Policeman dismissed 8-years ago continued work at Lagos command


A former policeman, Adeh Ada, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly parading himself as a cop in the state, eight years after his dismissal.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Ada, who was attached to the Mopol 11 in Calabar, Cross River State, was dismissed sometime in February 2009, for losing his firearm.

Assemblies of God church crisis gets messier despite Supreme Court ruling


Rev. Chidi Okoroafor, Rev. Paul Emeka has maintained that he remains the General Superintendent, GS, of Assemblies of God Church, Nigeria despite the Supreme Court striking out his appeal against his rival.

This came as the GS of the church, Reverend Chidi Okoroafor, said the three-year leadership crisis that engulfed the church should not have been taken to court, but resolved internally.

Minister of Works inaugurates N1.1bn emergency repairs on Abuja-Kaduna Road


Mr Babatunde Fashola, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, on Tuesday in Kaduna inaugurated the N1.1 billion emergency repair project on Abuja-Kaduna Road.

Fashola, who commended the contractor for completing the project on scheduled, said the project was awarded on Jan. 7 with completion period of 50 days.

The minister, represented by Mr Yemi Oguntominiyi, the Director of Highway Construction and Rehabilitation in the ministry, said the emergency repair was necessitated by the planned closure of Abuja Airport.

Panic among passengers as Medview Airline flight develops fault mid air


A Medview Airline flight took off from Lagos for Abuja today but developed a fault soon after take-off, causing the plane to return to the Lagos Airport.

The plane with flight number VL 2102 was airborne, carrying 105 people; passengers and crew members inclusive, when the fault was noticed.

Toyota Set To Roll Out Its Made In Nigeria Cars At Lagos Factory Within The Next Couple Of Months


Japanese automobile giant Toyota plans to roll out its first made in Nigeria cars within the next few months as part of an ambitious plan step up its presence in the market and dramatically increase its share of automobiles sold.

Chief Michael Ade-Ojo, chairman of Toyota Nigeria, said that the first set of Nigeria-assembled Toyota cars will be rolled out in a couple of months. He spoke in Lagos at the unveiling of an automobile assembling plant dedicated to the production of two vehicle brands Toyota and JAC, with a target of 15,000 vehicles yearly.

Nigeria internet users declined to 91.2m in January – NCC


The number of internet users in Nigeria’s telecommunications networks declined to 91, 274,446 in January, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said.

The NCC made the disclosure in its Monthly Internet Subscribers Data for January 2017 on its website on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to the data released, internet users dropped to 91,274,446 in January as against 91,880.032 users recorded in December 2016, showing a decline of 605,586.

NEPAD targets to provide electricity for 80% Nigerians by 2040


The New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) says it was targeting to electrify 80 per cent household in Nigeria by 2040.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal made this known, on Tuesday, in Abuja, at the launch of the NEPAD stakeholders meeting on Skills Initiative for Africa on Youth empowerment.

He said that the Federal Government was partnering with NEPAD to achieve this target

Cleric urges Christians to pray for economic revival during Lent


The parish priest of Christ the King Catholic Church, Enugu, Fr. Theodore Ozoamalu, has urged Nigerians to use the Lenten period to pray for the revival of the nation’s economy.

The priest said this in Enugu on Tuesday ahead of the Lenten season that every Christian should engage in fervent prayers to save the country from the current economic recession.

The cleric noted that it was only through prayers and supplication devoid of sins that the country would come out of its economic challenges.

Nigerian economy shrinks in 2016 for the first time in 25 years


Nigeria’s economy shrank for a fourth consecutive quarter in the three months through December and contracted for the whole year, the first such move since 1991.

Gross domestic product in Africa’s most-populous country declined 1.3 percent in the quarter from a year earlier, after shrinking 2.2 percent in the previous three months, the National Bureau of Statistics said in an e-mailed statement Tuesday. The median of 10 economist estimates compiled by Bloomberg was for the economy to shrink by 1.4 percent. GDP contracted 1.5 percent for all of 2016. It was the first full-year drop in 25 years, according to International Monetary Fund data.

South Africa Govt deports 97 Nigerians for committing various offences

 

The South African Government has deported 97 Nigerians for committing various offences in the country.

The deportees landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Monday night in a chartered aircraft with the registration number GBB710 from Johannesburg.

They were made up of 95 males and two females.

Primate Ayodele says Buhari will be back in approximately three months


Primate Babatunde Ayodele, founder and general overseer of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has revealed that he received a prophecy from God about when president Buhari will return to the country and also where Nigeria's next president will come from, saying that it will neither be from PDP nor APC.

While speaking to reporters yesterday, Primate Ayodele revealed that Buhari will return to the country in approximately three months, however, he will be unable to properly fulfill his duties as president due to his failing health.

A car drove into a crowd of people at a Mardi Gras parade in Alabama on Tuesday, CBS affiliate WKRG reports.
