President Muhammadu Buhari left Nigeria on January 19 for London to “undergo routine medical check-ups” during a short holiday scheduled to last for 10 days and was expected to resume work on February 6.
Before the expiration of the president’s 1o-day leave, rumours started circulating around the nation that he was dead. But citizens choose to keep their cool and wait patiently for the set date of his return even as the Presidency dispelled the death rumours.
However, Buhari’s Special Assistant on Media, Femi Adesina, in a statement released on Sunday, February 5, confirmed his principal had extended his vacation following an advice by his doctors to enable him to complete and receive the results of a series of tests recommended by his doctors. There was, however, no mention of when he would return to the country. This in a way confirmed that though the president was not dead, he was not in good health.
