Photos: IDPs are allegedly been fed with spoilt beans in Borno state


Facebook user, Yaga Allen claims that some IDPs at Teachers Village IDP camp in Borno state, were given these spoilt beans to cook and eat yesterday. According to him, the IDPs were given the spoilt beans on Wednesday and Thursday. Corroborating this claim is Chibok leader and spokesperson, Manasseh Alleh, who visited the camp and shared photos of the IDPs with the rotten beans.

Bobby Joe Washington, returned a mortuary van after he found a dead body at the back.

The 24-year-old car thief stole a parked van, with the keys left inside by the driver who checked into Chicago Avenue morgue in Riverside to pick up a paperwork, around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

He, however, returned the van and stole a second vehicle, after he found a fresh corpse in it.

EFCC arraigns 'smiling' Internet fraudster in court


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, February 16, 2017, arraigned one Adetoro Fisayo Femi (a.k.a Bawa Mohammed Sanni) before Justice F. A. Odubanjo of the Federal High Court of Ondo State sitting in Akure, on a 6-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence, conspiracy, forgery, uttering of forged documents, retaining the proceed of crime and money laundering.

Adetoro however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him. In view of his plea, prosecution counsel, Oluwatoyin Owodunni prayed the court for a trial date and for the remand of the defendant in prison custody. However, counsel to the defendant, A.O. Oyibanji informed the court of a pending application for bail served on the prosecution today.

EFCC arraigns man, others for $1m fraud


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned one Bashir Ishaq Bashir alongside his companies, Leda Greenpower Consortium, Leda Greenpower Nigeria Limited and Leda Consortium Limited before Justice S.E. Aladetoyinbo of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court, Maitama, on a three-count charge of obtaining by false pretence and cheating to the tune of $1 million.

Bashir was alleged to have collected the said sum as part payment of a $3 million agreement from Althani Investments Company Limited for the purpose of forming a consortium to bid for shares at the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company. The bidding failed and several attempts made by the company for a refund of the money proved abortive.

According to Ifere Paul, one of the robbers was arrested by police last week and later was released by the police even after he was captured with a gun and live bullets.

China jails former Supreme court judge for life over corruption charges


A Chinese court on Thursday jailed for life Xi Xiaoming, a former senior judge Supreme People’s Court, after finding him guilty of corruption, state media said.

According to the report, Xi, is the latest official to fall foul of a sweeping crackdown on graft.

A former vice president of the Supreme People’s Court, was put under investigation in 2015.

He was one of the most senior judicial officials ousted by President Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption campaign since the downfall of Zhou Yongkang, the former domestic security chief whose brief included law enforcement and courts.

Vitamin D can protect against colds, flu


Taking extra vitamin D can protect against colds, flu and other respiratory infections, said a study Thursday which reopened a debate on the usefulness of over-the-counter supplements.

A review of 25 clinical trials in 14 countries, some with conflicting results, yielded “the first definitive evidence” of a link between vitamin D and flu prevention, researchers claimed in The BMJ medical journal.

The effects were strongest for people with very low levels of the nutrient which is found in some foods and can be synthesised by the body when the skin is exposed to ultraviolet light.

Many people, especially in grey, cloudy climes, do not have enough vitamin D.

The desire to acquire tertiary education before marriage had made most females in Borno to prefer enrolling in Polytechnics and Colleges of Education instead of universities, some education stakeholders in the state have observed.
