Senate confirms retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson as housing secretary


The next Trump administration Cabinet nominee up for a vote in the Senate is celebrated neurosurgeon Ben Carson. Approval is expected when senators vote Thursday on President Donald Trump's choice to lead the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Carson has no government or housing policy experience, and Democrats were critical early on about his credentials. Despite that, he won unanimous support in a Senate committee vote in January. On Wednesday, Carson cleared a Senate hurdle when lawmakers voted, 62-37, to move his nomination to a final vote.

A Nigerian software engineer, Celestine Omin claims that he was made to sit a written test by US airport immigration officers in order to prove his skills.

Omin, 28, who works with Andela, a tech start-up, landed in New York's JFK airport last Sunday after a 24-hour flight from Nigeria. He had been granted a short-term visa to work with First Access, a financial technology company in Manhattan district, New York.

Container falls off overhead bridge in Ghana, kills one (Photos)


One person has been confirmed dead in a fatal accident that involved a container loaded with bags of cement that fell off an overhead bridge in Mahama Dubai interchange in Ghana Wednesday evening. Eyewitnesses say the truck driver suffered a brake failure moments before the accident occurred.

In the first visit by a Saudi ruler in almost half a century, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud arrived in Indonesia today for a nine-day tour of the world's most populous Muslim nation. 

The King will spend a few days in Jakarta and West Java before heading to the popular tourist island of Bali on the Indonesian leg of a month-long Asia tour that's already taken him to Malaysia and which will also see him going to China, Japan and the Maldives.

I haven't watched any football match that had it penalty kick retaken as much as this... The official Olympics Twitter handle uploaded this video of a penalty kick taken during a football match. 

The way the referee kept telling the players to retake the penalty kick until a 6th attempt, I really pity for the taker. Glad he finally scored at the last attempt.

Woman conspires with friends to dump her lover's corpse in bush (Photos)


Ogun State Police Command has arrested 37-year-old Rukayat Basorun and her two friends for allegedly dumping a corpse in a bush at Mamugba Village in Ogijo community. A statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said after her lover died, Basorun allegedly connived with her friends, Omobola Shodimu and Aanu Owoade to secretly take the body to a bush where it was dumped.

The Women from Assin Fosu in the Central region of Ghana are pleading for leniency for male prison inmates in the region. Some of the women in an interview with Adom News revealed that majority of them are seriously single and are being pressured by their families to marry before the end of 2017, a situation which is now causing them to sleep with married men.

Prophet Patrick Mugadza, the leader of Kariba Church in Zimbabwe, who is alleged to have committed criminal offence by saying that President Robert Mugabe would die on October 17 this year, was further remanded in custody to next Monday 

Sometime last month, he was arrested for creating a nuisance by giving a prophecy that President Mugabe wasn't going to live to see the end of 2017.

A Ugandan newly wed couple on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, perished in a tragic road accident, just three days after their wedding on Saturday. The deceased, 28-year-old Sedrack Webale and 24-year-old Grace Namatovu were among five people who died in the accident that occurred along the Fort Portal-Kampala highway in Migongwe, Kyegegwa district.

Tragic! Domestic fire kills week-old baby


A 10-day-old Ghanaian baby was burnt to death Wednesday morning in a fire outbreak at Filling Point, a town in Tamale Northen Region. 

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Fire Service, Nicholas Poku Aikins, he said a distress call was received about a fire outbreak at the said community at exactly 8:55 am Wednesday, March 1, 2017.

Police arrest, parade leaders of Peace Corps for illegal activities (Photos)

The Nigerian Police have paraded the leaders of the Peace Corps of Nigeria for running an illegal security outfit in the country. Spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, Jimoh Moshood, who paraded them before newsmen in Abuja yesterday, said the leaders of the illegal security outfit were arrested by a joint operation with personnel from the military and department of state services on February 28th.

Zimbabwe Lawmakers suggest 8 children per family in other to increase population and ignore birth control


Lawmakers in Zimbabwe have now moved a motion urging citizens not to embrace birth control measures due to the setback to attract foreign investors because of its small population.

According to the Hansard, which provides a transcript of Zimbabwe's parliamentary debates, senators called for the Zimbabwe government to promote large families and get NGOs that have been pushing for birth control to instead 'promote family growth'.

A New York woman has been arrested for stealing a $13,000 mink coat after she posted a photo of herself wearing it on Instagram. 39-year-old Angeline Chidowore, worked at high-end clothing store, Moda Operandi and was in charge of inventory.

After the coat went missing, she denied knowing where the coat could be.

Actions which involve babies using their muscles are called motor skills. According to Wikipedia, “a motor skill is a learned sequence of movements that combine to produce a smooth, efficient action in order to master a particular task.” Generally, there are two types; Gross Motor Skills and Fine Motor Skills.

While Gross Motor Skills use large muscle groups to perform specific tasks which include movements made by the baby using his legs, arms or body such as crawling, sitting, walking, and running, Fine Motor Skills use smaller muscle groups to complete tasks. Movements made by the baby to pick things up, write, use the tongue to taste things, are a few examples.

The Police Special Force led by the IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT) has killed notorious kidnap kingpin and armed robbery suspect, Henry Chibueze alias Vampire who escaped from police custody after unknown gunmen stormed the Owerri High Court in a commando style and rescued him and two others on January 27th.

A group of Niger Delta militants have threatened to blow up major South African investments in Nigeria such as Multichoice (DSTV), MTN, Shoprite and 16 others if the Federal Government fails to shut them down within one month due to recent attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.

The coalition which consist of militants from Niger Delta Watchdogs, Niger Delta Volunteers and Niger Delta Strike Force, made the threat in a statement released yesterday.

Drama as Ambassadorial Nominee Refuses To Recite National Anthem


The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, on Wednesday, screened an 82-year-old non-career ambassadorial nominee, Justice Sylvanus Nsofor (retd.), who refused to recite the National Anthem when he was asked to do so.

The refusal by the nominee to recite the anthem had shocked members of the committee.
