Woman who was kidnapped in FESTAC regains freedom


About two days ago, one Comfort Alaba, a Nigerian Customs Service Officer was kidnapped near an eatery on 22 Road, Festac Town in front of her children.

Her daughter Faith had immediately cried out on Twitter asking Nigerians and the police for help rescuing her mother.

Alan Shearer: Rooney will not break my Premier League goals record


Former Newcastle and Blackburn Rovers striker, Alan Shearer, has cast doubts over whether Manchester United captain, Wayne Rooney, can break his Premier League goals record.

Rooney, 31, is on 194 goals – 66 fewer than the total tally Shearer achieved.
“I thought Wayne Rooney would manage or come near to making it,” Shearer told the Newcastle Chronicle.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said he is under intense pressure to contest the 2019 presidential election.

According to an online medium, Newsday, Jonathan said he has been he receiving calls, messages and mails from both local and international groups, asking him to contest in 2019.

Drama! Ondo workers drag accountant-General to bank to pay their salaries


Just three days to Christmas celebration, workers in Ondo State, Thursday forcefully dragged the Account-General (AG), Mr. Felix Ajibokun to a bank to begin the process of payment of workers’ salaries.

The aggrieved workers, who earlier picketed the A-G office at Alagbaka Akure, the state capital, were being owed six months salaries.

They were led by their Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) Chairman, Mr. Sunday Adeleye and the State Chairman, Mrs. Bosede Daramola and other union leaders.

Nigerian Army captures 80% of Sambisa, constructs roads in the forest


The Nigerian military on Wednesday said it had commenced the construction of roads into the Sambisa and Alagarno havens of the Boko Haram insurgents.

The military also revealed that over 80 per cent of the Sambisa Forest had been captured from the insurgents as it insisted that the counter-insurgency war in the North-East would soon be over.

The military equally disclosed at a press conference by the head of counter-insurgency operation in the North-East (Operation Lafiya Dole), Maj. Gen. Lucky Irabor, that 1,880 civilians mostly women were rescued from the insurgents in the last one week.

Zimbabwean Court orders President’s wife to return property


A Zimbabwean court has ordered President Robert Mugabe’s wife to return three properties she seized from a local businessman in a messy dispute over a $1.35-million diamond ring, a lawyer said Thursday.

Grace Mugabe was taken to court by Jamal Ahmed after she took over three of his properties, demanding that he repay the $1.35 million (1.3 million euros) she had paid for a diamond ring that she then decided she did not want.

On Wednesday, Zimbabwe’s High Court ordered Grace to vacate the properties she seized, Ahmed’s lawyer Beatrice Mtwetwa said in a statement.

Super Eagles drop out of top 50 in latest FIFA rankings


The recent ranking released by World football governing body FIFA has seen the Super Eagles of Nigeria move up to 51st in the world and number eight football playing nation in Africa.

In the ranking released on Thursday, Nigeria dropped out of the top 50 position, as they are now 51st as opposed to last month where they were 50th.

VP Osinbajo: “We are progressing but it is slow"


Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday admitted that although the current administration is making progress, it is slow.

He attributed the slow nature of the government’s progress to what he called “damages of the past.”

According to a statement from his media office, Osinbajo spoke when he paid an unscheduled visit to the Mpape artisans’ village, located near the Maitama district of Abuja.

Buhari, Osinbajo foreign trips will cost N1.05bn in 2017


The foreign trips of President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the State House headquarters will gulp about N1.05bn in the 2017 fiscal year.

Their local trips will cost the nation N353.115m.

These are some of the details of the 2017 Appropriation Bill currently before the National Assembly as obtained by our correspondent on Thursday in Abuja.

According to the breakdown of the proposed budget, Buhari’s international travels and transport will gulp N739.487m; Osinbajo’s will cost N218.296m; while the State House Headquarters will spend N97.208m on the same item.

Traditional Ruler in Delta State commits suicide


Tragedy hit the Umuachi-Ogo community of Ndokwa-East Local Government Area, Delta State, on Wednesday, when the traditional ruler of the community, HRM Onotuku Joseph Onyemali, committed suicide.

Our correspondent gathered that the monarch was found dead after consuming a substance suspected to be poisonous after an allegation of witchcraft was levelled against him by some of his subjects.

Sources told our correspondent on Thursday that the corpse of the monarch was discovered at 8am on Wednesday.

DSS accuses Governor Wike of sponsoring Abuja protests


The Department of State Services has accused the Governor of Rivers State, Mr.  Nyesom Wike, of sponsoring protests to disrupt public peace in strategic Federal Government’s offices in Abuja and its environs.

The DSS said that the plot behind the alleged protests was to provoke a violent breach of peace in the Federal Capital Territory.

The DSS stated this in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by its spokesperson, Mr. Tony Opuiyo.

Boko Haram releases more 21 Chibok Girls


Another 21 Chibok schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram from their school have been released.

A report Thursday evening by the federal radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) stated that the girls were brought to Yola International Airport in Yola, Adamawa State capital around 3 pm on Thursday.

The girls were part of more than 200 kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls held since April 14, 2014, by Boko Haram. 21 of the girls were released on October 13 in a deal brokered by the International Committee of Red Cross and the Swiss government.

The post said: 'This poor cat was brought to our clinic yesterday after her elderly (owner) had to move to a nursing home. 'She suffered from severe matting (dreadlocks, really), the likes of which had been neglected for years.'
