In 8 months EFCC has arrested 80 Fraudsters, Recovered N57m In Southwest


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibadan Zonal Office, on Thursday said it recovered over N57m from suspected fraudsters in the South-West between February and September 2016.

The Zonal Head, EFCC, Mr. Akaninyene Ezima, added that apart from the amount, 80 suspects were arrested during the period, while six vehicles were seized. He added that eight of the suspects have been charged to courts.

Couple pleads guilty to enslaving Nigerian nanny for two years in Texas


The Nigerian couple in Katy, Texas charged in relation to enslaving their Nigerian nanny from Sept. 29, 2013, through Oct. 10, 2015, pleaded guilty on Wednesday, October 20th in the Houston Federal courtroom. 

U.S. Attorney Kenneth Magidson said Sandra Nsobundu, 49, pleaded guilty to unlawful conduct with respect to documents in furtherance of forced labor, while her husband, Chudy Nsobundu, 57, pleaded guilty to visa fraud.

For two years, the couple, who are naturalized U.S. citizens, forced the woman to work without her passport and visa. the Nsobundus also knowingly enforced a scheme to cause the woman to believe that failure to perform the labor services would result in serious harm. They also threatened abuse of law and the legal process.

Judge John McKeon, who sentenced a father who repeatedly raped his 12-year-old daughter to jail for only 60 days is catching all kinds of heat for his terrible judgment.

As at Thursday morning, there was about 38,000 signed petition on a Change.org petition calling for his impeachment for the 60-day sentence he gave the Glasgow, Montana father who pleaded guilty to repeatedly raping his daughter.

German parliament says African leaders steal $50bn annually


Andres Lammei, a lawmaker and chairman, Working Group on Africa of the CDU/CSU in the Federal Parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany, has said that the legislative arm in Nigeria and other African countries are not duly respected by the executive.

Lammei made this statement yesterday while receiving in audience some select state parliamentarians and parliamentary staff from Nigeria at the Bundestag, Parliamentary Building in Berlin, Germany. He noted his observation and concerns over the ‘$50 billion’ that often disappeared from the treasury of governments across Africa annually, saying that that would always impede development in the county.

Kidnappers abduct Government official in Sokoto State


Engr. Muhammad Lawal Mai Doki, Chairman of Zakat and Endowment Committee in Sokoto was kidnapped yesterday, October 19th, around 9pm within the Sokoto metropolis.

Nigeria Customs Service Sacks 29 Senior Officers


Twenty-nine (29) Senior officers of the Nigeria Customs Service have been dismissed for various acts of gross misconduct. In a statement issued by Customs PRO, Wale Adeniyi, it was revealed that the dismissed officers were among forty-four (44) senior officers who were punished for actions capable of compromising national economy and security.
"Ten (10) other officers were retired from Service, while the appointment of one (1) was terminated. Four (4) officers were given written warnings to be of better conduct while another 4 officers who were investigated and tried for some offences were exonerated.

Operators confirm that 47 airlines have folded up in Nigeria


Airline operators on Wednesday blamed the dwindling fortunes of some airlines in the country on the harsh operating environment.

They told the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation that 47 airlines had folded up in the last 30 years owing to the unfavourable operating environment.

The Secretary General, Airline Operators of Nigeria, Capt. Mohammed Joji, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, attributed the development to “policy formulation, policy deviation and policy contradictions on the part of the executive arm of government.”
