CBN Orders Banks to Give Customers N375 Per Dollar for School Fees, Medicals


The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will soon increase the disbursement of forex to meet demands for payment of school fees for Nigerian students abroad, medical expenses, personal and business travel allowances.

According to Leadership the apex bank will henceforth give weekly allocations of $1million to Deposit Money Banks (DMB) in the country, while the banks would be expected to sell to their customers at the rate of N375 per dollar.

The National Economic Council (NEC) had on Thursday, February 16, urged the CBN to immediately review the exchange policy.

How Woman Dived Out of Window To Save Her Baby During Lagos Canal Bus Crash


More accounts have emerged on the events leading to the crash of a 59-passenger luxury bus on its way from Aba, Abia State, which plunged into a canal at Owode Elede, Lagos, killing three passengers and injuring 23 others.

One of the passengers in the bus, Kenneth Ohai, said as the bus hit the median around 3am on Friday morning and veered off the road, nosediving into the canal in the process, the little child his co-passenger was carrying on her lap bounced off the window and fell into the water.

He said the woman immediately dived out of the window to save her baby. Saturday PUNCH confirmed from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency that the unidentified woman and her child were unharmed, as they were both rescued after.

Benue State | 11 Drunk People Feared Death in Fatal Boat Mishap


At least 11 persons reportedly lost their lives yesterday when a boat they were traveling in capsized at Kaambe crossing point at Gbajimba in Guma local government area of Benue State.

Guma is the home town of Governor Samuel Ortom of the All Progressives Congress.

The Sole Administrator of the council, Mr. Anthony Shawon who made this known in Makurdi, said the boat which was conveying the victims who were mourners was overloaded when the incident happened.

He attributed the cause of the mishap to heavy wind, adding that most of the victims who were heavily drunk at the time of the accident refused to heed advise of the boat paddlers that the passengers be ferried in batches.

Nigerian Students Poetry Prize (NSPP) is an initiative of Poets in Nigeria (PIN) designed to stimulate creativity, promote literary excellence and broaden the concept of intellectualism among Nigerian undergraduates in Nigeria and the Diaspora.

Unarguably the nation’s foremost poetry platform for students, the maiden edition of the prize was inaugurated in 2016 and received 320 entries from 64 tertiary institutions.

The 2nd edition of the prize opens to submissions from 16th February to 15th April, 2017. Winners will be announced exactly a month thereafter.

According to a facebook user, the Enugu state police command and a private school conspired in arresting their school pupils because they failed in the primary Assignments given to them.

The Facebook user identified as Nkem Beluchi said the school, Early Dew Montessori Primary School located in GRA Enugu, arrested some of their pupils who are between 4 to 7 years old. The police in the state were called and the pupils were put behind a Hilux vehicle provided by the police.

Malaysian Government refuse to release the body of Kim Jong-Nam without family DNA


Despite the request to release the body of Kim Jong-Nam, the assassinated half-brother of North Korea's leader, the Malaysian government has revealed that they will not grant the request until his family have provided DNA samples.

So far no family member or next of kin has come to identify or claim the body. We need a DNA sample of a family member to match the profile of the dead person. North Korea has submitted a request to claim the body, but before we release the body we have to identify who the body belongs to, Selangor state police chief Abdul Samah Mat told AFP.

School ordered to readmit student who was suspended for drawing 'demonic' art


Bahati Boys High School in Nakuru county, Kenya has been ordered to re-admit a student expelled over a drawing he made that was  described 'demonic.' Ian Mwaura Njenga, a form four student was expelled on Monday, February 13, 2017. His expulsion letter signed by Principal Patrick Ombok read: 
'He has drawings which are suggestive that he is owing allegiance to some faith'.

The renewed wave of religious intolerance was on Monday, February 13, 2017 re-enacted in Abuja when arsonists, suspected to be Islamic fundamentalists, set ablaze a church building belonging to the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG.

The arsonists, whose number could not be ascertained, also reportedly carted away the church’s properties worth millions of naira.

The incident, according to eyewitnesses, took place in the early hours of Monday at the Root of David Area Headquarters of the RCCG, in Apiawe, DeiDei, a suburb of Abuja.

Man charged with kidnapping, trafficking a minor for sexual exploitation


A notorious Kenyan businessman from Nairobi has been charged with kidnapping and trafficking an underage girl to a neighboring country for sexual exploitation. The suspect, Abdi Hassan Mamad who appeared at a Magistrate court in Nairobi was charged with twice kidnapping of a 16-year-old form school girl to Ethiopia.

During a recent court hearing, the prosecutor said street boys were used to kidnaping the girl at Eastleigh while on her way from School and drove her to Ethiopia last September 2016.

According to him, the girl whose name was withheld was later found by Ethiopian security agents in Adis Ababa.

German parents advise destroying new talking dolls over hacking fears


The Federal Network Agency, an official watchdog that oversees telecommunication in Germany has urged parents to destroy and boycott a talking doll called 'Cayla' over hacking fear. The warning by Germany's Federal Network Agency came after Stefan Hessel, a student from the University of Saarland, raised legal concerns about the doll 'My Friend Cayla.'

Gambian president, Adama Barrow to be officially inaugurated today


Today February 18, 2017, Gambian president, Adama Barrow will be officially sworn in at the Independence Stadium in the capital, Banjul. The inauguration will be tied with the Gambia’s 52nd Independence Day celebration.

Landlady, daughters arraigned in court for pouring hot water on tenant in Ghana


Four members of a family who allegedly poured hot water on a tenant have been arraigned in court.

The culprits, Adwoa Kumaniwaa 60, Gifty Mensah 35, Hagar Mensah 31, Irene Appiah 16 recently appeared at the Kade District Magistrate Court for pouring hot water on a tenant, Elizabeth Gyamfuaa after assaulting her at Akyem Wenchi in the Eastern Region.

The victim has since been discharged from the Akyem Wenchi Salvation Army Health Centre.

Narrating the sad incident to the Mirror, a police source said that Gyamfuaa rented a room belonging to Kumaniwaa at Sanaahene, a suburb of Akyem Wenchi.
