Trump's daughter, Ivanka sparks controversy on social media by sitting on president's seat


Ivanka Trump, daughter of US President Donald Trump has thrown the social media into frenzy after posting a photo of herself seated at the Oval Office desk while her father, President Trump, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, stood on either side of her.

The first daughter posted the picture on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook with the message, "A great discussion with two world leaders about the importance of women having a seat at the table!"

Nigerians are suffering under Buhari – FHRACC


A group known as the Foundation for Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Crusade, FHRACC, has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to wake up and face the reality of governance.

The group noted that the hardship being experienced by Nigerians under the current government led by President Muhammadu Buhari was becoming unbearable.

FHRACC slammed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Lawal Babachir for hailing those who staged pro-government protest on Tuesday.

The group said Lawal’s comment was a clear indication that the federal government was till playing politics with national issues.

Speaking during a budget defence session at the national Assembly, the Chairman of the senate committee on Culture and Tourism, Mathew Urhoghide, also queried Mohammed over alleged misappropriation of funds under his leadership.

Urhoghide described as unfortunate the report that the ministry presented only N620,000 as total revenue generated in 2016.

1.7 million candidates to sit 2017 UTME


The Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has said 1.7 million candidates are expected to sit 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in April.

He said this on Tuesday in Abeokuta at the sideline of the examination body’s Information and Communication Technology retreat, involving civil society groups, students and other major stakeholders.

The two-day retreat held within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library complex in Abeokuta.

He said JAMB also aimed to increase the capacity of its Computer-Based Test centres in order to make the April examination seamless.

FG closes 20,000 bank accounts, moves N5.2tn into TSA


Since the commencement of the Treasury Single Account in September 2015, over 20,000 accounts with Deposit Money Banks belonging to Ministries, Departments and Agencies have been closed with a total sum of N5.24tn moved into the TSA.

The Accountant General of the Federation, Ali Ahmed Idris, gave the figures on Tuesday in Abuja, while speaking at the opening session of a two day retreat on TSA.

The event which was attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Babachir Lawal among other top government officials had as its theme, “One year anniversary of Treasury Single Account: Benefits, challenges and way forward.”

FG says Nigerian economy going out of recession


The recession is receding, the Federal Government said yesterday.

Proof: The about eight-fold over subscription of the government’s Eurobond (orders in excess of US$7.8 billion compared to a pre-issuance target of US$1bn).

Besides, the oversubscription, the government believes, has confirmed the confidence level of the international investment community in Nigeria’s economic reform agenda.

A report in Issue 23 of Aso Villa’s Newsletter, Government at Work, released on Monday, also gave 11 other reasons why the government believes that the economy is on its way out of recession.

AMCON takes over OAS Helicopters


The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) has taken over Odengene Air-Shuttle Services (OAS) Helicopters in Lagos following a court order.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that AMCON had on Tuesday sealed the company at Maryland in Lagos, indicating that the company had been taken over by AMCON.

The order on the company’s office reads: “POSSESSION TAKEN TODAY 14/2/17 BY AMCON COURT ORDER ON SUIT NO. FHC/4CS/1139/2016

Ex-NNPC boss Andrew Yakubu forfeits N3 billion to Nigerian Government


A court has ordered that the $9.8 million and 74,000 pounds recovered from a house belonging to Andrew Yakubu be forfeited to the Nigerian government.

Mr. Yakubu, who reportedly admitted owning the money has since been arrested and is in custody of the EFCC.

The Federal High Court in Kano presided over by Justice Zainab Abubakar ordered the forfeiture on Tuesday.

Buhari is home sick - Aide says


The Presidency has alerted Nigerians on the possible return of President Muhammadu Buhari from London any moment from today as he is no longer “enjoying his stay’’ outside the country.

President Buhari, who proceeded on vacation to UK on Jan. 19 for a routine medical check had indicated in a letter to the Senate, transmitted another letter to the Senate, on Feb. 5, requesting extension of time to complete the medical check-up.

The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Malam Garba Shehu, in an interview with the Channels Television in Abuja on Tuesday, said that the president would be returning to Nigeria soonest as he was no longer `comfortable’ with the extended vacation in London.

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his sadness over the death of Hajiya Tasallah Fika, the wife of former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Adamu Fika, Wazirin Fika.

In a telephone call from London to the bereaved Wazirin, the President said the loss of such a devoted wife of many years was particularly a painful and challenging moment in the life of any husband.

We can’t keep feeding inmates, they must farm - Nigerian Prisons Service says


The Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS) says it intends to set up specialised farm centres so that prisoners will be able to feed themselves.

Jaffaru Ahmed, comptroller-general general of NPS, said this on Monday when he appeared before the house of representatives committee on interior.

He said every year, the service spends about N18 million to feed over 70,000 inmates across the country.

Federal Government launches 'Wahala Dey' mobile app for whistleblowing


The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has launched a mobile application that will aid anonymous whistle blowing for corrupt practices happening both within government agencies and parastatal as well as the private sectors.

The chairman of the commission, Ekpo Nta launched the App in Abuja on February 13, 2017.

The App called ‘Wahala Dey’ is available on android mobiles, blackberry mobiles and windows mobiles and can be downloaded at no cost to users.

Residents of Rosettenvile, South of Johannesburg, South Africa have expressed displeasure over the acts of immigrants living in the country. Last few days, at least 15 houses belonging or rented by immigrants, especially Nigerians, have been burnt by the angry residents.
