Osun court sentenced two men to death by hanging for armed robbery


An Iwo High Court Judge in Osun, Justice Moshood Adeigbe, on Monday sentenced two men, Sunday Ishaih, and his friend, Akeem Lamidi, to death by hanging for armed robbery.

The duo were arraigned earlier on a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit robbery and armed robbery

Adeigbe in his ruling said that the state prosecutor had proven his case beyond any reasonable doubt.

He said that it was established that the duo committed the robbery offences.

Ghana’s former President, Jerry John Rawlings, has bemoaned Nigerians praying for President Muhammadu Buhari’s death.

Partizan Belgrade's Brazilian midfielder Everton Luiz left the field in tears yesterday after being racially abused by supporters of local city rivals Rad.

Luiz, 28, was jeered and taunted with monkey noises every time he touched the ball and some Rad fans unfurled a banner insulting the Brazilian towards the end of the game.

Osinbajo meets governors, ministers over rice, wheat


The Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Monday presided over a meeting of the Presidential Task Force on Rice and Wheat as part of Federal Government’s efforts aimed at food security.

Those who attended the meeting included four state governors -Abubakar Bagudu (Kebbi); Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano); Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa) and Dave Umahi (Ebonyi).

The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun; Minister of Agricluture, Audu Ogbeh; and the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, also attended.

Nigeria Central Bank announces new foreign exchange policy


The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has released a new foreign exchange policy in the country with immediate effect.

The new policy is sequel to last Thursday’s directive by the National Economic Council, NEC, for immediate review to stem the widening gap between the inter-bank foreign exchange and parallel market rates.

An angry man left a group of mourners in shock after he pounced on his neighbor's corpse, giving it serious beatings, after finding out he had slept with his wife.

According to reports, a Zimbabwean man identified as Tineyi Moyo, beat up the corpse of Learnmore Dube, who he claims had an affair with his wife before his death.

A 24-year-old female television worker, Emma Hulse, has claimed she was sacked from her job because she was ‘too good looking’.

MirrorUK reports that Miss Hulse who was hired as a freelance runner, claims production firm UNIT TV, located in Soho, told her to go home during a shift because ‘she should be on a catwalk’. She was however sent a message by her agent barely five minutes after starting work telling her she was ‘no longer required’.

Budget: We won’t allow Buhari to be humiliated - Yakubu Dogara

 

Nigerian lawmakers will give maximum support to President Muhammadu Buhari and ensure that his government is not humiliated in the ongoing deliberations over the 2017 proposed budget, Speaker Yakubu Dogara said Monday.

Mr. Dogara said the National Assembly took this decision because most of its members and Mr. Buhari all belong to the same political party, the All Progressives Congress.
“I must say that the APC as the party with majority in the National Assembly will not allow Mr. President and the APC as the ruling political party to be humiliated or defeated on its budget priorities as we are all part of the same government,” Mr. Dogara said.

1 Have Robbed 35 ATM Users In Alaba Rago, Suspect Tells Police


A twenty-five-year-old armed robbery suspect has told operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command how his gang robbed about 35 Automated Teller Machine (ATM) users in Alaba Rago Market, Ojo area of Lagos.

Gbenga Babatunde, who was arrested after a failed bid to rob a lady, who withdrew an unspecified amount of money around 5:48a.m. at an ATM point in Alaba Rago Market, was chased by the operatives patrolling the area, during which a ‘cut-to-size’ locally-made short gun with two live cartridges were recovered from him, the police said.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode Moves To Renovate National Stadium Lagos


Lagos State government has expressed its willingness to renovate the National Stadium Surulere, Lagos. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode made the state’s intent known when he paid a condolence and courtesy visit to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, at his residence in Abuja at the weekend.
“I will like to bring the National Stadium to life. The last time a game was played there was in 2005. There is also the employment aspect of football and hosting of matches at the stadium. That includes the jerseys, branding, mama put, the sign writers, the supporters, merchandising, and so on. We want to bring back the football culture of Lagos State to the National Stadium after its renovation,” Ambode said.

Emir of Kano Plans To Stop Poor Men From Marrying More Than One Wife


The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has stated that he may soon propose a law, which would stop poor men in the emirate from marrying more than one wife.

Sanusi made this disclosure in Abuja on Sunday at the 50th anniversary of the death of Ambasador Isa Wali, a former Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana.

Motorists Groan As Contractors Abandon Third Mainland Bridge


The Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA, has come under heavy criticism from Lagos residents  over the abandonment of the repair works in the Third Mainland Bridge and other adjoining roads.

The agency, last month had begun repairs on both carriage ways of the Bridge, scrapping the asphalt on some section of the bridge, but had vacated site for over two weeks, leaving motorists to contend with the current bad state of the road.

Motorists had attributed several accidents on the Bridge in recent times to the uncoordinated method through which FERMA was carrying out the repair works.
