Goodluck Jonathan didn’t endorse Sheriff - Aide


The Office of former President Goodluck Jonathan media has refuted reports that the ex-President on Monday endorsed Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Dr. Jonathan’s media aide, Mr. Ikechukwu Eze, said in a statement, Tueday, that the issue of endorsement never came up in the course of the visit,“at the closed door meeting with Sheriff nor during the former President’s interview with newsmen.” Mr. Eze said that the reported endorsement was mischievous.

A 24-hour curfew has been imposed by the Governor Nasir El Rufai-led Kaduna State Security Council in Jema’a and Kaura Local Government Areas of Kaduna State with immediate effect.

In a statement signed by Samuel Aruwan, Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity on Tuesday said imposing a curfew in the affected LGAs became necessary to protect lives and properties and to avoid the further breakdown of law and order.

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has added Adeyinka Asekun, a banker, to the list of 46 non-career ambassadorial nominees currently being considered by the Senate.

Senate President Bukola Saraki read Mr. Osinbajo’s letter conveying Mr. Asekun’s name at plenary on Tuesday.

President Muhammadu Buhari, who has been in the United Kingdom on an extended medical vacation since January 19, had on January 12 resubmitted a list of 46 nominees to the Senate, two months after the first one was rejected.

A witness in the corruption trial of Justice Adeniyi Ademola has alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari gave the embattled judge N500,000 while his certificate controversy was pending before Mr. Ademola.

Some persons had filed a suit challenging Mr. Buhari’s candidacy prior to the 2015 elections, alleging the president had no secondary school certificate as required by law.

Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja has fixed February 22, 2017 for “hearing without fail” in a money laundering charge brought against Olisa Metuh, former spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The decision of the judge was as a result of the “passionate plea” by Tochukwu Onwugbufor, SAN, a defence counsel, who appealed for an adjournment due to absence of lead counsel for the defence, Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN.

Ikpeazu had sent a letter to the trial judge notifying him of his inability to attend the sitting as he was “involved in another criminal case at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court”.

DPR Seizes Vessel With 1.5m Litres Of Contaminated Petrol


The management of Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has seized a vessel MT JAZI loaded with 1. 5 million of contaminated petroleum product.

The product was being discharged at the Nakem Jetty, Kirikiri, Lagos.

Mr Mordecai Ladan, director, DPR who disclosed this yesterday in Lagos said the vessel was intercepted on Feb 11 while discharging at Nakam jetty.

Ladan, who was represented by Mr Wole Akinmosoye, Zonal Operations Controllers, Lagos of DPR said that after much investigations by DPR it was discovered that the vessel did not have DPR authorization to deliver product at the depot.

High Court Rules Out Adegoruwa’s Suit Against Magu’s Confirmation


Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of a Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday stroke out the suit filed by Lagos lawyer, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, challenging the continued stay in office of the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.

The judge took the decision after Adegboruwa’s lawyer; Tayo Oyetibo (SAN) sought the leave of the court to withdraw the suit.

Adegboruwa had dragged Magu before the court, praying it to restrain Magu, from further parading himself as acting chairman of the commission.

17-year-old Indian boy wakes up on the way to his own funeral


A 17-year-old boy woke up on the way to his funeral surprising his relatives and villagers who had presumed him dead. He was rushed to a private hospital where his condition is critical.

Bitten by a stray dog one month ago, Kumar Marewad, 17, had high fever last week following which he was admitted to a Dharwad hospital. As his condition deteriorated, the teenager was put on ventilator.

The doctors told Kumar's relatives that he was critical and that he would not survive if life support was removed. Informing them that infection had spread in Kumar's body, the doctors left the family to decide if they wanted to continue treatment. Later, the family decided to shift him home.

Senate to EFCC: Probe CBN, NNPC officials for money laundering


The Senate on Monday urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe Central Bank of Nigeria and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) officials over alleged laundering of foreign exchange.

Members of the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes said this when the Acting Chairman, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu appeared before the lawmakers to defend the 2017 budget.

According to the committee, the EFCC should focus on prevention of financial crimes rather than go after for public officials.

Federal Government summons South African High Commissioner over renewed #Xenophobic Attacks


The Federal Government on Monday summoned the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ambassador Lulu Mnguni over the recent attacks on Nigerians ad Nigerian-owned businesses.

In a statement on Monday, the ministry of Foreign Affairs said Nigerians and other Africans have been targets in renewed xenophobic attacks.

The statement read, “The Nigerian Government strongly urges the South African Government to take the strongest measures to protect the lives and property of foreigners living in South Africa and also to quickly bring to justice the perpetrators of these heinous crimes.

Shakiru added that after hiding her remains in different uncompleted buildings in Lagos, he fled to Ibadan, Oyo State.

A team from the Ijora Badia Police Division, led by the Operations Officer, ASP Talabi Segun, recovered Sherifat’s head and neck in Morocco, Yaba, while other parts of her body were recovered in another uncompleted building on Moshalashi Street, Somolu.

Unknown gunmen abduct Army Lieutenant in Lagos


A lieutenant of the Nigerian Army has been kidnapped by suspected militants at Abule Ado area of FESTAC, Tribune reports.

The lieutenant who has been simply identified as Lieutenant Diya was yet to be released on Monday night.

It was gathered that the lieutenant led a team of soldiers to patrol the FESTAC area on Saturday, when heavily armed men attacked them.
