Angry Mob attacked Bus driver and conductor for allegedly abducting 8 Ogun Schoolchildren (Photo)


Pandemonium rocks Ifo area of Ogun State after a bus driver, Akorede Ogunjobi, and his conductor, Kazeem Adelere, were attacked by an angry mob for allegedly abducting eight pupils of Oyes Faithful College, Ifo.

The suspects would have been lynched, but for the intervention of policemen from the state command who took them into custody.

Acording to Punch, it was learnt that 10 pupils of the school had on Tuesday joined the commercial bus marked, AKD-948-XJ Lagos, at the Techno bus stop after leaving the school. It was learnt that two unidentified men sat beside the driver, while the conductor manned the bus entrance.

Tragedy hit an Enugu based family Wednesday as a couple died after a brawl. The couple identified as Francis Okonkwo Uzo and Ozoemena Uzo were said to be residents of Nchatancha, Emene and outskirt of Enugu.

A police bulletin issued by police spokesman Ebere Amaraizu said the couple was “reported to have been living in full life until the tragic incident in which Mrs ozoemena was allegedly murdered gruesomely by the husband in the afternoon.

The Methodist priest that was kidnapped on his farm at Kufi area, along Olounda-Aba road, Ibadan on Thursday has regained freedom after five days in the kidnappers’ den.

Diocesan Bishop of the Methodist Cathedral, Ibadan, Rt. Rev. Amos Ajiboye, said Rev. Dr. Biodun Ogunbekun was released on Tuesday but he did not give details of how he was released or how the kidnappers contacted the church and the priest family.

Edo State | Lawmakers approve N200m houses for ex-governors


The Edo House of Assembly on Wednesday approved the construction of houses for former governors and their deputies which should not be more than N200m and N100m, respectively, in any location of their choice.

The approval was sequel to the consideration of a bill for a law to amend the existing legislation on the Pension Rights of Governors and their Deputies in the state.

Oyegun: President Buhari is a democrat, not interested in controlling National Assembly


The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has described President Muhammadu Buhari as a democrat, who does not subscribe to the idea of “controlling” the National Assembly as was the case when the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was in charge of the country.

He made this known in a statement issued on Wednesday in reaction to what he called attempts by the PDP to give a political coloration and other negative interpretations to Senate’s decision on Tuesday to reject the list of non-career ambassadorial nominees forwarded to it by the President.

A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, says he was protected by Boko Haram suspects during his four-day detention at Kuje Prison.

Fani-Kayode said this in an article titled, ‘Head bloodied but not bowed and the ascension of President-Elect Donald Trump’ on Wednesday.

The ex-minister said he spent over two weeks in the underground cell of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission without being interrogated.

Presidency says Niger Delta militants frustrating government’s dialogue option


The Presidency has regretted that despite the Federal Government’s good faith in pursuing dialogue with the Niger Delta stakeholders, the militant groups have not reciprocated the government’s good gesture in finding a peaceful and lasting solution to the crisis in the oil-producing areas of Nigeria.

According to a statement on Wednesday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said this in an interview he granted a Kano-based radio station, Express Radio.

EFCC re-arraigns Rickey Tarfa


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Wednesday re-arraigned Rickey Tarfa (SAN), on an amended charge of offering of gratification to public officers.

The commission had on March 10, brought Tarfa before an Igbosere High Court, Lagos, on a 27-count of willful obstruction of its authorised officers, refusal to declare assets, making false information and offering gratification to a public official.

Former NSA, Dasuki’s corruption trial adjourned to December


The trial of Sambo Dasuki and others was adjourned till December 7 for further hearing following a concession agreed upon by all the counsel concerned.

The trial which came up at an FCT High Court, Maitama, before Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf could not go on.

However, all counsel had a chambers meeting with the judge and agreed on the date. All the defendants were in court except Mr. Dasuki.

Atiku Abubakar: "Boko Haram Can’t Exist If I Were President"


Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Turaki Adamawa has declared that if he were the president of Nigeria, the Boko Haram insurgency would not take place in the country.

Abubakar made this known in Yola yesterday while speaking at the distribution of relief materials to over 50,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at American University of Nigeria (AUN) drawn from all over IDPs camps across the the state to commemorate his 70th birthday celebrations.

IDPs fight over relief materials in Abuja Camp


Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in a camp in Abuja on Tuesday disrupted the distribution of relief materials by the Red Cross Society. During the exercise, a crowd of impatient IDPs grabbed materials being distributed by aid workers which led to a free for all.

The acting Secretary General of the Red Cross, Mr Andronicus Adeyemo, said that the relief materials were targeted at addressing the rising cases of malaria in the camp.

Maritime University Bill Pass Second Reading Despite Rotimi Amaechi's complaint

The bill sponsored by James Manager (PDP-Delta) was unanimously supported by the senators after the mover’s lead debate, making case for the establishment of the university.

Willem Oosthuizen and Theo Martins Jackson have been charged with assault and kidnapping following a video showing the two men forcing a black man into a coffin while threatening to put a snake and petrol inside the casket as well.
"They were accusing me of trespassing. They beat me up and forced me into the coffin," said Victor Rethabile, the victim. The two white men were remanded to prison until the postponed case date on January 25.
