SHOCKING! We don’t want excuses, keep our Christmas gifts – Robbers write community


Hundreds of residents of Anglican Road, Ilupewo community, Ado- Odo-Otta Local Government Area, a boundary community between Lagos and Ogun states, have deserted their homes after receiving a letter from suspected armed robbers.

It was learnt that the residents woke up to discover several of such letters pasted to their doorposts. The letter insinuated that the robbers were coming for the operation because of Christmas and New Year festivities.

The most shocking aspect of the letter was the phone numbers that accompanied it. The phone numbers – 0702288949, 080449930 – are, however, incomplete. They stressed that they didn’t want excuses from residents over non-availability of money at home.

President Muhammadu Buhari swore in Walter Onnoghen, a supreme court judge, as the chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), at a brief ceremony in the presidential villa on Thursday.

The National Judicial Commission (NJC) had recommended Onnoghen, who is the most senior member of the apex bench, for the position‎.

Onnoghen was born on December 22, 1950 at Okurike town, Biase local government area of Cross Rivers state.

Buhari and Saraki meet over $29.9 billion loan


President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday met for the second time within one week with the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

They met first last Friday after the Senate on Tuesday rejected Buhari’s approval request for $29.9 billion loan.

The Senate, the following Thursday also rejected Buhari’s request for approval for the 2017 to 2019 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF).

President Muhammadu Buhari during his two-day visit to Edo State met an elderly lady, Lady Egbon Grace, in Benin city, who gave him something unique, a goat.

The Lady, according to a source who does not want his name in prints, is a supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) registered in Ward 7, Oredo Local Government Area of Edo.

The source said that the Lady had longed to meet the President to show her admiration for “his selfless lifestyle and passion to liberate the masses”.

Former Chief Security Officer, CSO, to late military Head of State, General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha (retd) yesterday said he was not the killer of late Kudirat Abiola. 

He made the denial at the sixth edition of Dr. Fredrick Fasehun annual public lecture in Akure. The lecture had the theme: “The Nigerian quest for social justice and credible leadership: the travail of a nation on trial.” Al-Mustapha declared that the insinuation that he killed Kudirat was a ploy by some people in government to soil his image in other to cover up for their atrocities after Abacha died. He pointedly denied that he assassinated the wife of the 1993 Presidential election winner, Chief MKO Abiola. 

FRSC arrests 2,600 motorists over non-installation of speed limiting device


The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, yesterday said it had arrested over 2,600 motorists for not installing the speed limiting device in their vehicles. Commander of Rivers State Sector Command, Andrew Kumakpayi, spoke in Port Harcourt during a health programme organized for tanker drivers in conjunction with Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, and Medical Women’s Association of Nigerian, MWAN.

Official: Nigeria’s population now 182 million


The Director-General of National Population Commission, NPC, Ghaji Bello, has said Nigeria’s population was currently 182 million, with more than half its people under 30 years of age. According to him, this puts a severe strain on a nation, with its slowing economy and declining revenue to provide enough schools and health facilities.

Bello, who disclosed this in Abuja, said the latest estimate was based on the population of 140 million recorded in the last census a decade ago, using an annual growth rate of 3.5 percent weighed against other variables such as rising life expectancy and a declining infant mortality rate.

EFCC Says recovered loots are in FG’s consolidated account


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says all looted funds recovered by it are paid into the consolidated revenue account of the Federal Government.

The commission made this known on its Twitter handle, @officialefcc in response to a question from one of its followers.

In a tweet to the commission through the handle @asantoo11a, the follower had asked; “When are we sharing our recovered looted money’’.

Buhari has devastated Nigeria's Economy – PDP


The Peoples Democratic Party has said Nigerians are suffering under the President Muhammadu Buhari-led led Federal Government.

The Vice-Chairman of the party in the North-East, Emmanuel Njiwah, stated this in Yola, on Wednesday, stressing that Nigeria had become a nation of sorrow under the All Progressives Congress.

Njiwah belongs to the Senator Modu Sheriff faction of the party, which is locked in a bitter leadership struggle with the Senator Ahmed Makarfi faction.

Republican Donald Trump’s surprise U.S. presidential election win, sparked spontaneous protests across many cities on Wednesday, with marchers  blasting his stance on immigrants, Muslims and other groups.

In New York, thousands of protesters filled streets in midtown Manhattan as they made their way to Trump Tower, Trump’s gilded home on Fifth Avenue. Hundreds of others gathered at a Manhattan park and shouted “Not my president.”

FG says US-based Nigerians can return if Trump makes life difficult


Audu Ogbeh, minister of agriculture, says Nigeria will welcome its citizens in the US home if Donald Trump, president-elect, makes life uncomfortable for them over there.

Speaking with state house correspondents after the federal executive council (FEC) meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, Ogbeh expressed shock at Trump’s victory.

Ogbeh said Nigeria might re-tool its foreign policy if Trump turned out to be a sectional president.

Mohammed Babangida's ex-wife Rahma cries out over thugs harassing her


According to reports from Linda Ikeji, on Sept 7th, 2016, Mohammed Babangida was battling his ex-wife Rahama for custody of their two eldest kids. From court documents exclusively obtained, Mohammad initiated the custody battle by taking his ex-wife to a Sharia Court in Minna, Niger.

Accusations have however been going back and forth between both parties, with people close to Rahma alleging that Mohammed has been harassing and threatening her, trying to seize custody of their kids. She has now re-confirmed this in a post shared via Instagram.
