DSS raid Bureau De Change in Anambra


The Department of State Service (DSS) in Anambra on Friday raided some markets in Awka and Onitsha in search of illegal foreign currency hawkers.

A trader at the Eke Market in Awka, under the condition of anonymity,said that some hawkers of foreign currencies were arrested.

He said that the DSS operatives also carted away huge sums of foreign currencies seized from the hawkers.

Emefiele claims that if not for his intervention with those policies, the current recession would have been more critical.


He said this while speaking at the All Civil Society National Economic Summit in Abuja, in a message conveyed by his aide, Emmanuel Ukeje.

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived Akure Airport amidst tight security for the All Progressives Congress, APC, campaign rally for the November 26 governorship election in Ondo State.

He arrived the airport at exactly 10:09 a.m. and was received by Governor Olusegun Mimiko.

President Buhari says PDP ran Nigeria wrecked in 16 years


President Muhammadu Buhari again on Saturday said the Peoples Democratic Party succeeded in running Nigeria aground for the 16 years it produced Presidents for the country.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President spoke at a meeting he had with governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, APC elders in the state, and national officers of the party before departing for the Democracy Park in Akure for the grand finale of the Ondo APC governorship rally.

Buhari said the nation was mismanaged from 1999 to 2015.

Pep Guardiola denies banning players from s3x


Pep Guardiola joked that his Manchester City players wouldn't be playing as well if he had introduced a s*x ban.

The City boss responded to claims from French midfielder Samir Nasri, who said that Guardiola had put a ban on s*x after midnight.


Nasri, who is now on a year-long loan at Sevilla, claimed that the Catalan coach had introduced the curfew at former clubs Barcelona and Bayern Munich because it helped top players like Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski to avoid injuries.

MMM-Nigeria distributes relief materials worth N5 million to IDPs in Abuja


‘MMM-Nigeria’, a community of mutual financial aid and donations, on Saturday donated relief materials worth N5 million to two Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in the Federal Capital Territory.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the gesture was part of the community’s humanitarian week tagged ‘MMM cares’ to mark its one year anniversary.

The Gwoza and Bama IDP Camp located in Durumi area and the New Kuchingoro IDP camp were the two beneficiaries of the relief materials. Bags of rice, beans, garri, as well as cartoons of beverages and noodles, were some of the items donated by the group. The group also donated clothing, drugs, and educational materials for the pupils among them.

Tinubu, South-West governors once again shun APC rally in Ondo


Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, and three of the APC governors in the South-West were again absent at the campaign rally of the party held in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Saturday.

The governors are governors of Lagos, Oyo and Osun States, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, Senator Abiola Ajimobi and Mr. Rauf Aregbosola respectively.

The reason for their absence was not known at the time of this report.

Why Nigerian passport is scarce - Nigeria Immigration explains


The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, Muhammad Babandede, has explained why there is a scarcity of the Nigerian passport, blaming it on contracts for the production of the booklets which were awarded by the previous government when the exchange rate was not as high as it currently is.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Saturday, he stated that while the price of the Nigerian passport has not changed, the cost of bringing in the component has changed owing to the increase in the dollar exchange rate. He pointed out that the Service has made proposals to the government.

Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led national caretaker committee’s faction of the Peoples Democratic Party is calling for the postponement of the November 26 governorship election in Ondo State.

The Court of Appeal Panel led by Justice Ibrahim Salauwa, which was set up to determine the appeals filed by Makarfi and Jegede against the judgment given by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, which INEC relied on to pick Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim, adjourned all proceedings indefinitely.

But National Publicity Secretary of the National Caretaker Committee, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, has said the election should be postponed untill the court determined the true candidate of the party.

A lover’s quarrel has landed a man in trouble with the law after he poured acid on his girlfriend who had threatened to leave him. Stephen Donkor, 21, has been charged with attempted murder of his girlfriend, Mary Oforiwaa, 18.

Donkor’s plea was not taken and he was remanded in police custody by the presiding Judge, Mr James Kojo Botah. Oforiwaa was not present in court because she was still receiving treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Ghana.

The prosecution’s case was that Oforiwaa, a trader and Donkor had been in a relationship for sometime and lived in a wooden kiosk at Darkuman Cable and Wireless.

A driver in Quanzhou, southeast China’s Fujian Province on Wednesday was lucky enough to survive a catastrophic car accident, in which his car was nearly smashed into pieces by a trailer loaded with stones.

While the driver, named Song, was pulling over to the side of the road, a trailer suddenly overturned after applying its emergency brake to avoid a collision with another car on the street.

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, (NSCDC), Ekiti state command, has paraded four suspected fake soldiers including a serving soldier, who all allegedly engage in terrorizing, molesting and extorting citizens of the state.

Arrested robbers’ informant says "they targeted politicians who stole public funds" (Photo)


The police have arrested an eight-man gang of armed robbers said to be terrorizing Abuja, Kogi and Kano states. Among them is Rekia Musa, a divorcee and Accounting graduate of the Kogi State University, who told the police that she had only been an informant for the gang for four months.

The police said the gang had links with a suspect, Zakeria Isiaka arrested recently by the Inspector-General of Police Response Team, along with the Okene-Akure Expressway.

On November 5, Saturday Punch reported Isiaka’s claim that he could have become the Chief Security Officer of Kogi State if the late All Progressives Congress candidate in the governorship election in Kogi State, Abubakar Audu, had not died.

So there is this remarkable Indian family born with 600 digits between them - with each of the 25 members boasting 12 fingers and 12 toes. Krishna Choudhary, who lives in a small village in Gaya, in Bihar, northern India, has six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot - just like his father and siblings. 

But the unusual condition has meant the 50-year-old has found it difficult to arrange his daughter's marriages - because prospective husbands dislike the condition.

A group of beauties from 30 African countries yesterday arrived Calabar Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar to participate in the maiden edition of Miss African Beauty Pageant. With "Climate Change" as the theme, the pageant is being organized by the Cross River State Government to draw global attention to issues of climate change and sundry related environmental issues.

Addressing newsmen shortly on arrival from Morocco, the state Governor, Professor Ben Ayade who was also arriving from the just concluded United Nations conference of parties COP 22 in Marrakech, Morocco, noted that the pageant is a new addition to the state’s vast tourism offerings.
According to the governor, "The pageant is a warm embrace to Africa and more importantly, to create a platform to discuss the fate of Africans."

Kwara State | Prison warders allegedly beat six inmates to death


On Thursday, there was pandemonium at the Oke Kura Prison, Ilorin, Kwara State, after six inmates were reportedly beaten to death by warders. According to reports, 11 other inmates were seriously injured during the fracas which occurred around 2pm.

It was learned that the inmates, who were in the condemned inmates’ cell, had protested the substandard quality of food they were served. They reportedly demanded to see the controller of the prison to address their grievances.
