EFCC witness saves AIT Boss Raymond Dokpesi over Arms Deal Trial


An EFCC witness at the trial of AIT Chairman Raymond Dokpesi has stated that the payments made by Sambo Dasuki, the ex-National Security Adviser to the AIT boss were legitimate.

Aliyu Mohammed a staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria and manager of its payment section told a Federal High Court in Abuja that payments made to the defendant were legitimate by the Central Bank of Nigeria’s standard.

The said disbursements made to Daar communications were in conformity with the due process for such by his office, he said, adding that they were for the purposes of media campaign by Daar communications.

Drama ensued on Wednesday during the screening of one of the arrowheads for the campaign that the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria be scrapped.

Alhaji Aliyu Saidu Abubakar, who is a nominee representing the North East in the proposed Governing Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) stated that the upper legislative chamber was a waste of fund and government resources.

The nominee had appeared before the Senator Gilbert Nnaji-led committee on Communications for the ongoing screening of NCC board nominees.

Operators confirm that 47 airlines have folded up in Nigeria


Airline operators on Wednesday blamed the dwindling fortunes of some airlines in the country on the harsh operating environment.

They told the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation that 47 airlines had folded up in the last 30 years owing to the unfavourable operating environment.

The Secretary General, Airline Operators of Nigeria, Capt. Mohammed Joji, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, attributed the development to “policy formulation, policy deviation and policy contradictions on the part of the executive arm of government.”

FIFA Ranking: Nigeria rise to 60th in October


Nigeria rose up four spots to 60th place in the Fifa rankings released on Thursday, though are eleventh-ranked African side.

The Super Eagles leap came as a result of their 2-1 victory against Zambia in the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier played in Ndola.

One the continent, they are ranked behind reigning African champions, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia, Ghana, Egypt, Congo DR, Congo, Mail and Cameroon.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested two serving commissioners in Enugu State in connection with investigations into the $115m (N23bn) allegedly disbursed by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, during the build-up to the 2015 presidential election.

The Commissioner for Water Resources, Chief Charles Egumgbe, was the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party campaign office in the state during the 2015 polls, while Commissioner for Tourism, Rita Mba, was the secretary.

Emmanuel Emenike Escape Plane Crash with Fenerbahce Teammate


A plane carrying former Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Emenike and his Fenerbahce teammates to Manchester on Tuesday ahead of Thursday’s Europa League game against Manchester United was forced to make an emergency landing because a bird shattered the windscreen.

Kaduna State | Government denies placing ban on Shi’ites


The Kaduna State Government said on Wednesday that it had not placed any ban on Shi’a Muslims in the state.

Mr Samuel Aruwan, the government spokesman, said at a news briefing in Kaduna, that what the government did, was to declare the operation of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria illegal, as the group was not registered.
“Islamic Movement in Nigeria was never a registered organisation and it refuses to conduct itself with full adherence to the laws of Kaduna State.”
