Police arrest 12 Lagos women for selling new Naira notes at parties


Police, in conjunction with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), have arrested 12 women for selling naira notes in parts of Lagos State, NewTelegraph reports.

The women were allegedly selling mint naira notes to people going to parties to ‘spray’ celebrates. They are likely to be charged for contravening Section 21 of the CBN Act, 2007.

Chelsea are unstoppable – City Coach, Pep Guardiola admits


Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has admitted that Premier League leaders Chelsea “are almost unstoppable”.

Guardiola was speaking shortly after goals from Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane, sealed a 2-0 win over Sunderland on Sunday at the Stadium of Light.

City are now eight points behind Chelsea, who travel to West Ham on Monday night.

Omateki Computer boss, Florence Seriki is dead


Founder of Omatek Computer Ventures, Mrs Florence Seriki is dead. She died at the Lagos University teaching Hospital (LUTH) after a long battle with cancer. 

Seriki was a notable entrepreneur and industrialist who started Omatek Ventures Plc, 22 years ago.

President Buhari spoke in a telephone conversation with Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State at the weekend during which the two men paid compliments to one another on what they had done in office.

Governor Bello would be the second governor President Buhari would be speaking with after his discussion with Governor Ganduje of Kano State.

Violence breaks out at pro-Trump rally in Berkeley


For the second time in a month, Berkeley was the scene of violent demonstrations as supporters of President Trump clashed with counter-protesters Saturday on the streets of the city.

At least 10 people were arrested and seven others were injured as a series of disturbances marred what was supposed to be a pro-Trump rally in the famously liberal community.

Group asks Peace Corps commandant to sue Police for arrest


A civil rights movement, Concerned Citizens for Nation Building, on Sunday condemned the arrest and detention of the National Commandant of Peace Corps of Nigeria, Dickson Akoh, by the police, advising him to “proceed to court and claim N100 billion damages.”

The youth organisation criticised the garrison manner the police acted and warned that “should it happen agains, the police will face the wrath of the Nigerian youth.”

RRS arrests three fleeing kidnap suspects


The operatives of Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command over the weekend arrested three suspected kidnappers fleeing from Ibadan in Lagos after collecting N3 million ransom.

The kidnappers, Adekunle Funsho (31), Charles Ezeilo (32) and Obioha Nnaji were apprehended in Abule Egba, Lagos, after kidnapping a lady and collecting N3 million ransom.

Sokoto government to conduct mass wedding of 100 couples


The Sokoto State Government says it will conduct a mass wedding for 100 couples in the next one month.

The state Commissioner of Religious Affairs, Alhaji Mani Katami, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Sokoto.

Katami said the government would spend N32m on the exercise.

Abuja Airport Closure: Arik Air releases new Kaduna Airport schedule


Ahead of the closure of Abuja Airport, Arik Air has released a new schedule for its Kaduna operations.

The new schedule will be operated for six weeks when the Abuja Airport is closed to traffic.

From March 8, 2017, flights into Abuja will be diverted into Kaduna Airport. The airline disclosed this in a statement yesterday in Lagos.

Federal Government extends free HIV/AIDS treatment


Minister of State for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, said the treatment of HIV will no longer favour a selected few. Meaning, HIV positive persons across the country will access free treatment.

He spoke at the official flag off of the Central Dissemination of the 2016 National Guidelines for HIV Prevention Treatment and Care in Abuja.

According to him, anyone who tests positive to HIV is automatically eligible for free treatment.

MEND says Henry Okah and others are dying in South Africa


The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, on Saturday, revealed that one of its leaders, Henry Emomotimi Okah, currently serving jail term, was dying at Korkstad Prison in the Kwa-Zulu Natai Province of South Africa. MEND is alleging that he is locked up in solitary confinement based on xenophobia and jungle justice.

African Union chairman calls Buhari, wishes him quick recovery


The Chairman of the African Union, President Alpha Conde, on Friday, called President Muhammadu Buhari on the telephone to wish him speedy recovery from his ailment.

A statement issued by the presidential media aide, Femi Adesina, said Conde called Buhari on the telephone on “to wish him good health and speedy recovery.”
