IPOB: Donald Trump Support Turns Violent, 11 Feared Dead


The solidarity rally embarked upon today by the indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in support of US president-elect, Donald Trump in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State has turned violent.

According Media and Publicity ‎secretary of IPOB, Mr. Emma Powerful, in a short message to the newsmen alleged that no fewer than 11 members of the pro-Biafra group have been shot dead by security operatives.
“They have attacked our people; 11 have been confirmed dead, many others have bullet wounds”, he claimed in the statement.

Secluded in his hideaway in Pakistan, Osama bin Laden suspected Iranian officials might implant tracking devices in his sons, according to a document released Thursday in a batch of materials seized in a 2011 raid that killed the al-Qaida leader.
"If they inject you with a shot, this shot might be loaded with a tiny chip," bin Laden wrote in an undated letter to his sons, Uthman and Mohammed, who were being allowed to leave Iran. "The syringe size may be normal, but the needle is expected to be larger than normal size. The chip size may be as long as a seed of grain but very thin and smooth."

40-year-old worker at World Cup stadium in Qatar dies


A worker has died at one of the 2022 World Cup venues in Qatar, tournament organisers have confirmed.

The 40-year-old British man, who had been employed at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, passed away on Thursday.
"The relevant authorities have been notified and the next of kin has been informed," the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy said in a statement.

Iniesta suffers calf injury in Barca victory over Real Sociedad


Andres Iniesta suffered a calf injury in Barcelona's Copa del Rey victory over Real Sociedad.

Barca confirmed after the first leg of the quarter-final tie that the midfielder had suffered the problem to his left calf and will undergo medical tests on Friday.

Iniesta, 32, had been replaced by Andre Gomes at half-time, the latest blow in a season that has been interrupted by two knee injuries.

AC Milan make final offer for Everton's Gerard Deulofeu


AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani says they are awaiting a response from Everton to a final offer for winger Gerard Deulofeu.

The former Barcelona man has only started four Premier League matches this season and has long been linked with a January move to San Siro.

Galliani says a bid has been made to sign Deulofeu on loan with a view to a permanent deal, although he insists that negotiations will come to an end should Everton reject this latest offer.

Arkwright, who spoke in an interview on Thursday, said that it was too late for Nigerians to continue to blame the underdevelopment of Nigeria on the amalgamation of Nigeria in 1914, pointing out that a lot had taken place since the country attained independence in 1960.

Boko Haram: Soldiers repel attack on Rann IDP camp, kill 8


Days after the accidental bombing by a Nigerian airforce jet, which killed at least 54 persons, Rann IDP Camp in Borno State came under another attack, this time, by Boko Haram insurgents.

Witnesses in Rann said soldiers deployed to secure the bombed IDP camp battled for hours to repel over 100 Boko Haram gunmen who came attacking at about 6pm.

A source from Rann spoke with Premium Times that the soldiers stood their ground and killed eight of the attacking insurgents.

President-elect Donald Trump has asked roughly 50 senior President Barack Obama administration appointees to remain in their posts after his inauguration to ensure continuity in government, his incoming White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, said on Thursday.

The officials include the highest-ranking career officials at key national security agencies like the Pentagon and State Department.

Deputy Defence Secretary Robert Work and America’s third-ranking diplomat, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon, will serve as acting chiefs of their agencies until successors for the top jobs are confirmed by the Senate, Mr. Trump’s spokesman said.

Mass sack looms in Nigerian hotels – Hotel Association laments


The Nigeria Hotel Association on Thursday said that hotels in the country might soon begin to disengage workers due to tough regulations and high running cost.

The association Chairman in Rivers, Mr. Eugene Nwauzi, said that the tough situation had led to 300 percent increase in rates for hotel accommodation.

Nwauzi said that aside from the increase in charges, the hotels were also experiencing loss of patronage

He said that imminent sack of workers was part of the measures being contemplated to reduce losses arising from poor patronage, high running cost and tough regulatory environment.

The Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, has bemoaned the failure of security agencies to rescue missing  Rev. Fr. Gabriel Oyaka from his abductors after more than one year, according to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) report.

Onaiyekan expressed the view at a press briefing following a mass in honor of the missing priest in Abuja on Thursday.

Oyaka was the financial secretary of  the Congregation of Holy Ghost Fathers and was abducted in October 2015 while he was travelling from Abuja to Onitsha, Anambra, for a meeting.

Google’s Communications and Public Affairs Manager, Anglophone West Africa, Mr Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, said in a statement in Lagos that the pastor was sacked for registering with the controversial ponzi scheme, popularly known as MMM.

Disturbing Video: 15-year-old student shoots teacher, 3 students and himself at American school in Mexico


A 15-year-old student opened fire Wednesday at an American school in Monterrey, northern Mexico, gravely injuring three students and a teacher before turning the gun to himself.

The shooter died at a hospital and three of the victims are "fighting between life and death," as they were all shot in the head, Fox news reports. The entire scene was captured by a surveillance camera.
