#EdoDecides: Tribunal Releases Results Of Recounted Ballot Papers

The Edo State Election Petitions Tribunal has released results of the recounted ballot papers used for the September 28 governorship election.

In its ruling on February 9, 2017, the three-man tribunal headed by Justice Ahmed Badamasi granted the prayers of the People’s Democratic Party and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu by ordering the recount of ballot papers in Egor, Akoko-Edo, Etsako West and Etsako East local government areas.

The APC won in all the four local government areas where the ballot papers were recounted.

Why President Buhari's Driver Deserves a Reward - Hajj Commission Boss, Abdullahi

Speaking on Tuesday during a presentation at the federal capital, Abuja, Abdullahi Muhammad, the executive chairman of National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), said that  President Muhammadu Buhari’s driver, Saidu Afaka, who returned lost items during the 2016 hajj in Saudi Arabia, will be rewarded for his honesty.

While presenting the lost items to Shehu Barwa, the executive secretary, Niger Pilgrims Welfare Board, Muhammad said Afaka found and returned to the commission, a bag containing $400, N60,370, 149 Saudi Riyals and a cell phone belonging to Adamu Umar, a Niger state pilgrim.

Senate President Saraki Lands in London to Visit President Buhari

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki has landed in London and is scheduled to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari in London on Wednesday. He is to be joined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara who is still on his way to London.

According to a report by TheCable, other members of the legislature including Yusuf Lasun, deputy speaker, and Ahmed Lawan, senate leader are expected in London to visit the President.

Two siblings have been docked at an Apapa Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday on a two-count of conspiracy and assault.

The broters were docked for allegedly beating their elder brother to a pulp in broad daylight.

According to Punch Metro, the accused, Adetola Sobowale, 36, and Adeleye Sobowole, 29, both residents of Jakande Housing Estate, Isolo, Lagos, allegedly committed the offences on January 24 at No. 19, Rhoda Crescent, Apapa.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Tony Elibeh, told the court that the accused allegedly conspired and assaulted their elder brother, Adetoyese Sobowale.

Banker Uses Fake Bank Alert SMS to Swindle Customer N250,000 in Lagos

A banker with one of the new generation banks has been arrested and charged to court for defrauding N250,000 from a customer using forged bank alert text message. The banker identified as Christopher Ademola, 49, was on Wednesday arraigned at a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The accused is being tried on a four-count charge bordering on fraud, forgery, theft and impersonation.

The Prosecutor, ASP. Richard Odigie, said the accused committed the offences on Jan. 21 at about 10:00 a.m. at Okesuna Street on Lagos Island.

Three people have dropped dead after they reportedly drank palm wine mixed with a concoction at Ilepa Quarters in Ikare Akoko, the headquarters of the Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State on Saturday.

The victims were said to have taken the palm wine in the house of a friend of theirs, identified as Azeez who allegedly prepared the drink while celebrating his birthday, reports Punch.

A source narrated that the palm wine allegedly contained some substances called gegemu and maladol. The substances were reportedly mixed with the palm wine in order to intoxicate the consumers.

The House of Representatives on Wednesday lost one of its member, Hon Bello Mashi Sani, (APC), representing Mashi/Dvisi federal constituency of Katsina state.

Announcing the death, the Speaker of the House, Hon Yakubu Dogara in a statement described the late Sani as humane, principled and a cosmopolitan who interacted freely with all members.

“With great sadness, I receive the news of the death of Hon. Bello Sani, who represented Mashi/Dvisi federal constituency of Katsina state,” Dogara said in a statement.

Vicky told Vanguard:

“I also gave the regular (daily) for N50.00 and sports newspaper for N20.00 to those who came here to read and return the paper and still sold the paper to those who wanted to buy.”
