ASUU Chairman Warns: “Indefinite Strike Is Imminent”


As a week’s nationwide warning strike by university lecturers ends today (Tuesday), the teachers are threatening to go on an indefinite strike if their demands are not met.

Dr. Ifeanyi Abada, the Chairman of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka Chapter of the Academic staff Union of Universities, made this known on Tuesday in Nsukka, Enugu State.

Ahmed Makarfi: PDP leadership crisis will be over before the end of December


The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Caretaker Committee Chairman, Sen Ahmed Makarfi, has predicted that the leadership crises that have bedeviled the party will be over by the end of the year.

Speaking in Abuja, the former Kaduna State governor said the decision to give the caretaker committee a one-year extension in Port Harcourt during the party’s National Convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State in August was a right decision.

According to Makarfi, before the tenure of his committee expires, the Supreme Court would have settled the leadership crises ravaging the party.

80% of JAMB candidates not qualified to write UTME – Registrar


The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has revealed that 40 per cent of candidates, who pass the examination annually conducted by the body, do not have the qualification to study in the university.

This was as he stated that 80 per cent of the 1.5 candidates, who apply to write the yearly Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, do not have the qualifications to sit for it.

Oloyede made this known in Abuja at the 2016 Nigeria Higher Education Summit with the theme: “Exploiting diversity, differentiation and quality assurance in revitalising the Nigerian higher education system.”

Yaga Yarkawa told newsmen on Monday night in Maiduguri while visiting to receive food items donated by the State Government for onward delivery to displaced persons.

How fake bureau de change operator scammed victim of N1.7m in Lagos


A bureau de change operator, Usman Nafada, was Monday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court sitting in Lagos State for allegedly conniving with an accomplice now at large to swindle one Abdullahi Uba of N1.7m.

A police prosecutor, Francisca Job, told the court that the victim had approached Nafada on November 16, at the Obalende area of the state to help him change the sum to dollars.

Nafada, facing a three count charge bordering on stealing was said to have told Uba that he did not have hard currency for the exchange but collected the money from Uba and took it to his fake partner.

Lagos lynching: Senate says Nigerians losing confidence in government


The Senate on Tuesday called on the Nigeria Police to probe into the recently reported mob action in the Orile area of Lagos State in which a young boy was burnt to death for alleged stealing.

The upper chamber of the National Assembly, which specifically asked the police to either confirm or reject the incident, decried that the recent increase in cases of lynching indicated that the people were losing confidence in the government.

Police arrest Soldiers who supply arms to militants


The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP, Fatai Owoseni, on Monday disclosed that the Command arrested two Nigerian soldiers who allegedly supplied arms to militants.

The CP told newsmen the arrest was made after residents of Sixth Avenue in FESTAC Town alerted the police.

While displaying the recovered items before newsmen at the police headquarters, Owoseni said it would have been disastrous if the weapons had been used.

Glo-CAF Award: CAF Announce 5-Man Finalists, Mikel, Musa misses out


The Confederation of African Football have announced their five finalists for the 2016 Glo-CAF African Player of the Year award with no Nigerian on the list.

CAF had initially released a long list of 30 players for the award, which included three Nigerians: Mikel Obi, Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho.

Lagos Police recover caches of arms in Festac town


Police in Lagos state have recovered caches of arms in the Festac area of the state. The state Commissioner for Police, Fatai Owoseni ‎who disclosed this to newsmen during his weekly briefing, said the recovery was made at 6th Avenue and that two AK 47 Riffles, 24 AK 47 fully loaded magazines, one Browning Pistol and magazine were among the ammunition recovered.

He said that other arms recovered include 951 ammunition of 752 mm size and 1,107 ammunition of 6mm size. He added that the Police is currently carrying out a detailed investigation to ascertain those behind the stockpile. ‎

Senate to invite Kachikwu over $115bn China, India deals


The Senate on Tuesday said it will probe into Nigeria’s recent oil deal with India, which worths over $80bn and another with China worth $15bn, with an additional $20bn deal with China’s two biggest petroleum companies.

The upper chamber of the National Assembly has therefore mandated its Committees on Petroleum (Upstream), Petroleum (Downstream), Petroleum (Gas) and Foreign Affairs to summon the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, to explain the details of the deals.

Borno State | Government bans Shi'ites movement in the state


Borno State government has banned members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria aka Shi'ites and other religious bodies from holding any procession in the state. This directive is contained in a statement released Monday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Usman Jidda Shuwa. According to the state government, the move became necessary so that the relative peace and security in the state can be sustained.

Woman who viciously slaps little baby in viral video has been arrested by the Police


The woman in the viral video that was slapping a little baby (Miss It, Click Here)  has been identified and arrested by police. Turns, out she wasn't the nanny but the baby's own, biological mother and she has since been identified and arrested by the Police.

The sickening footage showed the woman repeatedly slapping the crying newborn baby several times.

Police say the mother, identified as Aygul Kozhabaevna was captured and arrested in the Central Asian Republic of Uzbekistan.
