President Buhari presents 2017 budget, says government will concentrate on roads, rail


President Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday, presented the 2017 Appropriation Bill to a joint session of the National Assembly, stressing that his administration will focus on infrastructure in the coming year.

Speaking during the presentation, the President said his administration will focus on infrastructure with more attention on road and rail.

Kano State | Authorities cracks down on beggars, arrests 226


The Kano State Hisbah Board arrested 226 beggars for allegedly violating the law banning street begging along the major streets of the state capital in November, an official said on Wednesday.

The officer in charge of the Anti-begging Unit of the board, Malam Musa Sangaya, in Kano said that 119 of the 226 beggars were children, while 107 were adult.

He said, “Our men arrested 226 street beggars around Bata, Naibawa, Nassarawa hospital and Yankaba areas for violating the law banning street begging in Kano metropolis.

Police parades driver who robs passenger at gunpoint


A 35-year-old driver, Felix Jeremiah, who allegedly robbed a female passenger of her belongings at gunpoint, was on Wednesday brought before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The accused, who is facing a five-count charge of conspiracy, robbery, assault, fraud and stealing, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Inspector Richard Odigie, told the court that the accused had, on November 27 at about 3p.m. at Oniru Area, Lagos, conspired with two others at large.

Ondo Gov-elect, Akeredolu visits Mimiko, says it will take hard work to surpass his achievements


The Ondo state governor-elect, Mr. Oluwa Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) today said it will take hard work to surpass the track record put into public service by the state outgoing governor, Olusegun Mimiko.

He noted that Mimiko should be commended for the years he dedicated to public service as two-term commissioner for health, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Minister for Housing and Urban and as a governor.

The governor-elect was speaking during a courtesy visit to Mimiko and some members of his cabinet at the governor’s office at Alagbaka in Akure.

A 25-year-old caterer, Rosemary Nnaife, who was allegedly bathed with acid by her ex-lover in the Lawanson, Surulere area of Lagos State, has demanded the prosecution of the suspect, identified only as Paul.

The Delta State indigene, whose face had been scarred by the acid, said since the incident, Paul had yet to be prosecuted.

The victim explained that she had dated Paul for four years before the relationship ended due to abuse and violence.

The owner of a sex shop in Spain has been on the receiving end of death threats, abuse, and boycotts after he featured a nativity scene painted on ceramic dildos in his front window.

Héctor Valdivielso, who owns the Non Sit Peccatum sex shop near Toledo, commissioned an artist to paint the figures of Joseph, the virgin Mary and baby Jesus on ceramic dildos. And his shop was vandalised with the word 'pecadores' (sinners), protested against, and a group the Children of the

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has seized at least 12 properties from a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Mohammed, and his son, Shamsudeen Bala, Punch reports.

Police got a shock when investigating two abandoned suitcases on a train to Vienna when they discovered two Afghan women stuffed inside them.

Romanian border patrol officers stationed in the town of Curtici entered the luggage compartment of the train which was travelling to the Austrian capital having become suspicious of the bags.

After deciding to open them, they found two women inside, who were trying to reach Austria illegally.

Two Yazidi women who were brutally gang raped by ISIS and kept as sex slaves have received an award in recognition of their bravery.

Nadia Murad and Lamiya Aji Bashar were among thousands of women and girls abducted, tortured and sexually abused by Islamic State fighters in Iraq in 2014.

Federal Court Orders Zenith Bank To Unfreeze Fayose’s Account


A Federal High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has ordered Zenith Bank to immediately unfreeze the accounts of Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo said the  Economic and Financial Crimes Commission did not follow the laid down regulations in ordering the bank to freeze the accounts.

Federal Government to increase salaries next year – Minister


Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, has promised Nigerian workers that they will get a pay rise next year.

Ngige said this in Awka, the Anambra State capital, during an interactive session with journalists on Tuesday.

He explained that the various committees handling the minimum wage issue would soon come up with a solution.

Chelsea escape points deduction as FA fines club £100,000


Chelsea have escaped a possible points deduction, following their bench-clearing fracas at the end of their 3-1 win over Manchester City on December 3.

The brawl started after City striker, Sergio Aguero, lunged into Blues defender David Luiz. Aguero and Fernandinho were eventually sent off.

Federal Government reaffirms that Nigeria will come out of recession in 2017


The federal government of Nigeria has assured Nigerians that the ongoing economic hardship in the nation would end in 2017.

It said a foundation for a diversified economy had been being laid, adding that “the 2017 budget will strengthen the economy further.”
