Court Sets Man Free From Death Sentence For This Reason (READ)


The Court of Appeal has upturned a judgment of a Federal High Court in Ogun State, which sentenced one Mr. Akeem Jimoh to death for armed robbery. The appellate court set aside the judgment of the trial court on the ground that Jimoh was not giving a fair hearing before the court reached its conclusion to convict and sentenced him for armed robbery.

The court held that the state cannot be the prosecutor and at the same time be the defense in a criminal trial.

Fake Soldier Busted While Trying To Sell Stolen Phone In Bauchi State (Photos)


33 Artillery Brigade soldiers captured a fake soldier identified as Adam Alexander in Bauchi state. The 22-year-old boy from Maiduguri, Borno State was arrested on Friday, when he was trying to sell a stolen phone Samsung Galaxy Note 5 for N70,000, according to the deputy director of the media, the army, Captain Sunday Akinkunmi. 

Captain Akinkunmi added the young man was arrested in the Wunti market wearing a fake camouflage.

The anti-Trump sentiments show no sign of abating, Today, approximately 100 people stripped semi-naked and marched from Union Square in Manhattan to demonstrate in front of Trump Tower.

The demonstration began at Union Square and made it's way north in protest of Trump's proposed policies. Before the march began, a makeup artist painted blood and fake wounds on the bodies of the protesters.

Veteran Trekker Set To Trek From Nigeria To The UK (Photos)


A 43-year-old trekker, Abubakar Duduwale, yesterday morning began his mission to trek from Nigeria, starting in Kaduna, to the United Kingdom. Abubakar, a Chamba by tribe who hails from Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State, said he wished to raise awareness on terrorism and its effect on lives and properties of the people directly affected.
“I mean to pass the message that terrorism is evil and must be stopped,” he said.
He explained that his journey which started yesterday from Kaduna around 8:00am would lead him to Niger State from where he would move to Abuja and then to the United Kingdom.

Supreme Court Justice, Sylvester Nguta Arraigned For Alleged Fraud (Photos)


The Federal Government on Monday arraigned a Supreme Court justice, Sylvester Nguta, at the Federal High Court, Abuja, for alleged fraud.Mr. Nguta was arraigned before Justice John Tsoho. He is among seven judges arrested by operatives of the State Security Service on October 8, after a midnight raid on their homes.

After pleading not guilty to the 15-count charge, the judge’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi, prayed the court to admit his client on bail.

OMG! Father Of Two Commits Suicide On The Eve Of His Wedding In Lagos


A 28-year-old man has committed suicide in Mushin, Lagos, on the eve of his wedding. Shakiru, popularly called Jarule, was found hanging from the ceiling of his 56, Oduduwa Street, Mushin home.

Relatives told The Nation yesterday that the father of two was being expected in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Saturday for the event. Shakiru was said to have sent a suicide message to his sister, Mariam, which reads: “I’m sorry. Forgive me.”

Mariam had reportedly insisted on his arriving early for the event on noticing his attitude of late. But when the message came in around 6:30pm, she did not read it immediately. When she did, she tried to reach some of his friends, but all to no avail. She then got their elder sister who lives near him to go and find out what was happening. His sister found his room locked from inside indicating that he was at home.

A YouTube star has defended her decision to breastfeed her three-year-old son by posting a video online showing her son suckling on camera. Tasha Maile says she wants the best for her babies and believes that breast really is best when it comes to feeding.

Oh No! Nigerian economy shrinks further to 2.24%


More headache for President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government as Nigerian economy continued to languish in recession in the third quarter as its shrank 2.24 per cent compared to the same three months in 2015.

This was a further deterioration on the 2.06 per cent contraction in the second quarter, which marked the official start to the country’s first recession in more than two decades.

GDP shrank 0.36 per cent in the first three months of the year.

Lagos-Ibadan expressway repairs to end December 25


The engineer supervising section one of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway reconstruction/rehabilitation contract by the Federal Ministry of Power, Works, and Housing, Mr. Kayode Ibrahim, said that the project was 32 per cent completed.

Ibrahim said on Monday that work had been completed on one section of the Long Bridge and on various critical sections.

Section one of the projects is from Ojota in Lagos to Sagamu Interchange and is being handled by Julius Berger.

France | Police foil terror attack, arrest seven


Police have broken up a terror ring  plotting an attack in France after arresting seven individuals in Strasbourg and Marseille, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said on Monday.

The weekend arrests of seven suspects of French, Moroccan, and Afghan origin “enabled us to prevent a long-planned terror attack on our soil,” Cazeneuve told a televised news conference.
