Many people would be shocked to know that at least five U.S. Presidents were members of the Ku Klux Klan. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, ”the KKK started in the summer of 1866 when six ex-Confederate officers decided to organize a social club. They decided to use the term “kuklos,” which means circle. After adding the word klan, the name Ku Klux Klan was born.

In his book, “Setting the Record Straight: American History in Black & White,” David Barton details the political history of the KKK, noting that the original targets of the Klan were Republicans, both black and white, and that between 1882 and 1964, 3,446 blacks and 1,297 whites were lynched by the Klan.

Apostle Suleiman instructs his security officers to kill and cut off the head of any Fulani herdsman they see around him or the church premises


Senior pastor of the Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleiman, has instructed his security officers to kill any Fulani herdsman that they find around him or his church premises.

Suleiman who had a running battle with Kaduna state governor, Nasir El Rufai, after the governor gave an order that churches in his state must obtain license from the state before they can preach (read here) told his congregation while preaching last Sunday January 15th, that someone called him to intimate him that there is an alleged plan to send some Fulani herdsmen to kill him. He says he has instructed his security officers to kill any herdsmen seen around him or around his church premises.

Bus accident in Italy leaves 16 people dead


According to Italian news agency ANSA, a bus returning from a school trip hit a pylon of a bridge near Verona in northern Italy this morning, leaving at least 16 people dead and 39 others injured.

The bus was reportedly returning to Budapest, Hungary, from a school field trip in a mountain resort in France when the incident happened at the junction of Verona East on the road toward Venice, ANSA said.

Bishop Odutemu tells Buhari, others to forget re-election in 2019 if they don’t repent


The Bishop of Ughelli Diocese (Anglican Communion) Rt. Rev. Dr. Cyril Odutemu yesterday told President Muhammadu Buhari that the deployment of warships, including fighter jets, to the Niger Delta will not stop the agitations in the region.

This is also as he declared that President Buhari and other politicians would face hurdles in the 2019 general elections.

Bishop Odutemu made the assertion during a service marking the centenary birthday of the Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom at Otor-Orere Olomu Kingdom, in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Okonjo-Iweala: Donald Trump will let Africa shape its own destiny


Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, two-time minister of finance in Nigeria, says Donald Trump will give Africa the chance to shape its own destiny.

Speaking in an interview with BBC on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, Okonjo-Iweala said Africa may not be priority for the Trump presidency, but there is no need to despair.
“There are two schools of thoughts, but one very interesting one, to which I subscribe is that maybe Africa is not top of the agenda for the incoming government, therefore, that could really provide a chance for Africa to craft its own narratives,” she said.

Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard returns to club as coach


Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, has returned to the club as an Academy coach.

The 36-year-old has been in talks with the Reds since November 2015, about helping the club shape their future generation.


Gerrard eventually retired from playing football last year, but his appointment was only confirmed on Friday.

Study says Pepper consumption could help you live longer

A new study published in PLOS One says the consumption of hot chili pepper may extend one’s life.

To arrive at this assumption, researchers analysed data from over 16,000 Americans who were monitored for an average of nearly 19 years.

They found that hot red chili pepper consumption was associated with a 13 percent lower risk of death.

Malia Obama has landed an internship with Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

The 18-year-old, who’s the former first daughter of the United States, will start her position with the Oscar-winning producer in February before heading to Harvard in September.

Police IG raises alarm over more Policemen committing suicide


The Nigerian Police Force is worried over the rising cases of suicide among its officers across the country.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zone 5, Abubakar, Mohammed, lamented the development in an interactive session with policemen in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Thursday.

He said recent statistics confirmed that more policemen are taking their lives.

Mohammed, a former Director at the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) office in Lyon, France, said the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has ordered senior police officers to have close relationship with their subordinates.

Gov Rochas Okorocha says political future of Igbos rest in APC


Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo has reiterated that the political future of the Igbo race can only be guaranteed in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Okorocha, the Chairman of APC Governors Forum, said that South-East could not afford to be in opposition party, and urged all Igbos living outside the zone to join the APC.

The governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Sam Onwuemeodo, restated this in Owerri on Saturday.

Son of Nigerian diplomat bags life sentence over rape, murder


A court in Scotland on Friday sentenced a Nigerian man to life in prison after finding him guilty of raping and killing a sex worker in February 2016, Scottish press reported.

Bala Chinda, a 26-year-old son of a Nigerian diplomat, murdered Nkechi McGraa by asphyxiation at an apartment in Union Terrace, Aberdeen, Scotland’s Press and Journal reported.

The reports said Mr. Chinda approached Ms. McGraa, a 37-year-old mother of one and commercial sex worker, for her service the night before the incident on February 11, 2016.

A violent rage broke out between the two when Mr. Chinda could not pay for Ms. McGraa’s service the next day, which led to her death after being beaten and suffocated, according to court proceedings.

Edo Pastor Accused Of Adultery says “He Didn’t Sleep With Church Member’s Wife”


Presiding pastor of Miracle House of God Prophetic Ministry in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, Prophet Great Emokpae, who was accused of being involved in an amorous affair with the wife of one Anthony Ehikioya, has denied the allegation.

JUST IN: Policemen open fire on UNIOSUN students


There is confusion at Oke Baale area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, as some policemen allegedly opened fire on some students of the Osun State University while playing football on Saturday morning.

Our correspondent gathered that that two students were hit by the bullets.

One of them identified as Abiola Kazeem, was said to have been hit on the stomach and was rejected at two hospitals before he was taken to LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Osogbo where he is now being treatment.

The other victim, Ibrahim , was said to have been hit by the bullet in the mouth.

Buhari renominates Magu for EFCC Chairmanship


President Muhammadu Buhari has once again submitted the name of Ibrahim Magu, the current acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as his candidate for the substantive chairmanship of the anti-corruption agency.

A highly placed source at the Presidency told Saharareporters today that Mr. Magu’s name had been forwarded to the office of the Nigerian Senate President Bukola Saraki. “I can confirm that President Buhari submitted Ibrahim Magu’s name just before he began a 10-day vacation in Britain on Thursday,” the presidential source revealed.
