A 24-year-old female television worker, Emma Hulse, has claimed she was sacked from her job because she was ‘too good looking’.

MirrorUK reports that Miss Hulse who was hired as a freelance runner, claims production firm UNIT TV, located in Soho, told her to go home during a shift because ‘she should be on a catwalk’. She was however sent a message by her agent barely five minutes after starting work telling her she was ‘no longer required’.

Budget: We won’t allow Buhari to be humiliated - Yakubu Dogara

 

Nigerian lawmakers will give maximum support to President Muhammadu Buhari and ensure that his government is not humiliated in the ongoing deliberations over the 2017 proposed budget, Speaker Yakubu Dogara said Monday.

Mr. Dogara said the National Assembly took this decision because most of its members and Mr. Buhari all belong to the same political party, the All Progressives Congress.
“I must say that the APC as the party with majority in the National Assembly will not allow Mr. President and the APC as the ruling political party to be humiliated or defeated on its budget priorities as we are all part of the same government,” Mr. Dogara said.

1 Have Robbed 35 ATM Users In Alaba Rago, Suspect Tells Police


A twenty-five-year-old armed robbery suspect has told operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command how his gang robbed about 35 Automated Teller Machine (ATM) users in Alaba Rago Market, Ojo area of Lagos.

Gbenga Babatunde, who was arrested after a failed bid to rob a lady, who withdrew an unspecified amount of money around 5:48a.m. at an ATM point in Alaba Rago Market, was chased by the operatives patrolling the area, during which a ‘cut-to-size’ locally-made short gun with two live cartridges were recovered from him, the police said.

NSCDC Apprehend Two Men For Allegedly r*ping Of 14-year-old Girl


Officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), have arrested two men-Mohammed Abubakar,22, (a.k.a A3) and Adamu Umar, 25, for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl in Niger.

The suspects are commercial vehicle drivers at Kasuwan Gwari Motor Park, in Chanchaga local government area of Niger.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode Moves To Renovate National Stadium Lagos


Lagos State government has expressed its willingness to renovate the National Stadium Surulere, Lagos. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode made the state’s intent known when he paid a condolence and courtesy visit to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, at his residence in Abuja at the weekend.
“I will like to bring the National Stadium to life. The last time a game was played there was in 2005. There is also the employment aspect of football and hosting of matches at the stadium. That includes the jerseys, branding, mama put, the sign writers, the supporters, merchandising, and so on. We want to bring back the football culture of Lagos State to the National Stadium after its renovation,” Ambode said.

Emir of Kano Plans To Stop Poor Men From Marrying More Than One Wife


The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has stated that he may soon propose a law, which would stop poor men in the emirate from marrying more than one wife.

Sanusi made this disclosure in Abuja on Sunday at the 50th anniversary of the death of Ambasador Isa Wali, a former Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana.

Walei died on active duty on February 19, 1967.

According to the royal father, he had been able to establish a connection between polygamy, poverty and terrorism.

Motorists Groan As Contractors Abandon Third Mainland Bridge


The Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA, has come under heavy criticism from Lagos residents  over the abandonment of the repair works in the Third Mainland Bridge and other adjoining roads.

The agency, last month had begun repairs on both carriage ways of the Bridge, scrapping the asphalt on some section of the bridge, but had vacated site for over two weeks, leaving motorists to contend with the current bad state of the road.

Motorists had attributed several accidents on the Bridge in recent times to the uncoordinated method through which FERMA was carrying out the repair works.

Man sets house on fire in Oyo kills eight-month old baby and three other children


Police in Oyo state have arrested a man who allegedly set his family house on fire, while the occupants were asleep. Five members of the family, four of them children, including an eight month old baby, died.

The incident happened in Budo Alaka village in Kisi area of Oyo State around 2.35 a.m on Sunday.

SP Adekunle Ajisebutu, the Oyo Police Public Relations Officer said five persons, namely Blessing Samuel Ode (3), Friday Samuel Ode ( 8 months), Mummy Ogbada ‘f’ (10), Daddy Ogbada (6) and Ogunma Ogbada (46) were burnt to death.

A Zimbabwean woman, wife of a prison guard, who had had enough of her husband’s cheating last Saturday night took matters into her hands and burnt his car that was parked at a friend’s house while her man was bedding his girlfriend.

The Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Services officer was identified as Edmore Mafuya.

Mafuya’s wife is alleged to have ‘set surveillance mechanisms’ on her skirt chasing husband whom she had been having marital disputes with for years.

So sad! 200 level UNIABUJA student dies after car knocked her down as she fled from robbers (Photo)


A 200 level student from the History and Diplomatic department of the University of Abuja was reportedly found dead last night in front of the school's permanent site gate.

According to a Facebook user, the deceased was coming to school from home when she was attacked by armed robbers. In a bid to get away from them, she mistakenly ran to the road and was hit by a car.

Buhari opts for dialogue, drops military option against Niger Delta


President Muhammadu Buhari has dropped the idea of using the military in the troubled Niger Delta region, The Punch reports.

He has therefore endorsed the ongoing dialogue of Acting President Yemi Osinbajo in the region, which has so far taken him to Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa and Imo states.

A top government official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, on Sunday, confirmed this to some journalists in Abuja on Sunday.

According to the official, Buhari and Osinbajo held a series of meeting early this year where they resolved that the Federal Government should embrace the oil-producing communities by encouraging their leaders and traditional rulers, who met the President last year.

Telecom Companies may block WhatsApp, Skype calls to generate more revenue


Telecommunications companies in the country may result in blocking calls made on Instant Messaging applications, WhatsApp and Skype in other to boost their revenue.

According to The Punch, the telecoms companies seek to address their loss on international calls and are targeting a revenue of N20trn.

This development may also prevent subscribers from performing certain functions like voice and video calls on WhatsApp and Facebook, among other Over-the-Top services.

Federal Government owes 105,920 retirees N705BN - Pencom


The National Pension Commission (PenCom) says the Federal Government owes 105,920 retirees about N705 billion.

This is contained in a memorandum submitted by the Director-General, National Pension Commission (PenCom), Ms Chinelo Anohu-Amazu, to the National Assembly Joint Committee on Appropriations.

According to the organisation, the Federal Government owes its 2016 retirees N73.1 billion while N113 billion is required for the 2017 retirees.
