Orji Uzor Kalu's daughter's wedding postponed to February 2017


Former Abia state governor Orji Uzor Kalu's daughter, Neya was supposed to be traditionally wedded to her heartthrob, Lawrence Iyere tomorrow Dec. 28th at her father's home town in Igbere, Bende LGA of Abia state.

The wedding has however been postponed.

The Indimis and their marriage to children of Heads of State


Contrary to the widespread tale that the marriage of Zahra Buhari is the third the Indimis are staging with children of the occupants of Nigeria’s seat of power, this wedding is actually the second.

Rahama Yakolo, one of the daughters of the oil tycoon, Muhammadu Indimi, married Mohammed Babangida, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida’s son in 2004, long after the man had left power (he reigned and ruled between 1985 to 1993).

'Mad' man selling baby diapers to native doctors for rituals caught in Ogun state (Photos)


An elderly man who pretends to be a mad man and goes from house to house looking for used baby pampers from dust bins. He allegedly sells them to ritualists, who use them to make charms, causing the babies to die not long after the sale.

When he was caught, used baby diapers, lots of cash, and other materials were found on him Nigerian Facebook user Zevi Gins shared the pics and said:

Photos: Plane skids off runway during takeoff with 161 People aboard, many injured


A plane has skidded off the runway during takeoff at Goa airport. The Jet Airways aircraft was headed to Mumbai, India with 161 people on board, including seven crew members, when the incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Flight 9W 2374 veered off the runway at Dabolim airport in Goa while aligning for takeoff, the Indian Express reported. Some 12 passengers are believed to have been injured, the airline said.

In a statement, Jet Airways said all passengers have been evacuated safely.

A man became trapped in a 10-meter-deep well in Fuzhou, Jiangxi province after the well's shaft unexpectedly collapsed. He was ultimately saved by firefighters and a rescue team, who used their bare hands to extract him after an excavator demolished the well.

Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima spent the whole of Monday, being Boxing Day, in Chibok town, where over 200 schoolgirls were abducted by Boko Haram insurgents at a Government Secondary School on April 14, 2014, after a night attack.

While in Chibok, the Governor met 21 schoolgirls freed by the Boko Haram in October 2016 following a negotiation with the insurgents that was brokered by International mediators. 

The 21 girls have been in custody of the Federal Government in Abuja but were brought to Chibok to mark their first Christmas since abduction over two years ago. ‎Armed soldiers and officials of the Department of State Security escorted the 21 girls to Chibok and remain their strict guards throughout the Christmas.

An ISIS militant ordered the beheading of an elderly prisoner -after accusing him of being a wizard. The extremist read out his charges in a town square near Damascus in Syria. A crowd of men and boys watched on as an executioner wielding a sword decapitated the prisoner.

Ogun State | Community gets electricity after ’10 years of darkness’


Magboro community on the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, popularly referred to as “Second Lagos’’, unexpectedly had electricity restored to the area Monday as “Christmas present’’ after a decade.

Magboro, including Ibafo and Asese on the axis had been without power supply for many years.

The communities had at various times protested the protracted power outage in their communities.

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC, responsible for the power supply to the affected communities, however, blamed the protracted darkness on the contractors engaged by the Federal Government to build its power project.

EFCC to spend N6.13bn on new head office in 2017 after N7.912bn was budgeted for it in 2016


The Federal Government will spend additional N6.129bn on a new head office for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in 2017.

According to Today NG reports, this was apart from a total of N7.912bn budgeted for the same project in the 2016 Budget.

The commission’s current head office is located on Fomella Street, off Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja.

According to a copy of the details of the 2017 Appropriation Bill currently before the National Assembly, N4.584bn would be spent on the completion of the ongoing construction of the new head office.

Suspended Rep Member, Jibrin says Buhari playing into enemies’ hands


Suspended member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Abdulmumin Jibrin, has lashed out at President Muhammadu Buhari, saying that he has allowed himself to be taken hostage.

The former Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, did not say who took the President hostage, but in a series of tweets on his twitter handle, @AbdulAbmJ, on Monday, the lawmaker asked Buhari to either fight those blackmailing him or give up the Presidency.

In one of the tweets, he wrote, “A President must repel blackmail with all his arsenals or give up the Presidency. You cannot be an effective president while in hostage!”

PDP faults Buhari’s success claims over defeat of Boko Haram


The Peoples Democratic Party has called on President Muhammadu Buhari not to rejoice over the alleged defeat of the Boko Haram sect.

The party also enjoined the President to do more in order to stop the killings in Southern Kaduna and intensify the war against the Boko Haram foot soldiers.

JRC accuses Buhari of not wanting peace in Niger Delta


The Joint Revolutionary Council (JRC) has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of not genuinely interested in bringing about peace in the Niger Delta.

According to the JRC, which used to be an amalgam of major militant groups in the Niger Delta, it alleged that Buhari’s preference for dialogue with fake groups in the region has made attainment of genuine peace cumbersome.

Muslim Northern governors spend Christmas in Akwa Ibom, call for unity


The Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has urged Nigerians to double efforts at bridging gaps in the country, saying what unites the people is more important than things that divide them.

Speaking in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, when he joined two other Muslim northern governors to take part in festivities to commemorate this year’s Christmas, Mr. Tambuwal said Nigeria’s diversity is a source of strength which should be cherished and nurtured for the benefit of the people.

Delta State | Unknown gunmen kidnap wife of PDP’s chieftain


Gunmen on Saturday kidnapped the wife of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s chieftain in Asaba, Mrs. Mercy Ugboma.

The woman was abducted on her way to a Church vigil when the six-man gang intercepted her at Okwe area in the state capital.

According to the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, the woman was taken away in her Prado Jeep, which the kidnappers later abandoned for another vehicle.

Emeka Ezeugo: Federal Government must stop funding NFF


Former international, Emeka Ezeugo, has urged the Federal Government to allow the Nigeria Football Federation run as an independent body sourcing its own funds for its programmes.

The NFF relies on allocation from the Federal Government to take care of the national teams.

Ezeugo also said a lack of legislation is killing football in the country.

Economist says Buhari’s 2017 budget can’t end recession


An economist has questioned President Muhammadu Buhari’s optimism that his 2017 federal ‘Budget of Recovery & Growth’ would bring an end to the current economic recession in the country.

The president said at the opening of the induction course for Nigerian career ambassadors-designate in Abuja that he was optimistic the current economic recession would end in 2017.

He based his confidence on his administration’s reform policies and measures outlined in his 2017 budget speech to the National Assembly to turn around the country’s macroeconomic environment.

The octogenarian politician died Monday after a brief illness, close family relatives told our correspondent on Tuesday.

Nigeria's external reserves rise further to $25.4bn


The nation’s foreign exchange reserves have risen further to $25.4bn, according to the latest data obtained from the website of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

In less than one week, the reserves rose by almost $300m from $25.084bn recorded on December 16, 2016 to $25.361 on December 22, 2016, the CBN data showed

This indicated that the foreign exchange reserves had risen to almost four-month high.

The last time the reserves recorded something close to this figure was on September 2 when it had the balance of $24.361bn.
