Legal and Political implications of Buhari’s Continued ‘Vacation’ Abroad

On the political implications of President Muhammadu Buhari extending his medical/holiday period abroad, it keeps the nation on ethnoreligious tenterhooks, dangerous precipice, uncomfortable tension,  anxiety and a dark pall on government and governance.

It reminds one of the dark better forgotten days of the Yar’Adua brouhaha when what late Dora  Akunyilu described certain elements as “the cabal” because they unceremoniously seized the reins of government and held the nation to unspeakable ransom. God forbid a repetition of history. God forbid us behaving like the Bourbons of European history who learnt nothing and forgot nothing.

WHO: Cancer kills 8.8m people, costs N522trn yearly

About 8.8 million people die every year from cancer, mostly in low and middle-income countries because cancer cases are diagnosed too late. This is coming as the total annual economic cost of cancer through healthcare expenditure and loss of productivity was estimated at $1.16 trillion (N522 trillion).

Photos: Heavy security presence as protesters converge at National Stadium for #IStandWithNigeria

This is a live update of the happenings at the planned Nationwide protest by Nigerians to demand good governance. We will bring you more updates as the event unfolds.

Recall, 2face Idibia one of the pioneers opt out of the protest at the last minute yesterday.

(MUST READ) The Two Faces Of Tuface - Reuben Abati

Tuface’s decision to lead a protest to register the dissatisfaction of Nigerians with the performance of the incumbent administration and to reiterate the value of government’s responsibility to the people was his finest moment as a citizen and artiste. But it is also now, with his Jammeh-like volte-face, his worst moment. His transformation into a champion of democratic values and voice of the masses brought him added stardom and value. His retreat has turned Tuface into a revolutionary manqué. He deserves our understanding and sympathy.

When on 24th January Tuface, whose real name is Innocent Idibia, announced that he was going to lead, under the umbrella of the Tuface Foundation, a mass protest against the economic policies of the Buhari government, he immediately attracted public interest. A multiple award-winning musician, a naturally talented stage performer and author of at least two evergreen songs: “My African Queen” and “If Love is a Crime”, TuBaba, as he is also known, sounded like he was moving from art to politics, and seemed ready to answer to the true calling of the artist as the conscience of the people.

2face Idibia debunks reports that DSS arrested him

There were earlier reports going on around the media that DSS arrested pioneer of the Nationwide protest, 2face Idibia and that forced him to cancel his participation.

However, 2face has denied the claim. He stated this via his Instagram page and wrote:

REVEALED: ‘Nigerian Army Supplying Weapons To Fulani Herdsmen Using To Kill Christians’

A few days before any attack, a military helicopter is spotted dropping arms and other supplies into the areas inhabited by the Fulani tribes. Then the attack comes. For reasons of Islamic doctrine, the militia often deliver a letter of warning. Then they come, at any time of night or day, not down the dirt tracks, but silently through the foliage. The Christian villagers, who are forbidden to carry arms (everyone is, in theory), have no way to defend themselves. With some exceptions, they also tend to believe what they were taught about turning the other cheek.
Another day in northern Nigeria, another Christian village reeling from an attack by the Muslim Fulani herdsmen who used to be their neighbours — and who are now cleansing them from the area. The locals daren’t collect the freshest bodies. Some who tried earlier have already been killed, spotted by the waiting militia and hacked down or shot. The Fulani are watching everything closely from the surrounding mountains. Every week, their progress across the northern states of Plateau and Kaduna continues. Every week, more massacres — another village burned, its church razed, its inhabitants slaughtered, raped or chased away. A young woman, whose husband and two children have just been killed in front of her, tells me blankly, ‘Our parents told us about these people. But we lived in relative peace and we forgot what they said.’

Southern Kaduna: Goodluck Jonathan Testifies Before US Congress On Killing Of Christians [Full Speech]

Challenges of Nigerian Christians and the Niger Delta Question: A Presentation by Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, Chairman of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation to the U.S. House Sub-Committee on Africa, February 1, 2017

Let me start by thanking Congressman, Christopher H. Smith, Chairman U.S. House Sub-Committee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organizations for inviting me to share my views on the crisis facing Christians in Nigeria today and the Niger Delta question. The U.S. Congress is a powerful institution not just for good governance in the U.S. but also for global peace and development. Over the years, the U.S. Congress has shown consistent interest in African affairs and I thank you for this and for showing interest in Nigeria.

The Case For Biafra Is Stronger Than South Sudan, Kosovo – US Constitutional Lawyer Writes (READ)

Biafra, dominated by the great Igbo race, enjoyed sovereignty before Great Britain commenced exploitive colonial rule over Nigeria under the racist banner of Rudyard Kipling’s “the White Man’ burden.” Britain asserted authority over Biafra based on the tyrannical doctrine that the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.

The Berlin West Africa Conference, 1884-85, and the Berlin General Act symbolized colonial lawlessness by treating Africa as a carcass to be divided up among European vultures.

Restoration of Biafra’s sovereignty is justified under international law and practice—especially with the ongoing ethnic-inspired killings and persecutions of Biafrans by Nigeria’s elected military dictator from the North touting sharia law, President Muhammadu Buhari.

Tuface, The About-Face... The Struggle Continues

When Tuface Idibia popularly known as 2baba announced his intention to lead Nigerians to protest against bad governance and worsening economic conditions, I knew such plans would never succeed. Not because of his promiscuity or lack of education, but due to the fact that Tuface comes from a class of society simply described as “the Haves”. “The Haves” are a class of people who have the means, are in positions of power and influence within their stratosphere and have a lot to lose. Therefore, they would do better to consolidate their status, position and well-being than allow any disturbance in their socioeconomic status or allow anything “rock their boat”. For one, Tuface belongs to the elite class of Nigerian musicians with connections to corrupt politicians and numerous instances abound where he has gained financially from his connections. Therefore, he has a lot to lose protesting against a system he has reaped bountifully.
