UN says resurgence of Boko Haram displacing more Nigerians


The United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has raised the alarm that more Nigerians may be displaced in the coming days as a result of the resurgence of Boko Haram in the country’s north-east region.

It should be noted that Boko Haram has recently gained military strength in an uncanny manner leading to the death of an influential military commander, Lt Colonel Muhammad Abu Ali and others.

Abia State | Community threatens retaliation over Fulani herdsmen attack


Serious tension is now brewing at the Ndi Okereke Abam Community in Ovukwu area of Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State, following reports that leaders of the community had resolved to avenge last week’s attack by Fulani herdsmen resulting in the wounding of seven persons by the alleged invaders.

The victims said that they were reportedly attacked by the Fulani herdsmen, who used AK 47 rifles, bows and arrows as well as bows and cutlasses among other dangerous weapons.

Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, who has been in detention for the past 24 days, yesterday, regained his freedom.

Fani-Kayode, who was the Director of Media and Publicity in the campaign team of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, was released after he perfected the bail conditions handed to him by the Abuja Federal High Court. He is answering to a five-count charge preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Governor El-Rufai Says Former VP Atiku Haunted By His Corruption Demons


A new firefight has broken out in the All Progressives Congress (APC), as Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai late on Tuesday challenged former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, to clean up his corruption credentials. 

The governor in response to claims made by Alhaji Atiku in an interview with Zero Tolerance, reproduced by Premium Times.

The governor asserted that contrary to the assertions of Atiku who said he attempted to offer him Transcorp shares during the presidency of Olusegun Obasanjo, he had nothing to do with the incorporation of Transcorp.

Top Nollywood filmmaker and Director, Ansa Bassey Kpokpogri has passed away. The Calabar-born mother of one reportedly died of pains from peptic ulcer.

Filmmaker Uduak Isong Oguamanam, younger sister of Emem Isong, took to her Facebook to write a glowing tribute to the University of Calabar graduate, whom she described as a friend, partner and colleague;

Dasuki allegedly declines Federal Government offer to attend father's burial


Former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki who is currently under detention reportedly rejected the offer made by the federal government to attend his father's burial.

Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazaum disclosed this to newsmen in Sokoto today after Dasuki's father's burial, the 18th sultan, who died on Monday night. He said the federal government first offered to allow him to visit his sick father at the hospital some days ago but he declined, saying he preferred to remain in detention and pray for him.

Shooting at Oklahoma: Police investigating report at City airport


Police officials confirmed they are investigating a shooting at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City.

Officials said a man was lying in front of a ticket counter Tuesday, saying he was shot. Airport officials said a person was injured and that officers are searching for a shooter. 

The investigation is affecting flights.

Customs seize 1600 bags of smuggled rice in Lagos


Officials of the Nigeria Customs on Sunday raided Itekun waterside at Ishasi, a suburb near Iba Local Government Area of Lagos, where they seized 1600 bags of rice brought into the country illegally by smugglers.

Taupyen Selchang, spokesman for Seme Customs Command told Premium Times that the raid was carried out by a combined team of officials.

Niger Delta Avengers blow up Nembe pipeline in Bayelsa


Militant group, Niger Delta Avengers have claimed an attack on Nembe Creek Trunk Line pipeline in Bayelsa State. The pipeline is operated by Agip, Oando and Shell.

The militant group said on Tuesday that the attack was carried out as a response to ‘Operation Sharkbite’ recently launched by the Nigerian Navy in the Niger Delta to curb piracy and enhance the security of critical oil facilities in the region.

Cultists surrender arms, ammunition in Rivers State


Cultists on Tuesday surrendered 911 arms, including AK-47 rifles and pump action guns, to the Rivers State Government in the just-concluded Amnesty Programme declared by the state.

This is as the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, also placed a ban on vigilante groups in the state after receiving a report that some vigilante members belonged to various cult groups.

The cultists also laid down 7,369 ammunition through the Chairman of the State Amnesty Committee, Mr. Kenneth Chinda, at the presentation of the committee’s report at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

Nigerian award-winning photojournalist who works as an editor with Naij.com,  Adeyinka Adeparusi, earlier reported missing, has been confirmed dead in an accident.

It was confirmed that he was involved in a motorcycle accident in Abuja and died on the spot.

Frances Hall, 53, was jailed for two years in September after being convicted of killing her estranged husband Bill Hall Junior in San Antonio, Texas.

Her husband's younger lover, Bonnie Contreras, now 34, is accused of taunting Hall with the messages but insists she is 'not a bad person'.
