Senate says Boko Haram bombing soft targets to get relevance


The Senate Committee on Army has said that the Boko Haram terrorists are seeking relevance by bombing soft targets because they have been decimated by troops.

The Chairman of the Committee, Sen. George Akume, made the remark on Thursday when he led other members of the committee on an oversight visit to the Army Headquarters in Abuja.

Man smashes bank doors, vandalises vehicles claims 'God' sent him


A man who claimed that God instructed him to engage in violent conduct, went berserk on Thursday in the premises of a Sango-Ota branch of a first generation bank, smashing car windshields and glass doors.

The middle-aged man, identified as Oyediran Oladipupo, was however prevented from barging into the bank.

The development, which caused serious panic among bank customers, saw everyone scampering for safety as they mistook the incident for armed robbery.

Robbers attack Luis Figo's house, cart away with jewelries worth €500,000


Former Barcelona and Real Madrid player Luis Figo's Madrid mansion was attacked on Wednesday night while the footballer wasn't around and the robbers made away with jewellery worth €500,000 according to reports in the Spanish media.

Kogi Government recalls suspended Head of Service, Perm Secs, others


Kogi State Government on Thursday recalled the state’s Head of Service, Moses Atakpa, and 102 Permanent Secretaries and Directors it placed on compulsory leave since February.

The state acting Head of Service , Hassanat Lawal, said in a statement in Lokoja that their recall was ordered by the state governor, Yahaya Bello.

Sokoto State | NSCDC arrest suspected fake currency agent, hoodlums


Operatives of Sokoto Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, on Thursday paraded one Collins Nzewewe for printing fake currency alongside other suspected area boys.

Collins, 42, a father of seven, who hails from Orlu village of Orlu South Local Government, Imo state, said he was brought into the trade by one Abdulaziz from Niger Republic.

Collins who lived within the metropolis said he had lived about 3 years in the state, leaving his family behind in Imo State, adding that he was only a motorcycle mechanic.

President of NBA says bad eggs in judiciary will be fished out, punished


The President of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Abubakar Mahmud, said on Thursday that the association was working towards restoring the integrity of the judiciary and legal profession.

Mr. Mahmud made this known on the sidelines of the first National Executive Committee Meeting of the Bar, held in Minna.

OMG! Man stabbed neighbour on his manhood in Lagos


One Obed Fwoms, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stabbing his neighbour, Emeka Ofoke, with a knife on his manhood in Awori – Dopemu, Agege area of Lagos State.

The prosecutor, Insp Nwosu George, told the court that the accused committed the offence on November 17 at his residence.

The 32-year-old man, who is standing trial on a one-count charge of wounding and similar acts, unlawfully assaulted Ofoke by stabbing him with a knife on his manhood.

Fani-Kayode says Obasanjo showed immense courage by criticizing Buhari


A PDP chieftain, Femi Fani-Kayode has expressed delight that ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo, under whose administration he served as minister of Aviation, has joined those criticizing the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, has insisted that he remains the national leader of the party.

Speaking with reporters on Thursday in Abuja, the former Borno State governor maintained that he remains the party’s Chairman until the Port Harcourt division of Appeal Court says otherwise.

The Abuja division of the court had yesterday affirmed the Sen. Ahmed Makrfi-led committee while describing the Sheriff’s faction of the PDP as illegal.

Super Falcons coach not happy with referee after Ghana draw


Head coach of Nigeria’s senior women national team, Florence Omagbemi, has admitted that Ghana gave her side a tough match on Wednesday at the ongoing African Women Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The Falcons were held to a 1-1 draw in Limbe, a result which keeps them on top of Group B.

However, Omagbemi was not too pleased with some of the referee’s decisions and insists Nigeria deserved at least one penalty in the match.

The PDP has restated its call for the extension of the Ondo governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 26, to enable it “screen and select agents for the exercise”.

The Court of Appeal, on Wednesday in Abuja, dropped the party’s candidate, Jimoh Ibrahim, and replaced him with Eyitayo Jegede, who was the flag bearer before being substituted.

The Chairman of the party’s national caretaker committee, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, has described the judgement as a “massive step forward”, but argued that the party deserved “a little more time to select its agents in the interest of fair play”.

Following Wednesday’s Appeal Court judgment, the Eyitayo Jegede’s faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is rushing gubernatorial election campaigns in Ondo to beat Friday night deadline.

The Appeal Court in Abuja declared Jegede the authentic PDP candidate for the poll slated for Nov. 26.

The court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to replace Jimoh Ibrahim’s name with that of Jedege.

Bale to miss El Clasico, sidelined for up to three months with ankle injury


Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale will miss next week's El Clasico against Barcelona after being ruled out up to three months with an ankle injury.

Bale sustained the injury during Madrid's 2-1 win over Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Scans have shown that Bale has damaged the peroneal tendon in his right ankle and will be out for two to three months.

Former Liverpool and England captain Steven Gerrard has retired, ending a 19-year playing career.

Gerrard, 36, played 710 times for the Reds, winning eight major trophies, but joined MLS side LA Galaxy in 2015.

The midfielder is England's fourth most-capped player with 114 appearances and captained the side at three of the six major tournaments he played at.

Senate passes Nigerian Peace Corps Bill


The Senate on Thursday passed the Nigerian Peace Corps Bill into law, thereby giving approval for the establishment of the Nigerian Peace Corps as an agency under the Ministry of Interior.

Presenting the report of the Committee on Interior on the floor of the Senate, the committee chairman, Senator Bayero Nafada urged the Senate to support the passage of the Bill, saying “the organisation will be of great benefit to the Nigerian youths”.
