chairman of the anti-corruption organisation.
