Abia Police arrests police sergeant leading a robbery gang


A police sergeant Matthew Elah, of the Rivers State command, has been arrested over his alleged involvement in a robbery operation in Abia state.

The sergeant, attached to the Department of Operations in Port Harcourt, was arrested in Abia State, following a tip-off after a robbery incident at Akwette community in Ukwa East Local Government Area.

Lagos State | Lawyer sues Gov Ambode over council appointments


Aggrieved over the appointment of sole administrators for the 57 local government areas and local council development areas in Lagos state, a Lagos-based lawyer, Tope Alabi has sued Governor Akinwunmi Ambode at the Federal High Court, Lagos.

He is seeking for a declaration that the appointments violated the 1999 Constitution and are therefore illegal, null and void.

11-year-old cancer survivor girl who couldn't bear the relentless bullies from friends has killed herself.

At 3 years old, Bethany Thompson was diagnosed with a brain tumor and battled through radiation treatments. Though cancer-free since 2008, the treatment caused nerve damage that changed Bethany’s smile. That, and her curly hair led to bullying said Bethany’s mother, Wendy Feucht.

Feucht said after a particularly tough Wednesday with bullies, Bethany told her best friend she couldn’t take it anymore and be going to take her own life.

6 Dead After Buses Collide in Baltimore


At least six persons have been confirmed dead as a school bus and a commuter bus crashed in Baltimore.

Baltimore Police tweeted that no children were aboard the school bus that crashed early Tuesday morning.

Baltimore public schools spokeswoman Anne Fullerton says no students are among the fatalities.

It was pandemonium at Ekpri Ikot Ene community, Akpabuyo Local Government Area, Cross River State, on Monday, when an enraged 23-year-old son butchered his father, who is the village head, HRH Francis Ekpo Ene, and dumped his remains inside the family’s pit toilet for persistently accusing him of stealing his money without facts.

According to the report by Vanguard, the killer-son (Francis Ekpo Jnr.) supposedly acted under a powerful and diabolical influence, as he was not known to be a violent person before the sacrilegious incident.

CBN issues another warning against wonder Banks, MMM


The Central Bank of Nigeria is cautioning Nigerians against patronizing wonder banks.

The head, Consumer Protection Department of the CBN, Mrs Kadija Kassim gave the warning at a forum in Niger state to mark the World Savings Day.

According to her, the activities of these wonder banks are not regulated by the CBN.

Skye Bank sacks 50 more workers


About four months after it disengaged about 200 of its workers, Skye Bank Plc has retrenched about 50 members of staff, including those in outsourced and auxiliary functions.

Although the number of the affected non-core employees could not be ascertained since they were not direct workers of the bank, it was gathered that the reasons for their exit ranged from non-performance, disciplinary issues as well as rightsizing by the lender.

It was further gathered that most of the affected personnel were in outsourced functions like tellers, drivers and internal security guards.

A Lagos-based lawyer and activist, Chief Malcom Omirhobo, Monday asked a Federal High Court in Lagos, to declare as unlawful the extension of public holidays beyond the days set out for them.

In the new suit numbered FHC/L/CS/1450/16, the defendants are: The Attorney General of the Federation and the Minister of Interior.

The plaintiff’s suit is brought pursuant to the provisions of Order three, Rules six, seven and eight of the Federal High Court Civil Procedure rules of 2009.

Group drags Buhari to court, insists Ameachi, Onu must be investigated and sacked over Bribery Allegation


A Non-Governmental Organisation known as Incorporated Trustees of Kingdom Human Rights Foundation International yesterday filed a suit at the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, asking the court to issue an order of mandamus compelling President Buhari to immediately sack Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi and his counterpart in Science & Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu.

According to the group, the sack of both Ministers is important after two Supreme Court judges, Inyang Okoro and Nwali Sylvester Ngwuta, who are currently being investigated for corruption, accused both men of offering them bribe some years ago, Vanguard reports.

The Faggae Outpost of the Kano State Hisbah Board (Sharia Police) on Monday, said it has began the prosecution of 11 women who were found drinking, smoking and romancing with men who are not their husbands, vices which are contrary to the Sharia legal system.
