Not less than 470,000 Nigerians die from firewood smoke in five years


Not less than 470,000 Nigerians are believed to have died from firewood smoke-induced ailments in the past five years.

The World Health Organisation recently said smoke from open fire is Nigeria’s third biggest killer with over 95,000 deaths annually behind Malaria and HIV/AIDS.

It added that the majority of the people affected are women, who cook for their families and their children, who often stay close to them in the kitchen.

Fidel Castro is dead at age 90


Guerrilla revolutionary and communist idol, Fidel Castro was a holdout against history who turned tiny Cuba into a thorn in the paw of the mighty capitalist United States.

The former Cuban president, who died aged 90 on Friday, said he would never retire from politics.

But emergency intestinal surgery in July 2006 drove him to hand power to Raul Castro, who ended his brother’s antagonistic approach to Washington, shocking the world in December 2014 in announcing a rapprochement with US President Barack Obama.

Donald McGahn has been appointed an assistant to the president and White House counsel, Donald Trump’s transition team announced Friday. 
“Don has a brilliant legal mind, excellent character and a deep understanding of constitutional law,” said President-elect Trump. “He will play a critical role in our administration, and I am grateful that he is willing to serve our country at such a high-level capacity.”

US embassy warns of likely Boko Haram attack in Abuja


The United States, US, Embassy in Nigeria has warned of an imminent Boko haram attack in Abuja.

The US embassy in an emergency message urged its citizen’s resident or doing business in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, to be security cautious.

The mission said information available at its disposal points in the direction of Boko Haram as the possible attackers.

FG to MDAs: Don’t reject corps members

Despicable! Newborn baby found padded in plastic bags and dumped by the roadside


A newborn baby was found abandoned by the roadside on November 22, in Pakse, Champasak, a province in southwestern Laos, near the borders with Thailand and Cambodia. The baby was stuffed into plastic bags with a rope tied tightly around its neck in suspected strangulation. The Facebook user who posted the photos didn't indicate if the baby survived.

The Lagos State Command have arrested two suspects in connection with the robbery attack on popular comedian Bright Okpocha a.k.a Basketmouth.

On 7/9/2016, the Lagos State Command received a distress call from Basketmouth that he has been robbed at gunpoint. Subsequently the Command opened up investigation.

Moments drunken ladies offer policemen sex for freedom (Video)


Video of two Kenyan ladies that were arrested for being drunk and behaving in a disorderly manner has emerged on social media.

The video shared on Facebook by one Jacob Vikey shows the unidentified drunk ladies ranting at the police officers in Swahili, with one of them even offering sex for her freedom. She can be heard saying: 'If it’s sex you want just tell us!'

Photos of 146 migrants including pregnant women, unaccompanied minors from Nigeria rescued in the Mediterranean Sea


Malta-based foundation, Migrant Offshore Aid Station managed to safely rescue 146 African migrants from an overcrowded rubber boat despite the rough seas and the unfavorable conditions.

Among them were 16 women, two of whom are pregnant, a child, and 27 unaccompanied minors. Most of the people rescued were coming from Nigeria and other West African countries.

Dozens of Boko Haram terrorists and two vigilantes killed near Chibok


At a fierce clash near Chibok, 2 members of youth Vigilantes of Chibok Local Government Area of Borno state and scores of suspected members of dreaded Boko Haram sect were killed.

Chibok and Damboa shares local boundary, while Shawa village which is north east at the fringes of Sambisa Forest is one of the stronghold of boko haram sect who have been terrorising Chibok communities, including the recent attack on Thaimaklama village where foodstuff and livestock were looted before setting the whole village ablaze.

Sources said, during the encounter, one of the patrol vehicle of the vigilantes stepped on a planted landmines (Improvised Explosive Devices), hitherto planted by the insurgents which exploded, killing two vigilantes, with other two also injured.

The governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Oluwadare Bada, has withdrawn from tomorrow’s governorship election in Ondo State.

Antonio Conte tells Moses to ignore Barcelona rumours


Victor Moses has been told focus on his football with Chelsea after being scouted by Barcelona since his move to right wing-back.

PDP suspends Sen Iyiola Omisore


A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State has suspended a former Deputy Governor of the state, Senator Iyiola Omisore for allegedly engaging in anti-party activities.

This suspension of Omisore and other PDP chieftains is contained in a statement issued on Friday and signed  by Chairman,  Mr. Soji Adagunodo and the Secretary, Mr. Bola Ajao.

Apart from Omisore, the Adagunodo-led executive also suspended the chairman of the other faction of the party, Dr. Bayo Faforiji;  Bunmi Jenyo;  Chief Ojo Williams and  Bade Falade for the same offence.

EFCC gives reasons why they can't release Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia now


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC has disclosed why Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia should remain in custody.

The EFCC urged a Federal High Court in Lagos to refuse an application by the embattled Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia seeking immediate release from the EFCC custody.

Ofili-Ajumogobia has been in EFCC custody since November 8.

The EFCC arrested her while probing the source of about $793,800, which the EFCC claimed passed through her domiciliary accounts between 2012 and 2015.
