While speaking in an exclusive interview on CNBC Africa, former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, revealed that Nigerian governors under the Goodluck Jonathan administration refused to save for a rainy day.

According to the influential politician, the former minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Muhammad Sanusi II, begged the federal government to build its savings but the governors kicked against the idea.

Lassa Fever Hits Plateau State, 4 Dead, 5 Cases Recorded


The Commissioner for Health in Plateau, Dr Kunden Deyin, said the state recorded four deaths, while laboratory tests confirmed five cases of Lassa fever since December 2016.

The commissioner told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday via telephone interview in Jos that 80 per cent of the mortality rate was due to late presentation of patients to health care facilities.

A motorcyclist and some other people were crushed to death by a speeding tanker this morning at 8 a.m along Onne Eleme road, GVC filling station, Aleto area of Eleme Town, Rivers State.

According to reports, the young man's head was crushed with his brain tissues pouring out. He died immediately on the spot. Men of the Federal Road Safety Corps were spotted at the scene trying to bring things under control.

Speaking in an official statement released to the Nigerian public, former minister of petroleum resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, says every human being makes mistakes, but one error that can never be ascribed to her is stealing.

The embattled immediate former minister accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of taking advantage of her silence, adding that she was prepared to face trial as long as due process is taken into consideration, and challenged the agency to provide “incontrovertible” evidence.
“I have up till now chosen to maintain my silence and not to respond to inaccurate press reporting. However, given the level of deliberate inaccuracies, I am now forced to respond because it is clear that the EFCC is taking advantage of my silence to try me by media and to convict me in the eyes of the public,” she said in a statement.

Army clarifies why Buratai dragged Premium Times to court


The Nigerian army has made a clarification on the case between it and online newspaper, Premium Times.

According to Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman, the case of libel will proceed between the online news platform and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TY Buratai.

United Nations: Boko Haram must not regroup


UN Security Council has tasked the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to prevent Boko Haram insurgents from regrouping.

The Council said that destructive insurgents who were recently dislodged from their safe haven in Sambisa Forest should not be allowed to regroup.

The Task Force was set up by Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, Niger and the Republic of Benin to tackle Boko Haram insurgents.

The Security Council, in a Presidential Statement, reiterated that terrorism should be combated in all forms to prevent its spread.

APC blasts PDP over choice of Fayose as chairman of governors' forum


The All Progressives Congress in Ondo State says Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State lacks decorum to function as the Chairman of Governors’ Forum of Peoples’ Democratic Party.

APC, in a statement on Monday by its Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Adesanya, said Fayose’s emergence showed that the “PDP is lacking in men and women of proven integrity”.
