Obasanjo apologises to Nigerian activist, Joe Odumakin over May 2004 manhandling

Nigerian activist, Dr Joel Odumakin was manhandled by security operatives during the May 19, 2004 protest. She has announced that former President Obasanjo apologized to her when they met at an event in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Her name is Vicky and she started selling newspapers when she was 9-years-old and now in Junior Secondary, JSS III in WAPI, she makes on the average N500 and N600 proceeds daily from the venture. She even had Cross river state governor, Gov Ayade as one of her customers.

Vicky told Vanguard:

“I also gave the regular (daily) for N50.00 and sports newspaper for N20.00 to those who came here to read and return the paper and still sold the paper to those who wanted to buy.”

The 36-year-old was rushed to hospital with deep flesh wounds after the visit to the Eco Game Park in Headlands, in the Province of Manicaland, Eastern Zimbabwe.

Governor Fayose says FG withholding Ekiti allocations to frustrate projects

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has accused the Federal Government of directing the Federal Ministry of Finance to withhold the January Federal Allocation and the Budget Support Fund due to Ekiti State.

The Federal Government, the governor argued, did this because of his criticisms of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration

He also accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of embarking on a witch-hunt of the contractors handling the state’s projects in order to frustrate his government and prepare the ground for the All Progressives Congress’ return.

A 33-year-old man, Festus Anyanime, has regretted killing his twin daughters because they allegedly confessed to be witches.

Anyanime, a taxi driver from Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State, said he killed his 11-year-old twin daughters, identified as Emediong and Mfoniso, with poisoned malt drink on January 10, 2017.

He was paraded alongside other criminals at the Cross River State Police Command in Calabar on Tuesday.

1.7 million candidates to sit 2017 UTME

The Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has said 1.7 million candidates are expected to sit 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in April.

He said this on Tuesday in Abeokuta at the sideline of the examination body’s Information and Communication Technology retreat, involving civil society groups, students and other major stakeholders.

The two-day retreat held within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library complex in Abeokuta.

He said JAMB also aimed to increase the capacity of its Computer-Based Test centres in order to make the April examination seamless.
